Location description from owner

The Region of Murcia region

Murcia is one of the regions with the greatest number of sunny days per year, an average temperature of 21 C, and 250 km of shoreline bordering two seas: the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean. It has an environment noted for it's contrasts, with high mountain natural parks, southern basins with semi-desert landscapes, and wonderful beaches such as those of La Manga, Mazarrn and Calblanque.

Murcias coastline is rich and diverse, with stretches of rough water and coves with serene beaches. Dunes, salt flats, wetlands... The Murcia Region coastline contains a considerable number of areas of unquestionable environmental interest, with many of them being Natural Protected Areas. Places where you can still find native flora and fauna species such as the Phoenician Juniper, a native tree variety, and the "Fartet", a minute, unique and very unusual fish.

The diversity of landscapes, a fantastic climate and its cultural and historical richness make Murcia the perfect region to visit and enjoy the outdoors, practice water sports in the Mar Menor, explore its mountains, go hiking, and, of course, play golf.

Festivities

Six National Tourism Interest festivals, and 31 Regional Tourism Interest festivals demonstrate the scope of the regions lengthy festive calendar, which is of great interest to residents and visitors alike.

It all begins on the last Sunday in January, with the Cuadrillas de Barranda Festiva, whilst February is Carnival month, with famous dance troupe parades, and costume contests in communities such as guilas, Cartagena, and Cabezo de Torres.

Holy Week has wonderful processions in Cartagena, Lorca, Jumilla and Murcia. It is also the season of the Tamborradas (processions with drummers) that accompany the Mula and Moratalla celebrations, and the Murcia Spring Festivals. A highlight of the latter festivals is Bando de la Huerta Day, on which thousands of Murcians, sporting their traditional attire, accompany the cavalcade through the city. Another Holy Week festival is the Entierro de la Sardina, which is Murcias other major festival together with Bando. This is a pagan festival of mythology and fire, and a must-see magical night in the city, where a striking parade of dance troupes, brass bands, entertainment groups, dragons, giants, huge-headed figures, and floats accompany an enormous sardine, which is ultimately burned in a purifying fire under a spring sky lit up by the dazzling fireworks.

The month of May features Moor and Christian parades in many of the regions towns, such as Abanilla and Alhama, and the massively attended performances of the Santsima y Vera Cruz Festival in Caravaca.

The summer sees an abundance of Virgen del Carmen seafarers processions in many of the coastal communities. It is also the season of cultural festivals such as those of San Javier, La Unin, Los Alczares, Lorca, and the Wine Harvest Festival in Jumilla.

In autumn Murcia prepares for the September Fair, with the Moors and Christians parades, and the Mediterranean Folklore Festival. Concurrently, legions of Romans and Carthaginians face each other on the streets of Cartagena, recalling ancient historical times. Over 10 days, key moments in the history of Spain are staged in outdoor performances: a motion picture production of the citys refounding; the wedding of Hannibal and Princess Himilce amid mystical dances and divine invocations; the power of Rome represented by the seaborne arrival of its Legions and Circus, a live performance with four-in-hand races; Hannibals departure to Italy with his grand army; and the final battle staged outdoors at twilight.

September is also the month of the religious pilgrimages called Romeras, featuring Virgen de la Fuensanta, the patron of Murcia, and Virgen de la Esperanza in Calasparra.

At the end of autumn, the prominence of the festivals moves to the north of the region, with the Fiestas de la Pursima in Yecla, amid the thunder of the harquebuses. The Cuadrillas de nimas (troupes) and the Campanas de Auroras ("Dawn Bells" music group) announce the beginning of Christmas by singing their carols along orchard roads. Also famous in the Region during these dates are the nativity scene contests, and the big parades on Epiphany Day.

“Fantastic holiday, great accommodation, recommended highly!”

Reviewed 29 May 2013

I stayed at the atico pea espada in may 2013 for a fantastic week in the sun. The flat is situated in the popular la torre golf resort which has everything you could need for a week away. The flat was spacious and modern. I would recommend the holiday highly and would definitely return.

“Lovely relaxing holiday”

Reviewed 18 Aug 2012

Very friendly contact with Jo, the owner, made booking very simple, with all our queries answered promptly. 20 minute transfer from Murcia airport made the journey very easy although directions provided need updating as c3319 does not appear now on the road sign off the roundabout and caused initial confusion as to the correct road. Clear instructions made finding the apartment itself easy. Underground parking would have been a bonus, keeping the car cool, however we did not struggle to find a parking spot at any time. The apartment was perfect for myself , husband and teenage son. Very well equipped and very welcome air conditioning in each bedroom and the living area. The roof terrace was ideal for sun bathing or relaxing in the shade as both sun and shade were provided all day. Despite holidaying in August the resort was lovely and quiet with very few guests appearing before 9.30am. The apartment was ideally located over looking a pool and within walking distance of the restaurants (parking was tricky in the evening around the restaurants). Good, well stocked supermarket also within walking distance, unless you are stocking up on bottled water - best to take the car for this. Bar meals and sandwiches at the golf clubhouse were ideal for lunch/early evening. Would definately visit again.

“Fabulous!”

Reviewed 31 Jul 2012

We have just returned after a 2 week stay in this apartment and had a wonderful time. The apartment itself is really well equipped and is like a home away from home. Our favorite aspect of it was the fact that it had a great sized balcony that had the sun on it all day long. We were able to just lie there and rotate round to follow the sun! The pool area is lovely and is usually very quiet - we loved the fact that it didn't have sun beds round it as it meant that you didn't have to get up at some silly hour and put your towel on a bed. Instead we took our towels down and lay on the grass. The owner does allow the sunbeds from the balcony to be brought down but we didn't mind lying on the grass. Security in La Torre is wonderful with security guards visiting the pool area at least 3 times a day to make sure everyone belonged there and had their blue bands on. (You also have to pass through security to enter or exit the resort). The balcony also has a table and chairs on it - there is nothing nicer than getting up to a lovely sunny morning and sitting eating breakfast outside. We usually had breakfast around 9.30am and there was total silence outside. So lovely. The golf resort has a town centre with 3 restaurants - a tapas, an italian and one that does a bit of everything. Our favourite was the italian - but be warned - it seems like everyone else's favourite too so it is advisable to prebook a table. The onsite supermarket is very reasonably priced and stocks nearly everything you'd need. The supermarket is probably a 15 minute dander from this apartment or a few minutes in the car. If you feel like a change of scenery the next Polaris World golf resort has a lovely restaurant in it too. El Valle Golf resort is about 10 minutes up the c3319 towards Murcia - we went there 3 times. The food was good as well as well priced. We also went down into Los Alcazares a few times where there is a much larger selection of restaurants. The owners of this apartment were very co-operative and very willing to answer any questions that we had - this makes the whole holiday run much smoother from booking to leaving! All in all this apartment is a fantastic place to stay if you want a peaceful, lazy holiday! Would LOVE to be there right now!!!

“Relaxing stay in a home away from home.”

Reviewed 8 Jul 2012

Enjoyable stay in a lovely well furnished apartment. The wonderful open balcony was perfect for soaking up the sun and for meals alfresco. A perfect distance from Murica airport made getting here very easy. Everything you need is close by with a supermarket and restraunts in walking distance. The apartment itself was lovely and homely with all the amenities that one could want, tv, air conditioning, internet, washing machine and dishwasher. Perfect for a stress-free relaxing holiday that feels like a home away from home.
