SPACIOUS TRADITIONAL VILLA, La Manga Vacations

This private, Spanish-style villa is situated in a quiet road at km 6 of La Manga Strip, only a minute or so walk from a clean, sandy beach on the Mar Menor, when the sea is shallow and hence ideal and safe for small children.

The whole property is well-maintained and tastefully decorated and the rooms unusually spacious, airy and full of character.

Also on the ground floor, accessed from the hall, are a double bedroom with floor fan and en-suite bathroom; a pool room with washing machine, microwave, sink, fridge and small hob plus its own bathroom, opening onto the pool and one of the patios; plus a further, smaller bedroom, equipped with 2 bunk beds and floor fan.

On the first floor are two huge double bedrooms, both with aircon. The master bedroom has two large single beds together and en-suite bathroom. There are beautiful views of the Mar Menor from the windows and from the upstairs patio (provided with patio furniture), which is accessed from this bedroom.

The second bedroom also has two single beds together, sea views and access to the patio. Next to this bedroom is spacious separate bathroom and toilet.

The inside of this villa already has a lot to offer guests, but the outdoor areas ready enhance the pleasure of staying in this villa.

The 8 x 4m, well-maintained pool is at the side and is provided with sun loungers. There is also a drive-way for off-street parking for two cars. The rest of the villa is surrounded by mature, well-kept gardens. There are various patio and seating/eating areas, offering shade and privacy as well as plenty of sunshine.

There is also a large roof-top sun terrace with great views of the nearby Mar Menor.

This comfortable villa offers every guest the opportunity to relax, enjoy the pool or beach and of course the sunshine!
The Costa Calida nestles at the bottom of the Costa Blanca, and is one of the least known and most unspoilt regions of Spain, guaranteed to give you a taste of "real Spain".

With over 315 days of sunshine every year it is little wonder that the Costa Calida means "warm coast" and the unspoilt inland waters of the Mar Menor, the largest natural lagoon in Europe, offer safe and warm water bathing all year round.

The area is best know for the La Manga Club, renowned for its three championship golf courses, LTA Tennis Centre Training Ground and being the training ground of visiting football teams from Spain, the UK and the other parts of Europe. There are over 22 tennis courts with the option of booking tennis coaching on an hourly or weekly basis. Short tennis, squash courts, bowling green and pitch and putt to name but a few of the sporting attractions. There is a fabulous 5 Star hotel and wonderful Spa with a lovely large indoor pool as well as a number of bars and restaurants.

La Manga Strip ... the "sleeve" of land that runs from Cabo de Palos in the south to San Pedro in the north is 18km long and encloses the warm tranquil waters of the Mar Menor to the west and has the livelier colder Mediterranean to the east. The Strip is up to 1km wide in parts and in others is is merely 100m allowing only for the road to run through with a beach on either side. There are shopping centres, restaurants and bars set in plazas or squares.

Water sports ... there could not be a better or safer place to learn to sail, jet ski or kite surf. The area has a number of sailing schools with a wide range of boats and dinghies on which to learn to sail or to brush up your sailing skills. Diving is a popular sport and there are a number of different diving schools offering anything from the beginners course to night dives for the more experienced diver.

La Manga Strip

La Manga Strip is a town in its own right, albeit an long thin one! There are shopping centres, restaurants and bars set in plazas or squares. A bit further along 'the strip' you'll find a host of restaurants and bars to choose from and soak up the buzzing night-life of Plaza Bohemia and Zoco.

Along the strip you will find, small supermarkets, bread shops, fruit shops, and a number of bars and restaurants as well as a local cinema.

At km 13 is Tomas Maestre marina with over one thousand moorings and houses some stunning boats and yachts that most of us can only dream of. The restaurants are excellent both for quality and price and the atmosphere is wonderful. There are pleasure cruise boats which will take you to the Islands of the Mar Menor or just for an hours cruise around the Mar Menor and even a foot ferry from the Tomas Maestre to Santiago de la Ribera.

Boat trips are sometimes available from the marina near the villa.

Peke Park near Monte Blanco km3 is an ideal place to take the children. It caters for the younger child with a number of inflated bouncy castle style slides, and several rides but no roller coasters. There are further restaurants and a supermarket next to Peke Park.

The Strip is traditionally very very Spanish, which means that families dine out on the pavement cafes until all hours of the night, the shops are open selling inflatables and other essential items until 11pm! There are hundreds of fantastic shoe shops and "factory second shoe shops".

The beaches on the Med are long and sandy with beach bars every few hundred yards. The Mar Menor is warm and shallow with tranquil waters and ideal for children and "non" swimmers as the high salt and mineral concentrations of the waters give additional buoyancy. You need to walk about 100yards before the water comes up to your waist.

There is a market everyday somewhere near by. Cabo de Palos has a large Sunday Market, one of the largest in the area. Here you can buy leather goods, clothes, olives and pistachio nuts and fantastic fresh fruit and vegetables. Bring and empty suitcase to get it all home with you. After you have exhausted yourselves and your wallet relax and enjoy a lunch on the harbour side. As you would imagine fish is the speciality, sardines and paella are especially good sitting out and watching the traffic (boats only) coming in and out of the harbour.

Treat yourself to a day on the pleasure yacht Sailaway for a truly amazing day out. This lovely old wooden hulled but fully modernised yacht is moored in Cabo de Palos harbour and does day trips in the Med with lunch included.

The vibrant town of Cartagena is 20 minutes away. There are a number of other tourist attractions which are really fun to do. I would recommend the open top bus ride and the trip around the harbour on the catamaran. If you do not want to have a history or culture lesson then the shops are fantastic, and it is a great place to buy clothes and especially shoes and handbags. Then take a long and lovely lunch over looking the harbour in one of the many cafes and restaurants on the front.

A short drive is the village of Los Nietos which has its own market on a Sunday morning, ideal for buying your weeks worth of fruit and veg ... limited selection of clothes and some nice leather goods. The market is held next to the middle train station. A much larger Sunday market is held each week at Cabo de Palos, a fishing village on the Mediterranean. Los Nietos has 3 train stations, amazing for a village so small, there are two trains an hour to Cartagena which travels through the mining villages. It is really worth a trip on the train, it takes about 25mins to get to Cartagena and costs under 6 Euros for a return ticket.

Cartagena is a lovely city, steeped in history dating back to pre Roman times. There are numerous tourist attractions which are really fun to do, I would recommend the open top bus ride and the trip around the harbour on the catamaran. If you do not want to have a history or culture lesson then the shops are fantastic, and it is a great place to buy clothes and especially shoes and handbags. La Manga Vacations

Hola Esther,

I have lived here for 10 years. I am Scottish, so very honest. The building are very ugly, I am sorry! but La Manga is very unique in my opinion.

It is listed as being one of the healthiest places to Live in the World, by the World Health Organisation, there is literally no pollution. It is a slip of land really between two seas. Its very bright and open, from the villa you can watch the sunrise and set. The villa is very close to the Mar Menor, reported to have many health properties in it. It is also the biggest salt water lagoon in Europe, fantastic for swimming, its also very warm as it is very shallow, great for children and learning water sports.

Location description from owner

The Region of Murcia region

La Manga Vacations

La Manga is basically a strip of land situated between two seas, one being the Mediterranean and the other the largest inland lake, called the Mar Menor.

The Mar Menor, or fountain of health, is the largest salt-water lake in Europe and is said to contain minerals which have healing qualities for such ailments as skin problems and rheumatism.

The shallow waters make it a beautiful and natural swimming pool, a safe area for children to swim, and the fact there are no tides make the Mar Menor the ideal place for a huge variety of water sport.

Alicante & St. Javier (Murcia) airports are not far away & are both serviced by low cost airlines operating out of Stansted, East Midlands, Gatwick, Birmingham, Newcastle, Luton, Liverpool, Manchester & Southampton.
The area is very Spanish and is not your typical British package deal holiday resort. The locals are very friendly and whilst many do speak English, a phrase book is sometimes useful.
