Description

Up in the mountains, so no. Not for people who cannot or will not drive. The compensation is you get lovely views, unobstructed, of the La Herradura bay and the mountains. If you are the outdoor type, or adventurous type, or just want to chill after frolicking in the beautiful sandy beaches of La Herradura bay with no one to disturb you but the Crickets and the occasional howl of dogs miles away, then this may be what you are looking for. You will be waking up to the most gorgeous view of the sea, framed by the mountains, and soundtrack of Cockerels in the distance. Early riser? You can see the dawn breaking over the mountains and do not, I repeat, do not miss the sunset.

It is not your 'Modern Villa' but has every modern amenities. Its rustic without being spartan, private without being isolated. The drive up to the house from the beach may sound daunting, but it is one of the most beautiful drive, slow winding roads with occasional traffic from the other side. Stop

Location description from owner

The Andalucia region

La Herradura

On the Southern Coast of Andalusian Spain, straddling the provinces of Malaga and Granada lies this little Gem. Mountains & Sea, separated by the mighty E-17 (Highway) or the N-340 which runs along the Coastline all the way from Malaga to Lord knows where (this was the main road before the E-17 was built with EU money). Towns along this road are situated about 10-15 km apart, with nothing much in between.

The hills are not snow-topped. You will see Olive, Avocados & Mango plantations on the slopes. Economy is largely Rural, agrarian but the beach towns thrive on Tourists and retired folks, mainly Spanish but some ex-pats. La Herrdura is uniquely devoid of heavy British presence. Not one Indian Takeaway, Fish & Chips or Irish Pub in sight

Getting around

A car is a must, unless you want to cycle 7 km each way. The car journey through beautiful mountain vista takes around 10 minutes. The road itself is nice, free of potholes and in 99% places, suitable for a car to pass from the other side without you having to stop. Drive down to the main road N-340, and Nerja, another coastal town (very touristy and crowded), known for the Caves in 12 km East. Some breathtaking driving by the sea, beautiful empty roads, and some beaches (crowded but manageable) on the way. Driving West, on N-340, you hit the Town of Almunecar in about 4km, Salobrena in 15km. Both have major banks, shops etc. Almunecar has AQUAWORLD, which you must go to (not expensive) if you have kids

Interaction with guest

When you have booked a stay, you will be met at the Property by our lovely English friend who will hand over the keys, explain the important stuff. You may even be greeted by our friendly Gardener (he speaks Spanish way better than English but he makes good use of Google Translate!). Once the controls and basic stuff is explained, you will be left alone in peace. If you so wish, we can stock the Fridge with essentials like fresh milk, juice etc. Inside the house, you will find everything, spices and food. Use and replace. Linens will be changed every 5 days, and cleaning done every 3 days or more often on request (a charge may apply). Fresh linen is also in the house- just use as you need. Use it as your own house and you will feel at home
