The Andalucia region
The Costa Tropical is an ideal holiday destination in summer and winter. Sheltered by the local mountains the average temperatures are usually several degrees warmer than the Costa Del Sol.
The extensive beaches with clear blue waters have been repeatedly awarded the exclusive eco-label Blue Flag, which confirms the high quality and cleanness of the Costa Tropical shoreline.
Nerja, its famous caves and the Balcon de Europa, Frigiliana (voted the prettiest village in Andalucia), Velez Malaga and Almuñecar with their Water Parks and of course the busy town of Malaga with the famous Picasso museum are great places to visit whilst staying in the area.
Alternatively just 40 minutes of breath taking scenery will take you up through the mountains and famous Alpujarra regions to Granada and the Alhambra Palace (www.alhambradegranada.org) , and in the winter months a further 30 minutes drive will take you up to the famous ski resort of the Sierra Nevada (Nov-April). For keen golfers Motril has a superb 18 hole golf course running along the Mediterranean, and many more golf clubs can be found along the coast towards Malaga.
This is an excellent location to relax, enjoy the fabulous scenery, the excellent restaurants and bars and revel in the old Spain, often described as one of the Costa del Sol´s best kept secrets, and as such is largely untouched by the mass tourism of other areas of the Costa del Sol further west.
The winter months give you the rare opportunity of skiing and snow boarding up in the mountains and returning to the coast to relax on the beach in the afternoons.
La Herradura is one of the few remaining unspoilt villages on the southern cost of Spain . A small friendly Andalucian seaside village, with traditional tapas bars and a wide range of restaurants and beach front chiringitos. Daily municipal fresh food market selling fresh local products, village bakery as well as a good selection of local shops, banks and chemist.
The excellent beach offers a wide range of watersports, sailing, windsurfing, snorkelling, diving, jet-skiing etc. There are various scuba diving centres and clubs located in the village.
A village full of history and its 18th century battalion fortress. Paragliding, Horse-riding, and tennis courts also available.
The near by Marina del Este port, has further restaurants, local beach and skippered sailing boats to hire. (www.sukisailing.com).
Cantarrijan Beach, just to the other side of the Cerro Gordo, is one of several naturist beaches in the area and has two excellent restaurants.
The headland of Cerro Gordo Natural Park provides several fascinating local walks with fabulous panoramic views.

"Relaxing week away in a beautiful apartment with fantastic views"
A perfect apartment for a group of girlfriends; a lovely balcony with beautiful views over the town and beach, perfect for lazy breakfasts and post-beach cocktails! We had a great week touring the local beaches and taking it easy in the summer heat of southern Spain. Susie and her husband made our last minute booking very straightforward and gave us lots of useful advice on shopping and beaches etc. The apartment is very well equipped, and smartly decorated and furnished, and the apartment block was very quiet. As Susie makes very clear from the advert, the apartment is at the top of a hill, which can be quite a challenge at the end of a tiring day on the beach, but it is defintely worth it for the views!
Pleased you enjoyed your holiday Jo and hope to see you again in La Herradura very soon. Kind regards.

"beautiful surroundings for a relaxing holiday"
The property is spacious, very clean and and well equiped. The view from the balcony is gorgeous and a lovely place to eat breakfast. There is a nice pool on the huge sun terrace and Susie has provided plenty of sun beds. This is where the view is most fantastic, a great place to watch the sun set. Susie was very helpful and met us at the apartment after our flight was delayed slightly. We found the apartment easily driving from Malaga, although take care driving around the village as the streets are quite narrow and steep. The village is lovely with great restaurants, we ate at a particularly nice place on the little marina, so its definately worth stopping by there one evening. The area is quite quiet and pretty, not too touristy, just perfect. The surrounding towns are more built up and in my opinion, not as nice as La Herradura. We visited the Alhambra Palace in Granada, which is just over an hours drive away. It is a fantastic, interesting place, book in advance so you can print off your tickets rather than queue. The ticket machine is hidden just past the gift shop, we spent quite a while looking for it as it is not signposted. Take lots of water too as the temperature in Granada was much hotter than on the coast! The holiday was very relaxing and just what I wanted. We had a lovely time in Susie's apartment and would reccommed it to others.
Thank you so much. We are delighted you enjoyed your holiday in La Herradura and hope to see you back again very soon.

"Excellent holiday accomodation"
The previous reviews say it all. We spent 2 weeks in August in this apartment and thoroughly enjoyed it. The apartment is well layed out, clean and comfortable. The views from the balcony and roof top terrace are fantastic. The pool, although small, was very welcome in the August heat. The walk down to the beach takes about 10 minutes. The journey back takes longer as the climb is steep in places particularly if using the steps and slopes between the apartments. La Herradura is quiet and ideal if the larger, noisier resorts are not your cup of tea. There are plenty of restaurants and several small supermarkets. We particulary recommend the Hotel Almijara, which offers a lunchtime and evening buffet for 10 euros per person. There was an excellent choice of food, which was well presented and very tasty. During our stay we managed to visit Alhambra Palace (a must), Ronda, Nerja, Frigiliana, Motril and Almunecar. During the second week of August there is a fiesta which ends on the 15th with a fantastic firework display. We also enjoyed an hour long windsurfing lesson at the winsurfing school on La Herradura beach. The staff spoke excellent English, were knowledgeable, friendly and patient with complete novices. We would not hesitate to recommend this apartment. Susie and Jose were friendly and helpful, particularly when the car lift was out of action during our stay. We greatly appreciated the use of a storeroom for our cases on our departure day as our flights were very late in the evening. Thank you Susie and Jose for a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday.
