Location description from owner

The Andalucia region

The last region of Spain to be discovered, the Costa Tropical has a Bio climate with warm winters 20oc and long hot summers approx 35oc.

If relaxing is your thing - the beaches are a complete get away with relatively little noise and sea activity. The protected area prohibits wild and noisy sea and beach activities.
This wonderful greatly undisturbed area of Adalucia has many fascinating place to explore. There are many
national park areas - the closest is Maro-Cerro Gordo the headland to the west of the bay and beyond. Peppered with small bays and tiny rock pools and coves, park your car at the top and scramble down the tiny paths and spend the day relaxing or snorkelling. Some of the beaches have a good bar/resturaunt, some are natural/naturist- take a picnic and unwind.

One of the amazing things about this area is that you can be scuba diving one day, skiing or exploring caves the next, taking in a round of golf, or discovering the terrain on horseback for a full on activity holiday!

Other protected areas are the Alpujarra mountains approx 1 hour inland towards Granada. These offer spectacular scenary tiny villages good walking and an all round mild climate. The Sierra Nervada - 2nd highest mountain range in Europe offers not only uncrowded skiing, but also superb mountainering and climbing. approx 11/2 hours away.
The mountains directly behind la Herradura provide natural cool picnic spots by waterfalls and pools. And the increadible scenery and magnificent views as you travel to the famous beautiful and historic town of Alhama de Granada (not to be confused with the palace), houses the theraputic hyper- thermal waters and natural springs recommended for many ailments.
In the city of Granada, Alhambra palace is a must! About 1hour 20mins away. (You must book - this can be done via the internet www.alhambradegranada.org).
The Costa Tropical region is rich in wildlife, olive and fruit orchards, tapas bars, music and culture.

La Herradura has one fabulous 'bohemian' nightclub, with live music Friday and Saturady nights. The much larger town of Almunecar, 5 mins away, has a good nightlife with many attractions.

La Herradura

La Herradura - (meaning the horseshoe), with its history of pirate attacks and and shipwrecked saliors.....has retained an uncomplicated and traditional feel. There are many festivals that are celebrated in the town and pass directly by the house, they include: 19th March Dia san Jose and 24th June Dia de san Jaun (to name but a few)! However there are always fiestas at many villages and towns in the surrounding area.
The other headland of La Herradura is Punta de Mona. Here lies the imrpressive Marina de l'este yacht harbour, (a blue flag marina), for a relaxing drink and boat trips can be organised.
The town also offers scuba diving, and windsurfing, fishing, Yoga, a gym, and ti chi in Almunecar.
The town has two recommended spanish schools.
Horse riding is available 15mins away in each direction. Walking, mountain climbing, ab sailing.
There is also a very good information beaurea that can give you further details on any topics.

Nearby Nerja boasts increadible caves (only discovered in the 50's by 3 local boys), regular concerts are played in the vast main chamber. Here also is one of many golf courses that surround the area.
The nearest large town is Almunecar - 5 minetes away (by car or regular bus service). it boasts a fortress, large general and secondhand markets, interesting shopping in old town, many restaurants and beaches.
