Location description from owner

The Midi-Pyrénées region

La Fouillade

The picturesque villages of Najac and Cordes -sur-Ciel are only a short distance away and days out to Albi, St Antonin, Conques and St-Cirq-La-Poppie are easy. There are beautiful medieval villages and walled towns which are well worth exploring, discover the history of the One Hundred Years war and the 13th century Cathar Rebellion. “A Holiday within a Holiday”

Reviewed 20 Aug 2016

Living in Australia and planning an extended visit in the Aveyron area, when you book your accommodation even though the photographs and description of the property sound wonderful, you are still anxious when you arrive as to wether you will actually receive what you hopefully expect. This property delivers everything you could possibly wish for and the added bonus is that the property is situated in the most beautiful countryside and offers so many authentic and well cared for medieval villages to visit. To begin our four and a half month visit, there were just the two of us and we chose (very selfishly) the bedroom with the double french doors out onto the little terrace close to the pool area, which was just perfect for lazing in night-attire with the first cuppa of the morning and surveying the gently sloping landscape and listening to the peaceful sounds of the surrounding countryside. The well appointed kitchen/dining room/family room with its massive oak beams, rarely got a look in as we mostly dined on the front terrace for breakfast or in the stone walled courtyard at the side of the house for lunch or dinner. The formal dining room with a huge cumfy lounge suite also has a massive oak beam ceiling plus an additional stairway up to two seperate bedrooms plus en-suite and seperate toilet which again was perfect for additional family members when they arrived. The only thing we haven't mentioned is the fabulous pool area, with its state of the art automatic filtering system and robot 'no hands on' pool cleaner. Just pop it into the pool, switch it on, leave it to do all the hards work and then lift it out! Too easy. So, the choice is all yours - either sit by the pool and luxuriate in peaceful surroundings - or go flat out and see as much of this beautiful area that you can - or do as we did - DO BOTH. In summing up we would just like to thank Peter and Christine for such a glorious holiday in such a beautiful home away from home and we can highly recommend it for all types of families. John and Maureen, Australia.

John and Maureen, thanks for summing up your experience in south west France. We are so pleased that you have had such a great time, you are welcome back anytime. Peter.

“What a fab house and brilliant holiday”

Reviewed 28 Dec 2014

We were four adults and four children (ages 8 to 17). We have had family holidays in France many times in but this was something different. The area is full of beautiful countryside, history and culture. The local food and wines were a real discovery and we spent endless sunny hours by the lovely pool. The house is spacious, immaculate and sunny. We were looking for a destination with a difference and we certainly found it at oak tree cottage.

“Tranquility and beauty in the French countryside”

Reviewed 8 Aug 2013

After driving through beautiful countryside you arrive at the villa set in rolling hills, fields and forest. The stone villa is very spacious and comfortable. It's well equipped, satellite tv, dvd and cd players. A good selection of books and dvds. The kitchen is well equipped if you enjoy cooking the wonderful French produce, and the beds are comfortable. Very light and roomy, the villa has lovely views all round. You can sit on the front terrace and have breakfast and watch the buzzards hunting over the fields. A few feet away birds sit in the hedgerow and sing their hearts out. In the garden the lavender attracts a variety of bees and butterflies, great to watch, they never bother you, their only interest is in nectar. There are places to sit around the villa whether you like sunshine or shade. The pool has the sun on it all the time, we had 2 weeks of unbroken sunshine and the pool was warm, no shocks! Great for swimming or just lazing, floating around soaking up the sun. Some lovely walks nearby. La Fouillade is just up the road, 5 mins by car. There's a café and Bistro where you can have a light lunch if you don't want to go far. A good supermarket also. A little further is Najac, a beautiful mediaeval town. To the south, Albi is about an hour away via Cordes-sur-Ciel. To the north the lovely town of Villefranche de Rouergues, 40mins. Both highly recommended. A few times we got ready with the intention of exploring the area, but it was just so comfortable at the villa, we ended up lazing around the pool! We went for peace and quiet and were well rewarded, we will definitely go again.

“A delightful cottage in a stunning location”

Reviewed 5 Aug 2013

We had a wonderful stay in this lovely, modern, clean and sunny cottage. Everything was perfect when we arrived and the welcome pack was greatly appreciated. My family really enjoyed the beautiful location and we got full use out of the pool. Local visits to the towns and villages were a delight and the countryside is so unspoilt. We will definitely go back, there is much more to see and do.
