La Force, Bergerac
Bergerac is the largest town in the Périgord Pourpre département, an area that derives its name from the purple grapes that grow in the region's 125 sq km of vineyards.
On the plains of the Dordogne, Bergerac is a modern town with scattered remnants from its interesting and violent past. In the 16th century it was a Protestant stronghold and it endured much damage during that period. The old city and harbour retain their charm, however, making Bergerac a most charming place to visit!

"A thing of beauty is a joy forever . . ." John Keats"
Riandaule is definitely "a thing of beauty" and the memories of our stay will be "a joy forever," reminding us of deeper and higher fellowship together. Waking early to the mist lifting off the Dordogne, I reveled in the peace of two swans gently gliding down the river. This 17th Century chateau is surrounded by lavender and roses. Inside, the rooms echo four centuries of history through the antiques and reproduction tapestries that create an atmosphere of wonder and adventure. Riandaule's beauty is enhanced with all the amenities of today: newly updated bathrooms and lovely swimming pool. Riandaule is close to so many interesting places to see: Bordeaux, Bergerac, Sarlat, castles Monbazzilac and Beynac, Rocamadour, Carcasonne, and the French Riviera (we enjoyed them all), but some of the best times were around the fireplace in the kitchen sipping coffee, enjoying fresh French-baked croissants for breakfast and preparing dinner and sharing the highlights of our adventures of the day. It afforded us time as a family to relax, remember good times as we were in the process of making new memories. The chateau has multiple rooms and patios to slip away for time alone, but the sumptuous size of gathering rooms are filled with color and comfort that beckon warm fellowship. Everything is tastefully done by a very creative hand. We loved our time at Riandaule and hope to return soon. All the people we met were so kind.

"Perfect French retreat"
Riandaule was amazing - peaceful, charming, comfortable - the perfect location for a vacation in the French countryside. When we arrived, the caretaker met us to show us around, and had left wine and bread and chocolates for us. There was a large binder full of information on anything we would need - the location of the best local bakery, the grocery store, market days, things to do in nearby towns, and detailed instructions on how to work everything in the house. Even though Tory and John Mark weren't there physically, we certainly felt their presence there in spirit! The kitchen was fully stocked with dishes, spices, and other cooking implements, making home-made meals very easy. The bedrooms were very comfortable, and there were so many cozy spaces in the house to relax and read or talk. The house is right on the Dordogne river, and on a nice day it's wonderful to just sit out on chairs and watch the wildlife. You wouldn't want to be here without a car, as there really isn't anything within walking distance, but everything is very easy to find. Bergerac is a short drive away, and the region is full of interesting towns to explore. The perfect place to stay for a lovely vacation!
