Location description from owner

The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region

The Limousin is considered one of the best-kept secrets in France. A stunning rural region filled with lakes, rolling valleys and forested mountains crossed by fish filled rivers. The tiny hamlets and villages conceal treasures of French rural life.

The landscape of Limousin has a long history, from the pre-historic to the Romans, and the heather strewn moorlands were the inspiration for many of Monet's famous paintings. There are a huge number of important sites and town's in France's history, from Limoges, the porcelain centre with the towering cathedral, to Bourganeuf, the centre of the Templa Knights, and from the remains of the city gates in La Southerraine to Chalus, where Richard the Lionheart was fatally wounded.

For food lovers, The Limousin specialises in sheep and the Limousin cattle bred in the region. Fish from the mountain streams and the fruit and mushrooms from the miles of forests and fruit plantations mean that there are plenty of local delicacies to experiment with. not to mention the cheese and gateaux famous in Limousin.

Limousin is a rural area, and therefore there is no end of fabulous walking, cycling and horse riding options. From La Nouvelle Vie you also have the flexibility to take a kayak on one of the Mountain Rivers, or fish along the peaceful banks of the streams and lakes.

There are also a great variety of golf courses available in Limousin ( nine altogether). All of which are open to visitors all year round.

Weather in Limousin, France

Summer temperatures in Limousin often reach over 32ºC, and staying in the Limousin will expose you to 2000 hours of sun per year. However, the winters can be cold and wet, and snow is not uncommon, as Limousin is mainly an upland area.

La Croisille sur Briance

For some beautiful panoramic views of this area visit Mont Gargon just 6kms away, with an altitude of 731m ( verdeyme is 550m) Or search out a bargin at one the local markets and car boot sales.Or soak up the amosphere at the local fetes of which many have live music.Or dine out at one of the many restaurants around ,especially at Miday when you can have a 5 coarse lunch for about 12 euros Which includes the wine. This is just a small sample of what you can do here.there are plenty more displayed in our information pack together with local maps.

SHOPPING.
The pretty village of Chambret,5miles away has an excellent boulangerie,a supermarket which is open until 7pm mon-sat and 10am to 12am on sundays, bars restaurants, chemist, doctors, bank, post office (with 24hr cash machine)Or if you are a shopaholic there is always Limoges and Brive to explore.

HOUSE HUNTING IN THE LIMOUSIN.
La Nouvelle Vie is in an ideal position for house hunters as it is on the border of the Correze and the Haute Vienne giving easy access to both departments.

A list of English speaking local estate agents, with there phone numbers and email addresses can be supplied on request , and if you have any queries about living in the Limousin we will do our best to help you.

“Beautiful, well equipped, comfortable accommodation in the most peaceful and relaxing environment!”

Reviewed 2 Jun 2013

We just want to say thank you so much for our wonderful stay in your beautiful cottage! It had everything we needed and the peace and quiet was most relaxing! And the pond, complete with singing, leaping frogs, was a lovely feature! We spent a lovely hour or two around the pond, with the most beautiful scenery and sunshine! This accommodation comes very highly recommended, and the whole Limousin area is very beautiful. There are far too many wonderful places to visit, but we managed to fit in as much as we could! I am sure that all of your clients will enjoy their stay in your lovely cottage just as much as we did! Thanks again and take care! Michelle, Ray and Brandon :) Tip ; try to fit in a little bike ride or two with the bikes provided! we spent a couple of lovely evenings riding around the immediate area and saying "bonsoir" to the lovely brown cows. And make sure you catch the sun setting - a marvellous sight! We are sure that you will be treated to the lovely frogs chorus a few times during your stay too!!!
