The stunning Chateau de Jumilhac and picturesque picnicing area along side the river are within a short drive, numerous other Chateaux and places of historic interest are also within easy driving distance.
Historians will appreciate that we are in the centre of Richard the Lionheart country, where in March 1199 he came to Chalus (just 10 mins away by car) and laid siege to the castle of Chalus Chabrol, where he was shot with a bolt from a crossbow, of which the King died of his wound.
We are also on the pilgrim route of Saint Jacques de Compostelle.
The surrounding beautiful villages have bars and restaurants for you to discover and enjoy.
A 15 minute drive will take you to Bussiere Galante, which has a large lake with a sanded beach and swimming area, an assault course, a quarter mile long zip wire over the lake, football pitches, crazy golf, minature railway & a cafe.
The beautiful historic cities of Limoges and Perigueux are within an hours drive.

Location description from owner

The Dordogne region

The Dordogne region of south-west France is one of the most beautiful and popular destinations in the country.
Visit this beautiful region of France and discover the chateaux, beautiful medieval towns and villages with weekly markets, unspoiled countryside and prehistoric caves.
There are many 'famous sights' in the Dordogne, including Lascaux caves, Marqueyssac gardens, medieval Sarlat, castles such as Chateau Castelnaud, Chateau de Jumilhac, Chateau de Hautefort,( just to mention a few) and the prehistoric caves in the Vezere Valley.
The highlight of the Perigord Vert region is the beautiful town of Brantome and its abbey. Near to Brantome is the "most beautiful village" of St-Jean-de Cole and also the attractive village of Bourdeilles.
Nearby Thiviers is known as the capital of Foie Gras, a delicious speciality of the region and not to be missed. Whilst Riberac is a thriving market town.
Another favourite town is Excideuil and close to here the recently discovered Grotte de Tourtoirac.
Some of the other best known highlights include the gouffre de Padirac caves and canoeing the Dordogne, with the most popular towns and villages including Bergerac, Brantome, Excideuil, La Roque-Gageac, Le Bugue, Riberac and Rocamadour
There are easy travel links by road and train to the Dordogne region of France from the UK and mainland Europe, many flights (including low cost airlines operating to Limoges, approximately 40 mins).

La Coquille

La Coquille is within the Regional Natural Parc of Perigord and Limousin in the northern part of the Dordogne, stretching towards the Limousin to the north and Charente to the west, is named Perigord Vert (green Perigord) because of the greenery of the forests and meadows of the region.
This little town has many amenities including a main Railway link, a Supermarket, Boulangeries, a Butcher shop, Newsagents/Tabaconist, Bank, Pharmacie, a couple of Bars, a Restaurant for fine dining, Pizzeria & several small shops.
It is on the RN21 which runs runs from Limoges to Perigueux.
