Description from owner

Description

This barn has been converted to a high standard.
La Roussie is located only 1.5 km from the main route through the Dordogne allowing fast and easy access to all the sights and attractions. The Limousine and Charente areas are also close by.
We have plenty of parking and La Roussie is on a no through road so the only real traffic are tractors.
La Coquille is 5 minutes away and is a small town offering you all the facilities you would expect with bars, restaurants, fabulous butcher, wine shop, supermarket, choice of bakers, cash point, station (trains to Perigueux, Limoges and Bordeaux) , post office and pharmacy.
La Roussie is surrounded by beautiful villages that all have bars and restaurants for you to enjoy.
Not far for a lunch time visit to Brantome with a possible paddle around on the river.
For those who prefer to relax back at your base:
3 bedrooms have super king zip and link and king sized beds, these can be split down into full sized single beds on request.

3 bedrooms have super king zip and link and king sized beds, these can be split down into full sized single beds on request. The 4th is a king sized double.
Each bedroom has its own en-suite shower/bathroom.
1 room is on the ground floor with a bath.
There is a fully kitted out kitchen with all the mod cons and a full dining area that will easily seat everyone.
The living space is open plan, again with plenty of comfortable seating for the whole group. This leads out to the terrace.
The grounds are all fenced, allowing you and your family the freedom of 15 acres of parkland and woods with a couple of streams.
The heated pool is 12m x 6m with lots of games or sun loungers and parasols for all if you prefer a slower pace.
There is a pool side cabana with seating, fridge and WC so you don't have far to wander for your ice cold juice in a shady spot!
Located between the barn and pool is a large terrace with a huge dining area and 4 burner gas barbecue.
There are plenty of walking trails and they set off directly from your door.
Within a 5 minute drive you can be at the fantastic lake at Miallet which is perfect for fishing and bird watching, for those who prefer a swim and lots of action, there is espace-hermeline which is approx 15 minute drive.
La Roussie has something for everyone all year, we are in the heart of truffle and mushroom country, there are cepes, girolles and many more varieties growing on the property and we are surrounded by wonderful winter markets offering duck and goose products and of course a local truffle market, all of this washed down with a good glass of Bergerac or Bordeaux in our local restaurant makes for a wonderful afternoon or evening after a good walk or drive around.
For the historians out there, we are right in the centre of Richard the Lionheart country and he took his fatal arrow just 10 minutes up the road.
The St Jacques de Compostelle route passes right through La Coquille so you will see many pilgrims or hikers tackling this route.

“An exceptional gite in a lovely rural setting”

Reviewed 27 Jun 2015

We spent a lovely week in this excellent gite. The accommodation is spacious, luxurious, very comfortable and equipped to a very high standard inside and out. A very comprehensive welcome pack with all the basics was provided by our hosts who were most welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. La Roussie with its heated swimming pool and lovely garden is the ideal place to chill out and relax. After a day of visiting local sights we liked nothing better than to kick back on the loungers by the pool in peaceful tranquility and soak up the evening sun with a sundowner or two. There are lovely towns to explore within easy distance. Brantome, Jumilhac Le Grand, Thiviers and La Coquille are all worth a visit. We also visited Oradour Sur Glane - a moving and thought provoking experience. The town remains as a memorial to the inhabitants who were massacred and the town burned by the Nazis. All the local places have good restaurants. We can recommend the Pizzeria in La Coquille and if you want something special Les Voyageurs restaurant in the main street is an excellent choice. As La Roussie is a rural setting a car is essential. We loved everything about this gite and plan to return very soon. Thank you Sylvia, David and Rachael for a fantastic stay.

“Great place to stay, great part of France!”

Reviewed 3 Jun 2015

Very well renovated and attractive Gite in a quiet and picturesque area. Accommodation spacious, comfortable and to a high standard, with high quality amenities, including heated swimming pool, patio and sunbed area, with gas BBQ, all overlooking the acres of open fields and woodland that form part of the estate, which are available to explore and enjoy. A warm and friendly welcome from the Dobson family, who did everything possible to make sure we had a great time. We found plenty to see and do in the local area, including tree adventure course, mini golf, canoeing down the Dronne river, local markets, old Chateaux and lots of pretty villages to explore for lunch. There is also a boulangerie and supermarket 5 minutes' drive away in La Coquille. You do need a car to get around, but nowhere is far and the roads were quiet with very little traffic. We flew into Limoges Airport, which was an easy 40 minute drive to the property, and hired a car from the airport. We thought it might be a little bit quiet for our two teenage boys, but they loved the outdoors, and exploring the area and sampling the food just as much as we did! Had a lovely, relaxing week and would thoroughly recommend it!

Owner's reply: Thank you for your comments, we look forward to round 2 of the mini-golf, if we are invited!
