Description

Dating from the 9th century and set in the Dronne valley, Riberac is at its best on a Friday, market day for reputedly the biggest market in Perigord. At most other times it is fairly quiet. It is a pleasant town in an attractive setting in the rolling countryside of the northern Dordogne region.

There are two main attractions near the town - a large forest, the 'Foret de la Double'; and lots and lots of Romanesque churches. For me, three or four suffice...some examples can be seen at Festalemps, Faye and Siorac-de-Riberac.

If you are keen, there is a pretty circuit that passes by many of the little villages and churches of the region - see Riberac Churches - ask in the tourist office for map and details.

Riberac makes a very good base for exploring this northern part of the Dordogne - don't miss Lusignac, a very pretty little village with good views, a nice medieval church and a chateau.

Riberac makes a very good base for exploring this northern part of the Dordogne - don't miss Lusignac, a very pretty little village with good views, a nice medieval church and a chateau.

Our gite complex, newly refurbished for 2015, consists of The Cottage, 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom single story cottage sleeping 6 and The Barn, a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom two story conversion closer to the entrance also sleeping 6. With an above ground pool, each property has its own BBQ area and large gardens for guests to enjoy and relax in. We are 10 minutes walk from the centre.

There is free WiFi for those wanting to "be connected" and both have fully fitted kitchens, lounges and UKTV with DVDs. All linen, towels are included in our charges. Situated within walking distance of the town of Riberac but just far enough away to enjoy a peaceful retreat in the gorgeous French countryside.

Currently available for rent from June to September, our changeover day is Saturday.

The airport of Bergerac is 57km and is serviced by Ryanair and FlyBe. With Bordeaux 120km serviced by BA or Easyjet and Limoges 120km serviced by Ryanair and FlyBe. The nearest rail station is Angouleme 59km via Eurostar/TGV and we suggest that you look for changeovers at Lille rather than Paris. Travelling by Ferry, Calais is 792km and takes about 7.5 hours, Le Havre is 590km and Dieppe being 636km and taking about 6 hours each.

Location description from owner

The Dordogne region

La Charrouffie

Riberac is just a short walk. There are restaurants, cafés and shops. There are also tennis courts, a cinema which often shows English-language films and a locally renowned Friday market, where you can view and buy antiques, soaps, jewellery, delicious local produce, pottery, linen and vintage clothing. A smaller farmers' market is on Tuesday mornings. The town has pharmacies, bakeries, banks, supermarkets and, if you are thinking of buying a house in the region, there are several estate agents we can introduce you to.

A few minutes drive takes you to Canoes Ribérac, where you can hire a kayak or canoe by the day or for a few hours and explore the River Dronne. Take a picnic lunch and look out for the fish and otters.

The are also many musical events during the summer, ranging from classical Baroque to blues, jazz, folk and rock and roll.

If you enjoy walking and old buildings, a superb group of Romanesque churches is on your doorstep. Should you enjoy painting or photography the Dordogne has attracted countless artists, professional and less so and one could do no better for a subject than the very attractive view of Ribérac and its churches and old buildings.
