Description from owner

Description

The casita is a delightful old cottage, used in olden times for shelter for the farmer and his donkey. It is very cosy; warm in winter and cool in summer. It has been completely renovated and is completely self-contained. It has an upstairs sleeping area with a double bed and a double sofa bed downstairs in the large main living area, which also has a logburner for the cooler winter months.

Outside the casita there is a large ironwork pergola, over which grow 2 old vines. These provide a gorgeous feast of grapes in the autumn and from early summer onward provide cooling shade from the hot sun, ideal to relax under with a nice drink. We also make some superb wine from the grapes. The finca is a wonderful place to explore and has a multitude of places where you can feel completely alone and find that quiet moment to catch up on your favourite book or just enjoy some sunbathing. We have ducks and chickens for fresh eggs and our 3 lovely dogs who will make good friends with you.

The casita is ideal for couples or for a small family group.

We encourage our guests to use water wisely. It is such a precious resource and we try to be as efficient as possible with its use; for example we use the water from the washing up to water the trees outside the casita and we encourage people not to leave taps running while brushing their teeth or washing their hands.

All the gas that we use is bottled butane and is very clean. All electricity is full domestic supply and is powered entirely by the sun through our own bank of solar panels and batteries. The batteries do not provide enough power for hair dryers, coffee machines or mobile air conditioning units so please leave these at home.

Near to the Casita is our own Petanque court which provides hours of fun for all the family.

Our finca has been licensed by the Catalunya Tourist Board to offer holiday accommodation. This organisation promotes the provision of a high standard of accommodation and service to holidaymakers in Catalunya.

Location description from owner

The Catalonia region

Tarragona was one of the major sites of Roman civilisation in Spain and has many well-preserved sites of historical interest. Closer to us is the mighty River Ebro, world- famous for its catfish and carp fishing. The Ebro Delta is a wonderful place with a great variety of wildlife and birds including hoopoes and eagles.

There is an abundance of wine producing areas such as the great Rioja and Cava is made here too. Vineyard visits are definitely worth the trip.

Venture further afield to Barcelona and see the amazing Gaudi cathedral; the Sagrada Familia, or the famous Ramblas. Barcelona can be reached by express train in under 2 hours and costs very little. If theme parks are your cup of tea then there is even one of those: Port Aventura, which is only about 40 minutes away by car.

The climate in our area is very kind. The summers are not blisteringly hot and the winters are not freezing cold. We are situated in the south of Catalonia and have got the best climate of all of Catalonia, which itself has better weather than many of its neighbours.

L'Ampolla

Situated mid-way between Barcelona and Valencia, this is an area famous for its rice production. The Spanish love Paella and much of Spain's rice is grown here. The region is rich in wildlife and birds and the scenery is stunning, boasting everything from high mountains to beautiful sandy beaches. An area of outstanding natural beauty, the area is perfect for fishing, walking, mountain-biking, diving, sightseeing or just recharging your batteries away from the stress and strain of the modern world. There are local sports centres and an indoor swimming pool only around 10km from us.

“Very peaceful with great hosts”

Reviewed 19 Feb 2016

The casita, is well equipped and spotlessly clean. The hosts, Simon and Amanda were fabulous, friendly, welcoming and happy to share their knowledge and experience of building their wonderful new life in the sun. The dogs and chickens were a bonus as was the endless olive groves, almond trees and views. A place to unwind and totally relax with or without the sun.

Thank you so much for your kind words. We love to have the opportunity to share our beautiful home and show people what a wonderful area we live in. It makes us very happy that our visitors can appreciate and share our dreams here.

“Fantastic”

Reviewed 27 Sep 2015

It is the 3rd time we have stayed here. Love the atmosphere, where it is situated and the hosts, who make you stay stress free and enjoyable. Will certainly go back for a 4th visit. Would give 5 stars but the box won't fill in.

We'll have to get a bigger box for the stars! Thank you both so much for coming to stay again, we feel like part of your family and you as part of our family. Good luck with your nursing and say Hi to the rest of the family for us.

“Wildlife, tranquility and a lovey place to stay”

Reviewed 7 Nov 2013

A really nice place to stay with friendly, helpful people. If you want to do your bit for the planet then this is the place for you. It was easy access for birdwatching the Ebro Delta and mountains with excellent results. A visit to the old town in Tarragona is must. We had a great time being out from just after dawn until dusk. Local restaurants serve excellent food and are great value for money. The small fridge might be a problem in the summer in the summer but I'm sure Simon would find a solution.

Great to have met you both and very pleased that you had such a successful trip. Point taken about the small fridge; will consider a larger one for next summer. Would be lovely to see you again, perhaps at a different time of year when different varieties of birds are visiting? Best wishes, Simon and Amanda

“Idyllic rural retreat in the Spanish Countryside”

Reviewed 6 Jul 2012

If your looking for beautiful views of the Spanish Hills and being surrounded by Olive and Almond trees combined with the perfect hosts in Simon and Amanda then look no further than Manna House. A perfect setting for a peaceful and relaxing holiday. Loved the dogs!

Good to read your comments. It was a pleasure to meet you both and we are very happy that you enjoyed your visit so much. Hope you can find time to come back again one day.

“Rural Bliss”

Reviewed 18 Jul 2011

Colin and Mandy are the perfect hosts and made us feel completely at home. We were greeted on arrival with a bottle of olive oil made from olives off the farm, a basket of almonds picked from the farm and a jar of homemade apricot jam (made by Mandy) from same ... all DELICIOUS! The feel of the place is tremendous and the Casita is rustically furnished which fits in exactly right with the surroundings. It is very warm and comfy with lots of windows when you want to let in the cool evening breeze. The chickens (including a rooster!) and ducks provide no end of entertainment with their "rummaging around" all day in the dirt. And the dogs are such lovely animals and just add to that "homely" feel. All in all a wonderful place to retreat to when life in the fast lane becomes way too fast and you need time to wind down, sit, relax, contemplate life and breath in the fresh air. JUST FABULOUS!

We are very pleased with your recommendation. It was a pleasure to have you here and we really enjoyed your company. Will keep in touch !

“perfect for a quiet restful holiday”

Reviewed 18 Jul 2011

perfect place to stay if looking for a quiet holiday. owners of casita were really friendly and came away feeling they were friends. accommodation clean, tidy and comfortable. Car is needed as a beautiful beach is approx. 6 miles away and the casita is located off the main routes. Happily go again, have plans to do just that.

So pleased that you found our home in the sun. We really enjoyed meeting you and hope that you went home as refreshed as you both looked at the end of your holiday. Hope to see you again one day.
