Our place is a renovated traditional Kyoto style house once it was called 'Ocha-ya', a teahouse where you could call in some geisha to dine and wine under the same roof. It is nestled in the center of Kamishichiken Geisha Quarter next to the Kyoto's oldest Geisha Theater where you can overhear the geisha's practice of some traditional musical instruments. 3 min walk from Kamishichiken bus station and 10-15 min taxi ride to downtown Shijo area. Despite the renowned location of the Geisha quarter, the neighborhood is very quiet especially at night as it is not a common mass-tourist area. However, the locals who want to spend some special time yet avoiding the crowd like in the Gion quarter, simply choose this elegant quarter. So you will have many choices of fine restaurants that serve from the noodles to 'Kaiseki' Kyoto-style course menu where geisha and apprentice maiko also often dine out. Please take a moment on the 'Guidebook' placed top right on your page and click on the marks in the map so that you can get some ideas of how well this property is situated.
The traditional Japanese houses do not have what others call 'bedrooms'. Instead, we have multi-functional rooms that can be used as bed room, guest room, tea room, etc. as futons can be easily folded and put away in the closet to maximize space usage. We have 3 rooms, 1 kitchen/bar/dining room on the ground floor, 2 upstairs that are used for sleeping. All are air-conditioned and supplementary heaters during winter for maximum comfort. A larger tatami-mat room can sleep 4 persons (or 5 if you don't mind the limited space) and we have a single bed that can also be used to accommodate another person to make the total maximum of 5 persons. Our toilet has marble and granite walls with a separate wash sink as well as an urinal and a standard Western style toilet equipped with a seat warmer with a bidet function, both reflecting the days of 'geisha bar'. The cypress wooden bath tub with a side view of the garden promises a relaxing and soothing time. There is a laundry room with cleaning products next to the kitchen as well.
2 Free bike rental, 1 Free Car Parking, Free internet Wifi. Electric kitchen stove, coffee maker, toaster, rice cooker, microwave oven, refrigerator, washer, shower/bath tub, hair dryer. As for the linen, clean sheets, pillow cases, and towels (bath and hand) are provided.

From Kyoto Station - it is probably the easiest to use a taxi if you have luggage, but the most cost effective way is to take the Kyoto city bus #50 bound for Ritsumeikan University and get off at Kamishichiken - 31min 21 stops 220yen adult, 110yen child
Osaka (Kansai Internatinal) Airport - you can either take a Haruka express JR train to Kyoto station and take a cab or have us book a mini-van shuttle bus that comes right to our house alley (3,500 yen per passenger NO booking fee, NO tips - payable with credit card to the driver)

The Kinki region
The Northeast region of Kyoto city has major tourist attractions such as Kunkaku Temple (Golden Pavilion), Ryoan Temple (Zen temple with a famous rock garden), Kitano-tenmangu Shrine (Shinto shrine for education), etc. These places are easily accessible by the city buses yet people who are in rush unfortunately don't have the opportunity to appreciate this region.
The area is known as Kamishichiken, one of the 5 Geisha Quarters in Kyoto and it is the oldest. Recently the street has been renovated with style so that all electric polls are now under ground, making it look like what it used to be a few centuries ago. The area boasts of a number of elegant and fine restaurants as well as clean and casual diners that are not known much for the foreign tourists. The day time has more domestic tourists due to the proximity of Kitano tenmangu Shrine but when the night falls, the people are scarce on the street, making it one of the favorite hiding places for the locals.
