Description

This modern, detached holiday bungalow is set on the shores of Loch Duich in the village of inverinate.

With a garden leading directly onto the shore and magnificent views over the Loch to Mam Ratagan and the Glenshiel valley, Glensona provides an ideal location for a relaxing break.

Glensona is an excellent base to tour the many scenic routes and attractions of the West Highlands, Eilean Donan Castle, the Glenelg Brocks and the picturesque fishing village of Plocton amongst others are all within a short drive. Being just 15 miles from the Skye Bridge we can recommend a number of routes and attractions for day trips to the Isle of Skye. Loch Ness is also within an easy drive and the historic city of Inverness just further along the road.

For walkers Glensona is well placed as a base to explore the many Munroes and peaks of Glenshiel, Kintail and the surrounding area (Sgurr Na Moraich of the Five Sisters and the Saddle are just two which are visible from Glensona).

There are also many lower level walks such as the falls of Glomach within easy reach.

The area is a haven for wildlife and, as you relax in the lounge look for seals, porpoises and otters in the Loch as well as an abundance of bird life both along the shoreline, (Egrets, Oyster Catchers, Heron and Sandpipers) and also smaller species in the garden

Other activities available locally include boat trips, pony trekking, canoeing and much more.

A superb location and wonderful house. Ideal vase for hill walking in Glen Shiel and Skye. We will definately visit again.

“Quiet getaway”

Reviewed 6 Nov 2016

Lovely location right on the loch shore, was able to watch otters playing in the water at the foot of the garden. The weather was variable (as you would expect at that time of year in Scotland!), but was spectacular regardless of what season you were looking out the window at! Great location for touring around Skye and Wester Ross. Where the house let itself down was in some of the wee "extras" that we have seen in most rentals in Scotland, which if we were aware of could have brought with us. The kitchen had all essentials but nothing else - the cupboards were bare. If you plan on going out for the day and taking sandwiches with you make sure you take Tupperware boxes or polly bags or a roll of foil. Likewise make sure you take sugar along with the tea and coffee you take with you, also any condiments would be useful. Only one roll of toilet roll and kitchen roll for a week - so ration it! It sounds petty but after a long drive I would have expected some basics to be there rather than having to go to the shops. We had stopped in a Fort William on the way up and bought groceries, but not to the degree we needed. Really minor, but with just a wee bit more effort would have been great and not put us on the back foot.

“Beautifully Presented Cottage in ideal location”

Reviewed 31 Oct 2016

This is a spacious well kept cottage. Had everything we needed. I have never seen so many cupboards in a kitchen and bathroom of self catering accommodation. A lovely location overlooking Loch Duich. The only negative comment is that it could do with a couple of the trees being cut down so you can see more of the loch from the cottage without having to go down to the bottom of the garden. As we are nature lovers we enjoyed seeing an otter twice from the garden. If the trees were down you could sit in the cottage on a rainy day and just watch for them in comfort. Central location for visiting Skye, Plockton, Shieldaig (where there are sea eagles on the island offshore), Kyle of Lochalsh, Glenelg etc.

“A Immaculate property in an ideal position with exceptional views”

Reviewed 5 Jan 2014

An immaculate and comfortable property with exceptional views across Lock Duich to Ratagan and the west end of the 5 sisters. The garden, from which we have watched porpoise and otter, leads down to the Lock. This is an excellent base for exploring Glen Elg, the Sleet of Skye, Applecross and even Inverness (scenic rail trip from Kyle). From Skye it is possible, in a day, to Island hop by ferry to the Islands of Rum and Eigg. We have stayed here twice and have found it the perfect place to relax and explore the beauty of the West Highlands.
