Description

In the vicinity of the island of Murter, a natural reception desk for Kornati, stretches the Kornati National Park, a unique archipelago in the entire Mediterrenean. It covers the area of 300 km2, and consists of around 140 islands, islets and reefs of the total area of 69 km2. The Kornati islands are privately owned, and a majority of the owners comes from the town of Murter. The Kornati archipelago, an ecological oasis, was proclaimed a National Park in 1980.

An amazing combination of nature and man, who has inhabited the Kornati for several thousand years, which is also reflected in always modest but impressive constructions (ports, shepherd settlements, drywall fences, olive groves, small jetties, a fortress, a castle, churches, a saltpan, tumuli etc.) ornate the area of the Kornati National Park.

Cottage is located in the Vrulje cove, on the right side of the cove, slightly separated from all the other houses. The house is made of stone in a traditional way and consists of a small hall, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen with living room. In the house you can find a gas refrigerator, a gas cooker and an gas oven. The kitchen is equipped wit all the necessary pots and dishes. Lighting is provided by solar panels. The house has its own water tank and drinkable rain-water. For shower, the rain-water is used by means of a hand-pump, and for kitchen by means of a foot-pump. Sea water is used for toilet flushing. In front of the house there is a shade and an outdoor table. A GSM signal exists, and a mobile phone can be charged by a storage battery by means of a car power adapter. In the house there is a basic first aid kit. The size of the house is 40 m2.

The biggest settlement on the island of Kornat is VRULJE with approximately 50 houses. VRULJE isn't a permanently inhabited place, since the owners, living on the island of Murter, occasionally come to the Kornati for agricultural and fishing reasons. The most common crop in the archipelago is olive tree from which high-quality olive oil is obtained. In addition to agriculture, local people occupy themselves with fishing, raising cattle and tourism. In the Vrulje cove there are 3 restaurants. There is also a little shop where customers can buy basic groceries. These can also be bought on a boat-shop which visits Vrulje on a regular basis. We recommend that before leaving for the Kornati you supply yourself with the necessary stuff. There is no doctor or an outpatient department in Vrulje, nor on the Kornati islands. In case of emergency, a quick transfer may be organised to Murter, where there is an out-patient department.
