Location description from owner

The Dalmatia region

The island of Kolocep lies at a distance of 1 km from the closest point on the mainland and about the same distance from the peninsula of Lapad, further east towards the city of Dubrovnik itself. The port of Dubrovnik, ( “Gruž” ) is situated at the base of a bay on the other side of Lapad, requiring a 5 km journey by boat to the island. The island can be reached by regular ferry service “Jadrolinija” – the “Postira” and “Premuda” services connect the Elaphiti Islands several times throughout the day. It is a 20 minute boat ride from one port to the other (Dubrovnik–Kolocep) by ferry, or 10 minutes by Water taxi.

Kolocep Island

Only 20 minutes by boat from Dubrovnik, Kolocep Island is the closest of the Elafiti Islands. It's not even 2.5sq km with a population of 148 so we're not talking "bustling metropolis" here. Most of the island is dense forest interspersed with vineyards, olive groves and citruses. The only two settlements on the island are Gornje and Donje Celo and each has a small beach. There's also a small naturist beach. Kolocep has more than 250 sunny days a year. Its climate is of a moderate Mediterranean type, and due to the isle's indented coastline and small area, the predominant climatic features throughout the island are influenced by the Adriatic. The sea moderates the air temperature considerably keeping the average monthly daytime highs above 10 °C in the winter time and below 27 °C in the summer.

Clear waters surrounding the island range from deep blue to turquoise aqua. The coastline has with a number of hidden coves: the Blue Cave can be accessed swimming from one such cove on the south side of the island. An area off shore where lobsters abound is another one of Kolocep's features.

The islands flora includes stands of tall pine and olive groves.

“Relaxation on car free island. Perfect for kids!”

Reviewed 10 Nov 2013

It's rare to find such a peaceful and relaxing place without having to travel off the beaten track..in August! Tonci and Paulina were our very generous and warm hosts who made us and our two young children (8 and 5 years old) feel right at home. The apartment was clean and comfortable with very good beds. There is a terrace where you can while away your afternoons, with a breathtaking view of the bay. The sandy beach is a bonus and quite rare in Croatia. It is never crowded and there were times when we were very few on the beach. The island is car free, but is easily reached from Dubrovnik. We drove and left our car (gladly) for 8 days in Dubrovnik (which Tonci arranged for us.) There are lovely walks around the island and great opportunities for island hopping. Highly recommended!

“Fantastic apartment, fantastic island, fantastic hosts, fantastic holiday”

Reviewed 14 Jul 2013

We spent 10 days here in this lovely apartment, overlooking the bay on the island of kolocep. The holiday was fantastic - kolocep is a very calm, peaceful and tranquil island, ideal for a relaxing holiday. We were met at the ferry port in Dubrovnik by the owner, Tonci, who took us over to island. Tonci and Paulina were the perfect hosts. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They invited us for drinks and Pauline cooked us a lovely lunch on our last day. We have 2 young daughters, aged 6 and 3 who absolutely loved them. The apartment was perfect for the 4 of us - it is very clean, well stocked and had a great terrace overlooking the bay. We spent most days on the sandy beach which is perfect for kids and travelled to another island for a day as well as Dubrovnik on the regular ferry service. Snorkelling is a must as is a walk around the many treks and trails across the island. Sunsets are fantastic! The island has a couple of bars which also serve lovely food and there is nothing more perfect than sitting with a glass of wine watching the sunset. Overall the perfect holiday!! Thank you Tonci and Paulina!!

The cottage was very idyllic with everything you could ask for including a fantastic view of the bay and mountains of the mainland. Two lovely terraces for shade or sun. The owners were very welcoming and left us some delicious home grown salad. The bay was great to swim in and some lovely walks around the island. Just perfect!

“We couldn't have asked for a more relaxing holiday”

Reviewed 20 Jun 2013

We spent a week here in June and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The apartment is very comfortable, with a lovely terrace from which to enjoy an excellent view of Kolocep harbour - we enjoyed coffee here each morning. The island is lovely to walk around, and we stumbled across some amazing views. Despite the ferry only taking 30 mins, we ended up not going back very frequently to Dubrovnik as we had planned as we liked the peace of the island so much - make sure you take plenty of provisions if you think you might do the same! Tonci and Paulina are lovely hosts, they very kindly gave us lunch one day, which we enjoyed a lot, and they made us feel very at home - we loved the fresh flowers Paulina cut for us from the garden. We couldn't have asked for a more relaxing holiday.

“Ticked all the boxes..fantastic island,lovely apartment,welcoming hosts.”

This year we decided to take a quiter approach to our holidays and booked this apartment on Kolocep....looking for a chilled and sunny time. This Island and apartment does not disappoint! Tonci and Paulina (owners) were perfect hosts and on the evening when they cooked us a fresh fish bbq extremely good company. The apartment has everything necessary..down to napkins! The ferry is a short trip and so the 7a.m ferry to get to the fish market in Gruz was a joy to make!! Would suggest this and the fruit market for definite..brill. Also large supermarkets close to hand for other provisions..shop on the Island not overly stocked! The walking on the Island is superb..beatuful pine woods, fantastic views, colourful butterflies and some amazing little beaches. The sandy beach is delightful and very calm and shallow...perfect for children. All in all one of our best holidays..thank you Tonci and Paulina.
