Description from owner

Description

Villa Angeliki is ideally located on a hillside just 500m from the centre of Kokkino Horio village with its tangle of higgledy-piggledy lanes with traditional white washed houses, fantastic (and very friendly) family run taverna, and well stocked mini market, and only 4km from the seaside village of Almyrida where the white sand beaches shelve gently into the crystal clear aquamarine water and are encircled by a number of excellent beachfront tavernas and cafes. Thanks to its elevated position the villa enjoys cooling summer breezes that come in off the bay, and panoramic views over the village rooftops to the sparkling blue sea and the majestic white mountains.

Villa Angeliki is excellent value accommodation that offers a lovely escape from the crowds whilst being perfectly situated for easy forays to the beaches and many amenities in Almyrida or Chania Town, or to the many sites that Crete has to offer.

Both inside and out there is no shortage of space in which to unwind.

Both inside and out there is no shortage of space in which to unwind. The sleeping accommodation lends itself perfectly to larger groups or to families with differing age groups. The lower ground floor is simply furnished and may be best suited to family members who require more privacy, or to children and teenagers who can make as much noise as they like without disturbing their parents. Whilst the villa is superbly priced for large parties during high season when it is always rented with all 3 floors included, our low and mid season prices, when Villa Angeliki can be rented with either 3 or 4 bedrooms, make this property easily accessible to couples and small families who want value for money and effortless access to local amenities and beaches.

Further details indoors

Tasteful furnishings adorn the spacious interiors that total 204m2 when the 84m2 lower ground level is included. Flowing easily from one room to the next the villa has an easy and welcoming atmosphere and is well suited to relaxed summer living. Villa Angeliki (which means "angelic" in Greek) was built in 2005 and combines traditional Cretan cypress wood doors, windows and shutters with many modern comforts. To ensure a completely stress-free holiday, the thoughtful owners have equipped the villa with 2 TV's, a DVD player, a stereo with a CD player, a cooker, a large fridge/freezer, a microwave, a coffee machine, a kettle, a toaster, a full kitchen inventory including place settings for 10, a washing machine, and air conditioning units in the 3 upstairs bedrooms. The lower ground floor stays naturally cool and is equipped with fans. The a/c units also double up as heaters, and there is a wood-burning stove in the living room for the cooler nights early and late season. There is solar powered hot water or a back-up immersion heater, a large gated, private parking area, and a barbeque. Even your entertainment needs have been catered for with a selection of books, CD's, and DVD's in the living room. WIFI internet access is available but air-time cards will need to be purchased locally or from our resort representative.

Further details outdoors

Very well equipped with an ample supply of garden furniture such as tables, chairs, umbrellas and sun-loungers the outside is sure to be the focal point of your holiday enjoyment. The private pool entices you to take a refreshing dip whilst the separate family-friendly and shallow children's section will be much appreciated by younger family members and the less confident swimmers amongst you. The colourful 2600m2 garden has plenty of space for both sun worshippers and for children who like to run around and play. Whilst the lounging area set next to the pool provides a lovely amount of shade if needed. The lower terrace below the pool area has been left completely natural with wild flowers in the spring and rocky outcrops with almond trees, but closer to the villa the garden has been landscaped with gravelled areas and rockeries and is home to a number of typically Mediterranean flowering shrubs including: sweet scented jasmine, morning glory, oleander, cacti, geraniums, callistemon (bottle brush), as well as Washingtonian palms, date palm, olive, peach and pear trees.

Location description from owner

The Chania Prefecture region

Crete has everything you that could possibly want from a holiday: soaring mountains that are snow capped from November to June, many great walking trails including Europe's deepest gorge, ancient archaeological sites and Minoan palaces, quaint villages, sparkling clear blue seas with tavernas serving freshly caught fish, golden beaches, glorious wild flowers in the Spring, and a variety of delicious foods which are all made from healthy home grown produce. As incredible as the island is, it is the Cretan people who will make your holiday truly memorable. Descendants of the Minoan's, one of Europe's earliest civilizations, and shaped by centuries of struggle against oppression, the Cretans are as rugged as the mountains, fiercely independent but passionately friendly. Villa Angeliki is located in the heart of The Apokoronas Region just east of the beautiful town of Chania. With its stunning Venetian harbour, quayside bars and restaurants, what better place to relax and watch the world go by. In the narrow streets behind Chania's harbour you will find tavernas, bars, the famous covered market, and many local shops selling handicrafts, textiles, jewellery and hand made ceramics. Visit 'Leather Lane' for outstanding hand made leather bargains. The climate of Crete is a temperate Mediterranean climate and the weather is characterized by long hot, dry summers and mild winters. The Spring can be warm and sunny during the day but still have cooler evenings and is perfect for walking, birdwatching and looking at the wild flowers. All in all Crete is absolutely perfect for your Villa holiday.

Kokkino Chorio

Kokkino Horio taverna and mini market are only 6 minutes walk from Villa Angeliki. The family-run taverna is shaded by weeping willow trees, has delicious food, and very friendly owners (Zacharias and his son Yiannis) who know everything about the village and the surrounding area. During the summer months there are occasional live Cretan music nights at the taverna, which are a lot of fun. Kokkino Horio (“red village” in Greek) was the main village set for the film “Zorba the Greek”. There are little whitewashed houses and narrow streets that wind around the village centre. At the village kafenion you can find older locals who were used as extras in the film, and who will happily show you photos of themselves with Anthony Quinn. Just 10 minutes walk from the villa is the famous glass blowing workshop. Here you can eat at the organic taverna or watch recycled glass being blown in the traditional manner into amazingly beautiful products including lampshades, ornaments, decanters, plates and bowls. There is a third taverna with lovely views on the outskirts of the village. Villa Angeliki is just 8 minutes by car to the lovely village of Almyrida which is built around a crescent shaped sandy beach. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are 7 excellent tavernas, 10 café/bars, 2 bakeries, a wonderful jewellery shop, 5 mini-markets, 3 gift shops,a pharmacy, an organic fruit and vegetable shop with a deli counter, a butcher's shop, and an off-license. Also in Almyrida there is a scuba diving office, a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans, and Villas Crete Holidays for tourist information, boat trips, horse riding, guided walking tours, and guided coach excursions. A few minutes by car from the villa, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio, lace makers in Gavalohori, and silk makers in Kalamitsi. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 45 minutes away by car.Cooking classes and wine tasting set at a local winery can be taken by those of you who are interested. Guided walks led by experts in mountaineering and/or flora and fauna can also be arranged. For those of you who prefer to venture out on your own, a copy of the guide book "Crete on the Road" by Frankie Miles comes with every villa. The book contains detailed directions to many well known and hidden sites, opening times and prices for all attractions, taverna recommendations, and the only existing map of the National Highway showing the exits and entrances.
