The Surat Thani Province region
Koh Tao is translated as "Turtle Island" - a scuba diving paradise, with golden sandy beaches and secluded bays, it istruly one of Southern Thailand's true tropical island escapes.
The island's waters are well known to be far superior than its neighbouring islands - Koh Samui and Koh Phangan. The beaches around the island are some if the finest in the south, particularly Sairee Beach.
Koh Tao is very lucky due to its centralised gulf location and generally has a great tropical climate most of the year.
The best diving in the Gulf of Thailand is here in Koh Tao. There are a number of sheltered sandy bays which provide the perfect depths for novice divers, while the more adventurously inclined can visit deeper sites and perhaps even live the diver's dream of spotting a whale shark or two.
Koh Tao is home to long range of excellent restaurants that offer culinary delights from all over the world often in a very stylish and creative ambiance.
You can choose from Italian, Mexican, Indian, French, Japanese, German, or Chinese cuisine. Tapas, kebab, pizza, imported steaks, homemade pasta, fresh bread & pastry, as well as draught beers, imported wines & fabulous cocktails. A gourmets paradise!
Fresh markets offer all sorts of tropical fruit and also prepare them on the spot to a shake of your choice.
With all this foreign dishes on offer you should never forget where you are. Authentic Thai food can be sampled everywhere, from simple street stalls & nightly grills to classy Thai kitchens and breezy Seafood restaurants serving the catch of the day!
Koh Tao has always had some amazing rock formations just right for climbing.
More than half the roads on the far side of Koh Tao are unpaved. Just miles and miles of unpaved, untrafficked, and rugged terrain, just waiting to be raced over with a tough mountain bike. There are several places on the island where you can rent a mountain bike starting at just 150 bhat per day.
For a bit more juice, try the same trails on a 250cc dirt bike. Reach some of the most inaccessible places on the island and give yourself a thrill while doing it.
Scuba diving is still very much the largest activity on the island, but now you can also take a breath hold diving course where they guarantee you can learn to dive 30 meters deep without a tank - just on a single breath of air!! There are 2 & 3 day courses starting every other day.
Koh Tao can offer you aqua-based adrenalin in the form of wind surfing, water skiing, wake boarding, kayaking & snorkeling. You can hire a private longtail boat to take you to any number of secluded bays and beaches scattered all around the island, or sign up for chartered trips which leave daily and hit all the popular spots!
THAI COOKING CLASSES
There are several places on the island you can take a cooking class where you will do everything from going to the local market to buy the ingredients to cleaning, splicing & dicing, cooking & the real secret spicing!
Koh Tao has some of the most amazingly tranquil spots for yoga. There are several yoga centers on the island in a variety of settings from mountain retreats to deserted sandy beaches.
MUAY THAI KICK BOXING
Thai Kick Boxing (known as Muay Thai) is a sport that is quickly gaining popularity around the world. The Island Muay Thai training center trains fighters from first-timers to pros. Some of the staff have competed and won nationally. They can show you some basic moves in a one-day training session, or get you fight ready in a month. They have matches about every 3 weeks which usually draws a huge crowd of locals on fight night.
MINI GOLF AND BOWLING
The most unique bowling alley in Thailand. Games are played on hand-built lanes with regulation pins. Your score is relayed by the friendly guy at the end of the lane who signals your score with one hand as he sets the pins back up with the other. Maybe the only manual bowling alley in the country. Too classic to miss. Next to the bowling alley is an 18-hole miniature golf course, perfect for all.
Sairee beach is the heart of Koh Tao's nightlife. There are palm fringed beach bars along Sairee beach, all located right on the waters edge and are the perfect place to grab a cocktail or post-dive beer and watch the sun go down. Sairee beach faces west and has magnificent sunsets year-round. Theres a variety of late night clubs which also stay open late, some even until the sun comes up.

"Un meravoglioso soggiorno in un isola d'incanto"
La villa ha effettivamente una vista stupenda, purtroppo non é agevolissimo raggiungerla a causa di ripide salite, ma ne vale assolutamente la pena. La villa é bellissima e pulitissima, inoltre il referente era sempre disponibile per ogni piccolo bisogo (ci ha fornito un barbeque e dellenpentole in un lampo). L'isola é sicuramente una delle piú belle.

"Great home, warm hosts, and exceptional view"
Stayed with a group of four friends for four days and four nights. Lovely home with an incredible view and very comfortable accomodations. Pickup and drop off were taken care of, local phones provided, and the fridge was even lightly stocked when we got there. Any issues and Nan (very sweet hostess) was only a phone call away. The house slept four of us very comfortably (could probaly sleep double that, particulary if you were traveling with couples). Refreshing pool (which you'll need after walking up the hill to get to the home) overlooking a hilltop panorama of the island (could be one of the best views on the island). Some might find the hilltop location a bit out of the way (it's about a 10 minute cab ride up the hill from town, or a 30 minute walk), but for those of you looking for a little fitness on your vacation it's great (it's a very steep hill, so definitely not for the faint of heart). I personally walked down the hill every morning to a great yoga studio (Ocean Sound Yoga Studio I believe), such a nice way to start the day! I'd stick with the taxi driver Nan provides you with as negotiating in town with the local taxis is a bit of a hassle, particularly late at night. I walked most nights, but may be a little daunting for some as it is quite dark. Overall - highly recommend this lovely villa. It's a great value, Nan and Ricki set up anything you need, and you'll truly feel at home during your stay in beautiful Koh Tao.

"Spectacular view and a great villa"
We were a group of 8 friends and arrived to Koh Tao with a ferry from Chumpon. Pick-up from the peer was complimentary and the friendly driver was waiting for us at the peer with a name sign. The welcome to the Villa was also very warm and Villa and the view were spectacular. There was a Thai lady (whose name I can't recall) who welcomed us and we felt very welcome right away. She was very helpful during our whole stay and even brought us some Scandinavian snacks one day since the owner is Swedish and we are from Finland. She gave us couple of local phones so we could reach her or the owner who was away at the time. The terrace was a great place to relax in the sun and dip in to the pool now and then. The sunset from the terrace was also great since it faces west, so be sure not to miss it. There was 3 bedrooms and couple of beds in the gallery upstairs. It accommodated 8 people very well. There was also sufficient kitchen, but since the there is a lot of great restaurants to try on the island, we mainly used it to make breakfast. Even though its about 5 min ride away from Sairee beach, its easily worth it! We rented motorbikes for transportation which were very cheap if you just dare to drive there. There isn't that much traffic on the island so it's not too bad. The same driver that picked us up from the peer gave us his card and was our regular driver 24/7 when we went out in the night and wanted to have a drink or two. He charged 400 baht one-way which was not too bad since there was 8 of us. The stay in Best View Villa was the highlight of our trip and we can recommend it to anyone!
