The Trat Province region
Koh Mak is a beautiful tropical island in Thailand with white sands and stunning clear blue water. It's the perfect place for a relaxing holiday. Koh Mak is located in the National Marine Park in Eastern Thailand and is the biggest privately owned island in Thailand.
The island is about 16km² and is on of the safest places in the world. Koh Mak is a relative new island destination and is still a well kept secret for most travelers. You will not find a Pattaya atmosphere, as there is virtually no nightlife on Koh Mak. The island is about 40 Km away from the mainland so it will always be kept well away from the crowds.
There is plenty to see on Koh Mak with it's 10,000 palm trees, a Buddhist temple, tree fishing villages, a health center, a primary school, over 20 resorts, a few shops and restaurants.
Koh Mak has been attracting filmmakers who are looking for an beautiful and unspoiled tropical location and was also added to the top ten beaches in the world list of the British newspaper the Sunday Times.
Koh Mak is a quiet place for people who are looking for a relaxing holiday. The island has beautiful nature which is perfect for hiking trips. There is also a diving school where you can book diving and snorkeling trips. The nearby Marine Park has the best selection of marine life Thailand has to offer.
Other activities include windsurfing, padding, swimming or trying one of the new bicycle tracks around the island. There are also plenty of guided tour boot trips to visit neighboring islands. You can of course chose to relax in a hammock or get a traditional Thai massage.
The property nestles charmingly on the ridge of a small hill between two beautiful beaches, close enough to be convenient for restaurants, shops and the two best beaches on the island, but far enough away to enjoy the tranquility and refreshing breeze from the Gulf of Thailand. The message is clear: You are here to relax and not be disturbed by the masses. Visit our romantic serene hillside restaurant and our small romantic pool. The Good Time Resort includes a little library with a communal office available along with free WIFI.
Activities include scuba diving and snorkeling – there are two dive shops on the island. You can enjoy a traditional Thai massage on the beach or at the Good Time Resort, visit the Koh Mak Museum and discover the history of the island, or learn Thai cooking with "Smile Cooking School". Boats are easily hired to take you to some of the many other unspoiled islands nearby. In the high season, there is a regular speedboat service to the neighboring island of Koh Chang, the second biggest in Thailand.
Koh Mak has only three seasons defining its climate and they are as varied as the four seasons found in less temperate climes. Between the months of March and May the island is in the throes of its hot season. Clear blue skies with very little rain and even less wind mean high temperatures and an abundance of slowing down to deal with the heat. Moving from June to October the south west monsoon blows. Temperatures remain warm and the winds of the south west monsoon bring some relief from higher temperatures but with intermittent rain showers that can be sudden and dramatic yet rarely last longer than an hour. The final change in climate on Koh Mak comes between November and February, locally known as the cool season, when the north east monsoon blows slightly cooler air with very little rain if any at all.
Koh Mak is a relatively small island covering an area of 16km2
Away from the two main beaches on the northwest and northeast coasts, the scenery mainly compromises rubber and coconut plantations.
Most visitors discover the island by foot, bicycle or on a rental motorbike – there are very few cars on the island as there are very few roads. The island has 24 hour electricity.
No matter where you stay -you are usually within walking or cycling distance of wherever you want to go.
Guest will have access to the pool and library (about 300-400 m away). Also the open office with WiFi is open for guests. At our front desk we help you to arrange your trip to the next destination.
Koh Mak is a remote little island with beautiful beaches and it is easy to move around the island and discover most of it. You can walk or rent a motorbike for just 250 Baht per day. From Koh Mak it is easy to hope to KOH KOOD and Koh Chang.
To most places you can walk or just rent a bike.
If you wish, we certainly help you to organize a private pick-up service with a limousine (1-3 persons = 4.000 Baht) or minibus (1-5 persons =5.000 Baht). The driver pick you up at 10.30 at the hotel or airport.
