Description

This c. 1800 Maine Cape Cod-style home has been lovingly restored to an adorable and comfortable vacation home. A fully-provisioned kitchen (dishwasher, microwave, Keurig, 12-cup coffee maker, 2 ovens, new cookware), a brand new renovated bathroom and many recent updates throughout the house make this home a peaceful retreat. The dining room table provides seating for 6. Bedroom #1 has a king bed that can separate into 2 twins upon request. Bedroom #2 has a plush platform king that can convert to a single twin daybed (not a squeaky trundle). There are 2 roll-away portable twin beds with quality memory foam mattresses (firm traditional-sized twin mattresses meant for adults, not saggy little cot mattresses). One is set up in an alcove in the living room as a daybed for extra seating. The other can be put in either bedroom. The yard is completely fenced. Window A/C in each bedroom and downstairs. This home is on the coastal route across the street from the Piscataqua River and offers pocket views of the water. Smell the salt air with your morning coffee! Wake up to hear the Star Spangled Banner at the nation's oldest shipyard!

Other things to note

There is one bathroom in this house and it's up a rather steep flight of stairs on the second floor. There are stairs to get into the house through both the garage and front door. This house was built in 1800 and though updated, still has the character of a house built in a bygone era (narrow doorways, steep winding stairs, garage space we only use for storage or as giant mudroom). The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard blows its whistle at 7:30 am, noon and 3:30 pm on weekdays to alert shift change. Don't worry, it's normal, nostalgic and we look forward to hearing it! It reminds me a bit of the old fog horns. This is something you'll hear all over the seacoast area, not just in this home.

Getting around

There is no public transportation in Kittery. There is a trolley system in Portsmouth and surrounding towns in NH. You can rent bikes and scooters in Portsmouth. We do have Uber and several private taxi and limo services in the area. Portsmouth has a Greyhound and C&J bus station and Amtrack has a train station in nearby Dover. Portsmouth offers ferry service to the Isles of Shoals, one of our favorite places! We highly recommend scheduling a boat trip as part of your visit.

Interaction with guest

We are available in person after 6 pm on weekdays, anytime on weekends and by phone/text any other time. Guests will generally let themselves into the home and acquaint themselves unless other arrangements are made. House instructions are available online and inside the home.

How do damage deposits work?
