A little further, but within easy reach for a day trip, the Scottish Borders with its Reiver history and World Heritage Site of Hadrians Wall which stretches from Carlisle to Newcastle.

King's Meaburn

Kings Meaburn nestles in the Lyvennet river Valley which is part of Englands SSSI,s (Site of Special Scientific Interest). Of special interest to fly fishers is our private, complimentary, double bank fishing for wild brown trout on the river Lyvennet which is on our doorstep. You can expect to see a wealth of wildlife, Kingfishers, Dippers, Heron, red squirrels, foxes and Otters.

Kings Meaburn lies 5 miles west of Appleby, the old county town of Westmorland and 10 miles south of Penrith, both made famous by the Elizabethan, Lady Clifford. While visiting Appleby you can expand the exploring and enjoy the picturesque journey on the Carlisle - Settle railway line.

After a busy day the White Horse pub in the village offers good pub food and local beers.
