Location description from owner

The Scotland region

You'd come to Perthshire, particulalry from Dunkeld northwards, for the scenary, the outdoors, the history & the plentiful suply of visitor attractions. We're only 1 1/2 hours drive from Edinburgh (less from the airport) and Glasgow and yet this is Highland country. Our local hill, Ben y Vrackie, is only just short of Munro status (3,000 ft) and the Beinn a' Ghlo (3 Munro's) & Schiehallion are both wonderful mountains and are above 3,000 feet. There are also limitless low level walking options too, for the tree lovers and those occasional poor weather days. Cycling is great too, both on & off road. Every May Pitlochry hosts the popular Etape Caledonia which sees thousands (literally) of road cyclists partake in a rare 'closed road' cycle race for both the serious & the recreational cyclists. Off-road cycling is abundant too, with miles & miles of land rover tracks to explore and the famous (in MTB circles) Beinn a' Ghlo round rideable from the door.
There's lots to do too. For example: white water rafting, bungee jumping, highland jeep safaris, castle visits, horse riding, golf and 3 of Scotland's 4 ski resorts are all with about an hours drive.

Killiecrankie

The Pitlochry & Blair Atholl area is a great place to while away a week. Relaxing walks, interesting attractions, great restaurants & coffee shops, and even some good shopping (particualry The House of Bruar).

“Excellent highland retreat”

Reviewed 9 Mar 2016

Very comfortable cottage with great attention to detail. No shortage of logs and coal. Comprehensive information and discrete instructions . We usually avoid cottages for 2 -past experience has found them to be pokey and claustrophobic. Not here-really spacious and light . Wonderful views . We were made very welcome and greatly appreciated gifts of local chocolate, coffee and honey. No hesitation in recommending and would plan to return at some stage in the future.

“The Ultimate in Relaxation and Comfort”

Reviewed 9 Nov 2015

My wife and I go away at this time every year to relax, unwind and get away from it all so we look for somewhere out of the way. The Cowshed did not dissapoint. It's set away off the main road up a good quality single track road but is still within 10-15 minutes driving distance from Pitlochry in one direction and House of Bruar in the other. We were met by Steve who showed us around the property and explained how everything worked and would be on-site most of the time should we need to ask him anything. The layout of the Cowshed is exactly how we like it. The kitchen, dining and living areas are in one very large room. The kitchen is a perfect size for two people and we never felt crowded if we were both preparing food. The living room area features big comfy couches and a single seater and right in the middle on one wall is the wood burner which we also look for when we go away at this time of year. We also loved the big patio doors leading out to a raised decked area with seating for two which was fantastic for just admiring the view. The bedroom featured a big comfy bed and there was plenty of hanging and storage space. The bathroom was spacious and had a nice big shower. This is one of, if not the best, property we have stayed in for this type of holiday in terms of comfort, space, view and being looked after. The big thing we liked is the owners haven't gone for the slightly messy rustic look which is common in these type of properties but instead have gone for very solid wood which is clearly of high quality, as is the whole property. We will definitely be back

“Great place for a wee calf!”

Reviewed 11 Oct 2015

As a consequence of what others have already written on these pages, we had high expectations of the Cow Shed. But despite this, we were still overwhelmed by the sheer quality of our accommodation. The decor and fittings are unique, thanks to the imaginative use of recycled materials. Do not think that second hand means second rate; this accommodation is first class, with every comfort catered for. And none of those niggles that you invariably experience when self catering......tea, coffee, salt, pepper, toilet roll, tin foil, etc, etc all in copious supplies as well as a generous welcome pack boasting the best of local produce. Our hosts, Steve and Kirsty not only have incredible vision, but also the skills to turn that vision into reality. They have a total understanding of what their guests deserve as standard and what little extras make the difference between good and great. They are there if you need or want them to be and unobtrusive if you don't. They are friendly, welcoming and justifiably passionate about what they have done with the two Cow Sheds and Lettoch Beag; it was a privilege to be their guests. Location is stunning, with lovely walks from the door or a short drive away. If you're not feeling so energetic, you can just sit on the decking or by the picture window and admire the stunning view. Once upon a time, this converted byre would have been a great place to raise a wee calf; for us, it was simply the perfect spot for our week off. If you can find a better place to stay in Highland Perthshire, please let me know, because I reckon the Cow Shed would take some beating!

“Superb accomodation with fantastic views”

Reviewed 8 Sep 2015

The Cow Shed is a great find. It is really comfortable and has all the mod cons we were used to at home. The wood burner is brilliant with all the wood supplied by the owners Steve and Kirstie who cannot do enough for their guests. The scones and honey were lovely. The area around Pitlochry is beautiful with exceptional scenery and plenty of history. We will definitely be back.

“A little piece of heaven”

Fantastic cottage, well equipped and very comfortable. Pitlochry is just a short drive away for supplies to eat in or plenty places to eat out. Great walks straight from the door. Uncovered some hidden gems. Roll on next summer.

“Perfect idyllic retreat”

Reviewed 25 Jul 2015

My husband and I spent a week at The Cow Shed, our first visit to this area of Scotland - we loved it. The accommodation is first class, spotlessly clean, modern, comfortable furniture and the most luxurious bed for a fantastic nights sleep after walking in the beautiful Scottish countryside. There are walks from the Cow Shed or many a short drive away. The views from the Cow Shed are stunning, a real retreat from the hassle of working life. Our hosts were very friendly and welcoming, on hand if required yet unobtrusive. We would recommend The Cow Shed and definitely hope to return.

“A brilliant week at The Cow Shed”

Reviewed 31 Mar 2015

We've just spent a brilliant week at The Cow Shed. It has everything you could wish for for a perfect holiday: super comfy sofas that you can sink into after a day of exploring; a huge bed in a wonderfully warm bedroom (no street lights or traffic noise to disturb your sleep); luxurious furnishings; great location and superb views. The Cow Shed is an excellent base for exploring the highlands: you're only a 80 minute drive away from the Cairngorm funicular station and 90 minutes from the Nevis Range gondola for amazing views. We spent a day driving around the outskirts of the Cairngorms National Park (A93 up to Ballater, across on the A939 to Tomintoul and Grantown On Spey then back down on the A95/A9), we can highly recommend this for spectacular scenery and pretty towns. Steve & Kirsty have created the perfect holiday home and are wonderful hosts, so stay at The Cow Shed - you won't be disappointed.
