Description from owner

Description

The property is a well-built modern split-level house overlooking Lough Derg and the River Shannon on the Ballina, Tipperary side of the lovely twin towns of Ballina-Killaloe with magnificent views.

Would suit up to 6 adults or 4 adults and 4 children.

It has been thoughtfully fitted out as our family holiday home and we hope others choose to enjoy it as much as we do! It is very family friendly and is well equipped with equipment for babies and young children. There are plenty of toys and books and there's also a swing set in the fenced-in garden.

Relax in the 2-person steam room or indoor jacuzzi. Easy access to all of Limerick, Clare and Tipperary.

The Province of Munster region

Ballina-Killaloe is in the heart of the Shannon region with easy access to historic Limerick & beautiful Co. Clare with its spectacular West Coast including the Cliffs of Moher, Lahinch, Liscannor and many more. The Burren is a unique part of the world with its awe-inspiring limestone terrain.

Co. Tipperary is rich in heritage too with castles and cathedrals dotted here there and everywhere!

The temperate climate is perfect for touring. Ballina-Killaloe is only a short trip (30 mins) to the ancestral home of Barack Obama in Moneygall, Co. Offaly.

Killaloe

Killaloe has a beautiful Cathedral, and the former lock keeper's house by the thirteen-arched stone bridge has been rebuilt as the Brian Boru Heritage Centre. Here you will find all the information you need about the locality and about Brian Boru the last high King of Ireland, who ruled from this area a 1,000 years ago.

We recommend a trip to Brian Boru's Fort, a mystical place.

The Brian Boru Festival is on at the end of June usually and is always great craic!

Killaloe has several good restaurants and lots of pubs, several of which have outdoor seating for when the sun shines.

Lough Derg, which covers 32,000 acres, is one of the largest and most beautiful lakes in Ireland. Low hills and mountains with a shoreline of marvellous inlets and bays surround it. Sheltered narrow twisting roads surround the lake with intermittent villages, where one can stop off and explore the many historic sites and places of interest around the lakeshore.

The Lough Derg Way is a 64km walking route that starts in Limerick and follows the River Shannon and its canals northwestwards to the lake port of Dromineer on Lough Derg. Along the way the route passes through the hamlet of Clonlara, the village of O’Briensbridge and the ancient town of Killaloe, where interested walkers will want to linger at St Flannan’s Cathedral with its early Christian oratory. Lakeside and waterside sections of the route offer fine views.

There is also a cycle route that circles the entire lake.

Villages in East Clare like Scarriff and Mountshannon are lovely to visit and a family favourite is the Scarriff festival on the August Bank Holiday Weekend (30th July - 2nd August).

“Everything you could want in the house and a great view”

Reviewed 22 Jul 2013

The house was large and comfortable, everything that we thought matters when you rent a cottage/house was right; lots of space, comfortable mattresses, loads of bathrooms, good showers, extremely well equipped kitchen, all the things you forgot to bring, and on top of that, a lovely view of the loch. We had great weather and spent much of our time on the balcony, relaxing and admiring the view.

Thanks so much for your kind remarks. So glad you enjoyed your stay and that everything in the house suited you. I can identify with all you have said as we have just spent our 2-week family holiday there ourselves. Thanks again, Niamh (homeowner)

I will never forget this lovely holiday home and yes it is truly tranquil in Killaloe. The ladies really enjoyed the area and Lough Derg, the warm sun, the beautiful deck and living room, lovely modern kitchen and comfortable bedrooms. Each room had it's own shower access as well, wonderful ! We especially loved that Ireland has amazing food and is also so gluten free ! Our trip was spectacular and we saw many lovely sites and had the perfect home base. Cliffs of Moher, The Burren, Crag Cave, Bunratty Castle, Limerick, Galway, Clonmacnoise, Holy Island, Killarney National Park, Adare Castle, all so breathtakingly lovely. We enjoyed The Wooden Spoon, The Cherry Tree and Wood Brothers for dining. We couldn't have been happier. Thanks to Niamh !

Thanks so much for the glowing review! I'm so glad you and the other ladies enjoyed your trip to Ireland and that your stay in our house added to your enjoyment. You certainly made great use of it as a base to tour those great sights. Thanks again. Niamh

This is a fantastic house with amazing amount of space. The good size bedrooms and bathrooms helped to ensure everybody had their own space and privacy. The view is just amazing and to sit on the balcony and drink wine watching the sun go down was an enjoyable experience. The steam room and used and enjoyed - Great house to have a family holiday

“EXCELLENT PROPERTY WITH AMAZING VIEWS OF LOUGH DERG”

Reviewed 18 Aug 2012

We really enjoyed our stay in Killaloe The House had everything we needed a real home from home. Niamh's arrangements regarding house rental all ran very smoothly and she kept in touch with us very often regarding everything. The view from the Lounge was amazing my elderly Mother who was with us loved to sit and look out at the view. All in All i would recommend htis house and the lovely little village at Ballina and Killaloe.

“The perfect place for a relaxing and simple break, would love to be there now !”

Reviewed 8 Jul 2012

The house was lovely and comfortable, very relaxing and we settled in so quickly. The view from the lounge was amazing and was the perfect picture of lovely Ireland. The kitchen was so well equipped with a lovely large table for us all to eat. The 4 bathrooms were very welcome, the TV room/den was perfect to hide away in with the great selection of DVD's and 4 bedrooms were ideal for the family. My Grandaughter (16 months) loved the playroom with such a lovely selection of toys and she loved running in the garden from the decking area. The wireless internet was great, enabling the youngsters to continue their comminications ! The weather was not good enough to sit out, but table and chairs provided for sitting outside. In fact everything was well thought out, with plenty of thought to detail. I was more than happy to bring in my share of basics such as toilet paper, washing powder, tin foil etc, but what a lovely touch for the owner to have provided many many extras that I have never experienced before in a rental home. We have visited Ireland many times before and stayed with family, this time we needed a house large enough for all of us as we were all over for a family celebration. It was perfect and we would love to come again. We had visited Killaloe and Ballina before but staying here gave us a much better flavour of the area. The locals in the town were very friendly, we had lunch (and discovered their lovely cakes) at the Wooden Spoon, had a lovely meal at the Chinese restaurant and found that the Super Valu supermarket were very good. No need to travel further for supermarkets. Further afield we enjoyed Finnegans restaurant at Junction 28 of the M7, Pa McGraths in Boher for lunch and also Hayes restaurant in Cappamore for a lovely Sunday lunch.

“Highly recommend this beautiful, spacious house”

Our family of five (children 11,9, and 6) spent a week staying in this lovely home. Niamh was always a pleasure to work with; prompt and helpful in every way. She refunded the security deposit back to us very quickly and everything went smoothly with the administrative details. The house is very quiet, peaceful and well-decorated in a nice neighborhood. Our kids really enjoyed the playroom and all the board games, so much so that my 6-year old did not want to leave "our Ireland house." The kitchen in particular is very well-stocked with anything and everything you could ever need. We roasted a chicken in the convection oven on Easter, which turned out delicious. The view is spectacular in every kind of weather, which of course, we experienced (no snow, though!). Killaloe and Ballina are nice towns to spend time in. The house is convenient to supermarkets, restaurants, pubs, churches, and of course the beautiful lake.

“Lakeside Chill”

Reviewed 23 Jan 2012

Spacious house, comfortable, clean and quiet. The youngest of our family group was 5 and the oldest was 79 and we were all well catered for, with enough room for privacy and large dining and sitting areas for us all to come together. The views were fab from the house. Good location for local touring of this lovely lakeside area . Top tip: Don't bother lugging food with you - the local Killaloe Supervalu has everything you need, with an excellent butchers. The chicken was superb - we made sure to take some home with us.

“Really spacious and clean with a great kitchen and a view to die for”

Reviewed 22 Jan 2012

We wanted a relaxing and fun family holiday and we struck gold with this property in Ballina/Killaloe. We stayed for a week in August and the house surpassed our expectations. It was really roomy and clean. The decor and furniture added to the relaxed ambience and the beds were very comforable. But it was the kitchen that we liked the most. It was fully equipped with every mod con. The meat from the local butcher in Supervalu is delicous so we had some very tasty dinners! There is a great big window in the living room and you can sit and watch the boats go by on the Shannon as the sun sets. There is plenty to do in the area and some lovely day trips to be had. The owner Niamh very kindly gave us her recommendations for kids based activities which she does with her own family. All in all a brill holiday and great value for money.
