“Perfect holiday, lovely chalet, everything we could have wanted!”

Reviewed 10 Jun 2013

When we arrived, the chalet was in a cute location and had everything we wanted. It was very homely and beautifully decorated with lovely accessories making it the perfect place for a holiday. The location was great, a small drive away from beaches and shops and pleasant walks. We visited the Eden project which is just over an hours drive, Bude (which has some lovely shops), summerlease beach and sandymouth beach, Tintagel (stunning place for walks), and Boscastle which is a cute place to drive through. The chalet was spotless and very tidy and had everything we expected. There were many maps and things to read in the chalet that helped us decide where to visit which came in useful when we got stuck in planning our day. The manor is just round the corner which has a sports bit which we didn't use and other bits there, and also has a bar and you can buy the electric cards from there too. Everyone there was really friendly helping us out finding somewhere to eat as we didn't realise the shops would be shut at 8-9pm. There is a lovely chinese just up the road (small drive away) which is great if you get there late and nowhere else is open nearby. In Bude there is a handy morrisons which is open till 9pm which came in handy for buying food. The weather was perfect, making this holiday one to remember, just wish I could have stayed longer in this lovely chalet and to have seen more of Cornwall and Devon. Would definitely recommend and hoping to go back again in the future ! Thank you !

“Everything we needed - home from home”

Reviewed 5 Jun 2013

The chalet was well appointed and clean, with many homely touches. We had already read that there were no bedside lamps, so had gone prepared. We did need help with inserting the electricity card - we were being too genteel in our approach! Plenty of places to visit nearby and good walks.

“Clean, fresh, comfortable accommodation, with every kitchen utensil you might need.”

Reviewed 9 Nov 2012

We had a great time in the chalet in Oct, although some of the mornings were a bit cool, when the heaters with timers came in very handy. The accommodation was clean and fresh and very relaxing. The shower was great plenty of room. The only small thing we missed was bedside lamps as we all like reading in bed.

“A pleasant, clean and convenient base for a holiday”

Reviewed 16 Aug 2012

We did several walks along the coastal paths including one to Clovelly and one from the nearby Sandymouth along to Bude. Also visited Rosemoor Gardens over the border in Devon, a RHS garden which I would rate as possibly the best garden I have seen. The chalet is bright and well decorated with a bit of character. It is also well equipped with good cooker as well as microwave. The shower is a lot larger than you usually get on holiday being about 4ft wide. Our week was pretty dull and cool so we needed some heating in the lounge and we found the heater was excellent. All the equipment looked virtually new. We walked the half mile into Kilkhampton village both to the convenience stores for provisions and to have a meals in the two pubs. Both meals were good. Our food at the London Inn was better cooked than the New Inn, but the latter had the better atmosphere. We also had fish and chips from the shop in the village. The church is quite interesting too. The chalet is in a quiet location less than 100 metres from the Stables Bar & Grill where we had a reasonable meal, but the TVs were a bit of a distraction. About 200 metres away is Penstowe Manor where there is food, activities and entertainment. Infirm people ought to be aware that there is quite a slope from the car park to the chalet.

“A brilliant place to stay”

Reviewed 9 May 2012

Our stay at 7 The Drive was first class and was more than we expected. Very clean and tidy and everything you need for your stay. The staff at the Manor House were very helpful and had all the information we needed on most things. The area being quiet in parkland but with all the amenities near by. Plenty of shops in the village for your supply's so no need to take lots with you, including a pub and a chippy. Supermarkets in Bude only four miles away and things to do and see there as well. You can get to most parts of Cornwall in the day so there is plenty to do and see for everyone. Nothing to complain about in any way we had a brilliant stay. I would recommend the place and area to everyone.

“Tasteful chalet with everything you need for a relaxing holiday!”

Reviewed 23 Apr 2012

A great place to stay - clean, comfy with everything you need to make it a relaxed holiday. Especially appreciated good shower, "slow cooker" and good books! It was easy to find and no hassles with booking & access etc. Good location for the beautiful Cornish coastline.

“suitable for a family, walking, sightseeing or relaxing holiday”

Reviewed 11 Oct 2011

this chalet is clean and decorated to a high standard. it's position is perfect for sightseeing in local area. I would recommend a visit to the Tamar otter and wildlife sanctuary and to the coastline around Boscastle, there is also many hidden gems on Bodmin moor.

“spotless chalet, 5 miles from the beach, and as long as you have a car you can be in most places within an hour.”

Reviewed 28 Jul 2011

We enjoyed our holiday in Cornwall. Horse riding is local which my kids loved at Gooseham Barton Stables. They were great with the kids and took them out on a trek. as well as Tamar Lakes which has a range of watersports at a decent price. The beaches at Bude are lovely and very clean. A car is a definite requirement as places such as the Eden Project are a bit of a trek - taking over an hour to get there. We seemed to be an hour from everywhere, like Exeter, Falmouth, Newquay and Padstow. It was a good base though for Devon and Cornwall and the chalet was clean and had everything we needed. The only thing in lacked was a washing machine, but there is a launderette on site. There is a great pool in Bude next to Morrisons which has a wave machine and flume because the pool on the site is not fantastic. There is a golf range a couple of miles from the chalet which also has mountain boarding which looked fun. Load of pubs nearby to eat in - Bude was a bit lacking for places to eat (apart from coffee shops) but it is a lovely town and there is a lovely walk. Padstow very nice but not a lot to do. I would have liked a cinema to have been a bit closer than an hour away which is always handy for when it rains. All in all, loads to do and see and I would go back.

Sandymouth beach and the surrounding National Trust land are just 3 miles away. Summerleaze and Crooklets beaches are 5 miles away.

““The perfect place to relax and have fun with your family.””

The privately owned chalet is a well equipped, beautifully decorated, place to stay. It is a quiet, clean and comfortable base to explore a stunning coastline, full of gorgeous beaches with rock pools to dip into and dramatic cliff walks. The chalet has the bonus of being approx. 100 metres from Penstowe Manor and its' leisure facilities so when it is too cold to swim in the sea you can swim in a warm pool instead! There is a range of entertainment for the family, including a children's club, but it is also a peaceful, family friendly place where you can just relax and get away from the pressures of life back home. If the weather is not so good Penstowe is also close to a variety of both Cornish and North Devon theme parks and Clovelly is just 20 minutes up the road. Bude is a lovely town with great beaches, shops, restaurants and tea rooms to meander round just 7 minutes drive away. You check in via the owners, not up at Penstowe Manor, hence the excellent check in rating. The house reception staff could be more hospitable and offer a more helpful and friendly service though. We will definitely try to return.

We're so sorry that you feel you received a disappointing service from the Manor House Reception staff. We will be sure to pass your comments on to them as it is in all our interests to make visitors feel welcome.
