“Great cosy cottage”

Reviewed 8 Jan 2017

A lovely cottage with beautiful views from the garden. I visited on my own for week and was warmly welcomed by Joyce who showed me around the cottage and how to use all the appliances. The cottage is in a great location for walking with or without the car. I loved spending nights on the cosy chairs in the living room with the wood burning stove and of course a slice of the delicious choc cake kindly provided by Joyce. Wifi was an added bonus. I would visit again as there are so many things to do and the cottage is a great base.

Owner's reply: I am so glad. you enjoyed your stay you are right the wood burning stove is great on a cold dark night in the winter. We hope you will come again some time you would be very welcome.

“Secluded Location”

Reviewed 4 Dec 2016

A warm, friendly welcome from Joyce. Beautiful homemade chocolate cake, which my husband appreciated. The location is far from the beaten track, much further than we expected. Not a lot of space to put away clothes so we kept most of our things in our suitcases. I also struggled with the microwave so we mostly ate: soup, salads or something on toast. Lovely comfy beds, also comfy chairs in the sitting room. Had the company of a bat in the sitting room one evening! He reappeared again once we had gone to bed. Wi fi was an added bonus. Week took an unexpected boost when we discovered M Sport were testing their new fiesta in the nearby forest. Went over to Dovenby Hall,Cockermouth to visit the factory and museum. Not suitable for most of our friends

Owner's reply: I glad you found the barn comfortable enjoyed your stay. I am very sorry about the bat I can't explain how he got in but not seen since! I am going to solve the problem of clothes storage in the future.

“A perfect holiday hideaway”

Reviewed 19 Apr 2013

We have stayed here many times over the years and are always delighted by this lovely cottage in a quiet and very peaceful location. The cottage has everything you need for a relaxing holiday, including a warm log stove which is great in winter. It is easy to get to Penrith and Keswick which are both about half hour drive, as well as the rest of the Lake District further afield. There are lots of low level walks through the local woods nearby, as well as Blencathra and Carrock Fells for the more adventurous. We are also treated the Mrs Newton's fantastic baking with home made cake on your arrival.

Owner's reply: We have enjoyed having you to stay over the years I know you love the less crowded areas of the Lake District for your walking.
