Description from owner

Description

Catbells is situated in the heart of Keswick. The shops and restaurants are literally two minutes away, and there are also great local walks that can be taken from the house - you don't need to get in the car. The nearest lake is Derwentwater which is five minutes away.

If you fancy venturing a little further, this detached cottage provides an ideal base from which to explore the Northern Lakes. The living space is very spacious and has the benefit of a private patio area and an enclosed shared rear garden and a garage which is ideal for storing bikes.

Further details

We try very hard to keep the house in good condition, and to maintain good relations with our neighbours.

Further details indoors

The house was fully renovated in 2009, and is in good condition. There are two bathrooms - one is ensuite to the main bedroom, and also a good sized and well equipped kitchen. The beds all have quality mattresses (the doubles are memory foam) and the pillows

It's our home too, and we live there when it's not rented out. The décor is traditional with a modern twist and a few designer touches...

Further details outdoors

Keswick can get busy, especially in the summer months. We have a much prized parking space in front of our garage. If you have more than one car, on street parking is free.

We also have a shared garden which is very rare for central Keswick. You're welcome to bring your dog but as the garden is shared with other families, we ask you to make sure you pick up after!

Location description from owner

The England region

The Lake District is world famous for it's mountains and breathtaking scenery. It's a very popular area for visitors - and remains unspoiled because it's a National Park.

Many people try a few of Alfred Wainwright's walks, as described in his popular hand drawn guidebooks. The nearby towns of Cockermouth and Penrith are great to explore, and there are loads of interesting places to visit in the countryside - all of them surrounded by beautiful scenery.

Keswick

Keswick has it's own unique atmosphere for those days when you don't want to get in the car and travel further. There's a great market on Thursdays and Saturdays, good pubs (my favourite is The George), and coffee shops (I like the Square Orange) as well as great restaurants and a really good Booths supermarket. You will eat well in Keswick.

The Theatre by the Lake always has quality productions on stage, and the Keswick Alhambra is a fine local cinema. There are various festivals that take place during the year - film, comedy, beer (!), mountain & various running and sporting events.

“Walking break”

Reviewed 20 Sep 2016

Ideal base location for walks near Keswick . The house is easy walking distance to town for evening eats and drinks. Keswick itself had a good vibe with a good variety of eateries and seemed very dog-friendly. Nice place.

“The perfect place for a trip to Keswick with 5 friends!”

Location is fantastic - 5 minutes from anywhere in town. Equipment in the house is fantastic too. Beds are comfortable, and the interior decoration is charming. The only two minor issue we had were that the top room had an unusual smell, and that the internet didn't work very well for us. However, the landlord did come by to try and fix it.

“Excellent house in an excellent location!”

Our party of 5 (2 related families) thoroughly enjoyed Catbells House! I really appreciated the easy reservation system and on-line payment from USA. The cost was a good value. Very charming home with plenty of space for all of us (including 2 restrooms). Comfortable table, chairs, couches, and outdoor seating. Extremely comfy beds in large rooms! Wonderful kitchen (just stock up at the fantastic Booths grocery), with washer and dryer (yay!!). This house is a great location for walking around Keswick, or driving to Lake Windermere or Castlerigg Standing Stones. A parallel parking spot opens up in front of the house in the evening, if you had to move your car. The open driveway beside the house belongs to a different house. Bring more toilet paper if a large group; soaps & hair dryer are provided. There is a towel rental fee. The Wi-Fi was easy to connect to. Many thanks!!

“A great home from home”

Lovely location, some friends and I booked in for the day beforehand mountain race to get some rest. The house was comfortable, clean and was everything we wanted. I would take my wife and kids there too as it has a wonderful homely feel and it's location for the town and walking is perfect

“Perfect accommodation and very well situated- Fantastic!!!”

Reviewed 1 Apr 2013

I loved this accommodation, it was extremely well equipped and more, in the kitchen we had use of a tumble dryer, washing machine and dishwasher, plenty of pots and pans and even herbs and spices and other things in the kitchen. There is a box of games you can sit and play with the family or friends, we had a cosy night in after a day out biking and found the family fortunes was so funny to play. There is even a classic guitar their if anyone is musical. The decor was fab, I went round the house time and time again to look at all the quirky decor, it goes well with Keswick feel and stone building. I found the house lovely and warm and welcoming and was sad to leave on our final day. The house was lovely and clean on arrival and we was impressed to have the use of a garage as we actually stored our Ickes in this and used the parking space in front of the garage provided for our car. Because our friends who stayed with us also had a car they found parking no problem there was always spaces. The area was friendly and people smile and said hi on passing and the shop was literally a two minute walk for food and bits we needed. The beds are low down and very comfy, the bedding was nice and soft, lovely to tuc up in after a long day up a mountain. Keswick is a lovely place to visit and especially if you like the outdoors, we had a lovely lovely time and would definitely stay at the Catsbells again. My hubby loved the stone wall paper and I loved the bedding that much I emailed the landlord for the make and details to order my own. I am so impressed by how officiant the landlord is with enquiries I have asked and his care was noted, he called check we arrived ok and everything was ok, and texted to check everything had been fine on our last day. Overall loved it, loved it, loved it!!!

Catbells is a lovely property which is nicely furnished. It is well equipped and in a very convenient location. Once you have parked the car you dont need to drive again until you leave as the lake. mountains and town are all within walking distance. Keswick is a beautiful town with many individual shops. There are plenty of good places to eat and some fab pubs.... We will definitely be back. Thank you for a lovely break.
