The Island of Gozo region
Gozo is the second largest island of the Maltese Archipelago that consists of three islands known as Gozo, Comino and mainland Malta.
Gozo is rural and simple, its culture and way of life rooted in fishing, and in primitive pastoral and agricultural activity. Tomatoes, potatoes, onions, melons, grapes, figs, oranges, and tangerines are the island's prime agricultural produce.
Gozo though separated from mainland Malta by a 5km stretch of Mediterranean sea is distinctly different from Malta. The soil is fertile as much blue clay is present. This means that rain water does not sink through the ground quickly and is the reason why Gozo always looks greener for most part of the year.
There is no fear in walking about at night. The sense of safety and security is tangible. The people of this island take pride in the absolute absence of muggings and the almost non-existence of theft. Until fairly recently, when they were not at home, the villagers of Gozo left their keys in their front doors, a custom which can occasionally still be seen.
Gozo is tranquil, and treasures its peace. For some, the silence can be overwhelming, but not to those for whom it spells a blessed respite from the trials and tribulations of everyday life. Gozo is not for those who like wild clubbing, bur for those who treasure their peace of body and soul and a slow rhythm of life, although a couple of excellent night spots are a hive of activity among the locals during the summer months.
The island is well served by restaurants, where the eating is good and varied. The visitor is spoilt for choice. Apart from restaurants and cafes offering local dishes as well as continental menus, one can also enjoy theme restaurants such as chinese and Indian.
Change is slow in Gozo, which adamantly sticks to its tortoise-like pace. Gozo has still succeeded in retaining its dream-like qualities of peace and solitude. If Ulysses were to come here today, he would find it even harder to leave.
Kercem is a quite village not far from the capital city of Gozo - Victoria and near the sandy beach of Xlendi.

"What a find!"
We planned out holiday kinda late in the summer so we were amazed that we found such a place on short notice. Not many villas/farmhouses get reviewed, so it made things a little more difficult. Absolutely everything was perfect about this place.... 1. The owners: Both Ann and her husband were amazing people to deal with. All correspondence by email was immediate (less than 12 hours each time) in regards to questions, inquiries, deposits, etc. This includes text messages when we arrived in Malta, during our stay at the farmhouse, and just before we left. Ann provided info on rentals (car, bike), places to visit and eat, etc. 2. Farmhouse: The pictures do not do this place justice. When we first walked in we could not believe how big and spacious it was, from the living room, to the bathrooms and the bedrooms. Exceptionally clean and well maintained. Good size kitchen and eating area with everything you need. Plenty of linen and towels. Ceiling fans (as well as an extra fan in the bedroom) in throughout the house, with also a/c at a minimal cost. Even with the 35 degree weather we did not need to use do to the fans and that every window has a bug screen so you can leave them open to create a nice draft. Also, free wifi (strongest in the living room) with great speeds was a huge plus. Then the pool area. We spent our non sight seeing days/evenings in the pool area. Large space (an extra deck upstairs) with a nice little pool (lights in the evening),a bbq which we took full advantage of, and plenty of deck chairs (and table and chairs)...oh, and you get the sun pretty much the entire day! 3. Location: Nice quiet neighborhood with a mini supermarket across the road. The owner, forget his name, was extremely friendly and talkative, and they have all the little bits you would need. The bus stop is across the street, which gets you to Victoria in less than 10 mins (which is the main starting point for all the bus routes, so travel in Gozo is simple!!). Kercem is an ideal location due to how close it is to the west coast (beaches) and to Victoria and all the buses. From the airport we got the coach (X1 I believe) so it was only €4.40 for two people one way (with lots of luggage) to the ferry. Ferry over was €9.50 return for two. Then a quick taxi from the ferry to the door for €15 (all white taxis stands have a fare sign posted beside them). So, it was pretty easy and inexpensive to get to! Overall: I would highly recommend Ta Pejpu Farmhouse to anyone looking for the perfect stay in Gozo. If you are looking for amazing people to rent from, for an accommodation that is spacious, clean, well priced, perfectly located with everything you DO NOT get from a hotel...then this is the place!
