LUSH is a unique property. A fully renovated, heritage-listed home built in 1898 in one of Katoomba's best streets. It offers every modern luxury combined with 19th Century charm and 21st Century sustainability.
It's a private, luxury experience which is totally powered by the sun! Close to cafes, restaurants, galleries, transport and the Three Sisters.
LUSH is located in the heart of Katoomba's tourist area but offers a very peaceful, tranquil setting. Cafes, galleries and escarpment walks are all within five minutes walk of the house and it's just a short walk to the main town centre and about 25 minutes walk from the station, with a bus stop directly outside the front gate. The spectacular Echo Point and Three Sisters are at the end of the street - a 15 minute walk or five minute drive. Five minutes to Leura's wonderful shopping! Directly opposite the house is a popular restaurant and just one street away is an indulgent Thai day spa.
Explore all this world-heritage listed region has to offer from this centrally-located cottage.
My guests are spoiled guests. Enjoy complementary local wine on arrival (well, after 5pm!) and perhaps some local produce.
Your section of the house includes a beautifully furnished, spacious bedroom inspired by India, Bali and Japan plus there's a touch of tradition with a lovely old brass bed. It has a generous ensuite wet room featuring a luxurious aromatherapy spa shower. A filter ensures your shower is pure chemical-free water. Walk through the French doors in the bedroom to your own private balcony with a fountain, lush ferns and a barbecue.
The bedroom opens onto a large lounge room with an open fireplace. Modern facilities, include BOSE Soundlink, CD player, large flatscreen TV, a selection of DVDs and board games and reverse cycle air conditioning. They are complemented by original features such as fretwork and stained glass windows and a very comfy, snuggly couch. French doors open out into the garden on hot nights and there are lush blankets and throws for the cold months.
The SHARED area of the house includes a large, open plan, contemporary living space with Apple TV plus satellite TV and a huge bathroom with a brand new, deep spa bath. In summer you can open the French doors and look out over the garden while you enjoy your bath! (It's very private and luscious "Cleopatra's bath salts" are provided.)
There is a magic deck at the back which sweeps around the house and is perfect for sipping a regional chardonnay at sundown. Here you can relax on the comfy day bed. There are built-in screens for when the sun gets too hot and outdoor heating when it's too cold.
The kitchen, (for tea and coffee only) includes a Nespresso coffee machine, (coffee, milk supplied), a Smeg retro fridge and filtered water.
LUSH is heritage listed but it has a contemporary style inside - you won't find the usual Katoomba chintz or gloomy, overdressed four-poster beds here! The emphasis is on good design combined with unusual antiques and objects collected from around the world as well as original artworks by local artists. 19th Century character is retained with open fireplaces, polished floorboards, wood stoves, intricate fretwork and lead light windows throughout the house, including unique Art Nouveau hand painted lead lights in the open plan area..
We are fully solar powered with 22 panels supplying the grid. A 10,000 litre water tank, six-star energy efficient heating system, on-site composting and organic permaculture vegetable gardens help us live sustainably. The garden provides organic produce for guests. Wherever possible, only environmentally- friendly cleaning products are used. Floor to ceiling insulation means the house is around 10 degrees cooler inside in summer without the need for air conditioning.
No modern comfort is sacrificed - stay warm in winter with the central heating and electric blankets, cool in summer with fans and air conditioning and safe and sound with a modern security system, in touch with fast, wireless internet and completely catered for with a modern kitchen and bathrooms - plenty of hot water!
But you'll be a million miles from the latest technology in our beautiful garden with its large reflection pond filled with lotuses and water lilies and 100-year-old tree ferns providing a home to native birds and possums. A sunny front porch is perfect for early morning coffee.
All around the gardens, front and back, are tasteful water features, stone walls and fountains and a wonderful entertaining area framed by an archway. There's even an old fuel stove converted into a modern barbecue available for guests' use.
A local bus stops right outside the front gate and sightseeing buses are also available from the top of Katoomba Street. They take you to Echo Point, Leura Cascades and the theme park Scenic World. For overseas visitors, I can direct you to where you can see wild kangaroos. (I can also take you there for a reasonable charge.)
Finally, this is a house for dog lovers. I live here with my large, exuberant, friendly dog, the famous 'Oi'. He is a real character who keeps most guests entertained but the house is designed so it can be split into two private areas. You don't have to see either of us at all.

The Blue Mountains region
In NSW you can find unspoilt rivers, magnificent beaches, dramatic landscapes, vineyards, skiing and swimming. Seven per cent of the State is declared national park and Katoomba sits right in the middle of the World Heritage Listed Blue Mountains National Park.
Katoomba is also the gateway to the wider western region's vineyards and wineries.
Katoomba is a picturesque village dominated by a dramatic escarpment landscape, including the iconic Three Sisters at Echo Point and beautiful waterfalls and cascades. The 15 villages scattered along the ridgeline are referred to the jewels which form a necklace around the mountain. Much of the local housing is period housing or heritage listed, making a wander through Katoomba's streets a delightful way to spend a cool summer evening. Near to LUSH on Lurline are walking trails through the Grose and Jamison Valleys where you can see wallabies, wallaroos and lyrebirds. Five minutes' drive will take you to Leura Cascades, an ancient valley of tree ferns and waterfalls which is an easy and pleasant morning or afternoon walk. Accessible by car is the Grand Canyon, Perry's Lookdown and Govett's Leap from where you can walk to the magnificent Blue Gum Forest. A personal guidebook to all our special places is included in your stay.
It can be very cold here in winter and we have about three or four snowfalls a year. Even summer nights can be cool so bring a cardi.
An hour and a half away are the famous Jenolan Caves, one of the most spectacular places to visit. As well as the caves, you are likely to see lyrebirds, platypus, wombats, variegated wrens, king parrots, crimson rozellas and white cheeked honeyeaters, eastern water dragons and goannas. Nearby is a mob of wild eastern grey kangaroos.
Katoomba and its nearby villages have everything - fantastic restaurants and cafes, especially try Silks brasserie and the Leura Garage Cafe or one of our Thai, Indian or Korean restaurants. There are antique stores and op shops along Katoomba Street and Leura (five minutes away) is a great place to find a unique gift to take home.
