Description

Villa Askim faces south, overlooking the Greek island of Castellorizo, known in Turkey as Meis. It's special because it's a home, not only a rental property and because It's set in the middle of a large, mature garden giving guests privacy & great outdoor space. The villa is on 2 floors, each 100 sq. metres. The garden has several charming places to sit out of the sun & relax, by the fountain, under olive trees or in the wooden tea house. Chill out on the pool terrace or swim in the sea - the nearby platform has decking and a ladder for easy, safe access into & out of the sea. It's pleasant to walk around the peninsula, there are fabulous views of the sea, the mountains and glorious sunsets. Peninsula hotels, most with direct sea access, welcome non-residents for swimming, drinks & dining out. Crime on the peninsula is virtually non-existent, find the police station & cameras at the junction where the road divides to circle the peninsula.

Location description from owner

The Turkish Mediterranean Coast region

Kas is backed by the Taurus mountains. The region is forested and green with mountain streams, gorges and traditional villages, giving spectacular views and a wonderful contrast to the coast. It's an agricultural area with vineyards, orange and lemon groves, olives, pomegranates and trout farms..

Kas has a typical Mediterranean climate - hot, dry summers in the 30’s and in spring and autumn temperatures are in the 20’s. It's bathed in sun most of the year with an occasional dramatic summer storm to cool things down. Offshore is the Greek island of Castellorizo, known in Turkey as Meis. The people of Meis and Kas enjoy a lot of friendly interaction, it's a short boat ride away and delightful to visit with a stunning blue cave.

For 3,000 years this region was known as Lycia, Kas being an important Lycian port. Conquered by Alexander the Great, then in turn by Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman rulers, ancient cities and artifacts are everywhere. Cities such as Xanthos and Patara, both Unesco World Heritage sites, Arycanda or Myra - all lie within easy reach - come and walk in the footsteps of Alexander and St. Paul.

Kas

Kas is a magnet for visitors because of its charm and unspoilt natural beauty. It has a slightly bohemian atmosphere and children are doted upon, it's child friendly. Enticing shops sell all manner of things Turkish, old and new, antiques, carpets, kelims, spices, jewellery & clothes. Friday is market day when villagers come to town to sell their produce, catch up with the latest news and each other.

In alleys and lanes, seek out the cafes, bars and nightspots. There are excellent restaurants in all price ranges, some with stunning sea views, relaxing and romantic. Play backgammon in tea houses, enjoy a hookah, visit the hammam or the barber, whose rejuvenating massage will make you feel marvellous!

The Culture House has art exhibitions and its cinema shows Turkish and international films. Recline in the Roman amphitheatre watching the sun set over the sea. Dress up or dress down and at night, enjoy the music…

The 3 day XIV International Lycian/Kas Culture and Art Festival is held in summer, date still to be set. It offers concerts, ballet, opera and film as well as art exhibitions. The amphitheatre is used for concerts and shows during the summer.

“Beauty, comfort, quiet, sea views and an enchanting garden”

Reviewed 15 Oct 2012

The perfect spot to get away from it all and relax. The villa is well equipped, and is served by a reliable dolmuş bus that gets you into the centre of Kaş in about ten minutes. But once you've done your shopping, if you're anything like us, you'll want to spend as much of your time as possible in the beautiful villa. There's a well maintained pool, or you can climb down to the sea in about three minutes. We loved the villa and are hoping to come back next year. Each of us had our favourite nooks in the garden.

“A Home from Home”

Reviewed 11 Sep 2012

Our family party of 7 had a wonderful stay in Villa Askim, The villa was comfortable and very well equipped. The outside area was quite perfect - beautiful gardens with a lovely pool - good for swimming and pool games. Stunning view of the sea and Meis Island. Lots of outdoor seating by the pool and in the garden with shade/privacy for a quiet read or shade from the sun. We loved being on the peninsula - stunning views all around - an excellent 3.5mile circuit if you like running. Would love to visit again!
