Location description from owner

The Turkish Mediterranean Coast region

Alanya is a fast growing town about 135 km east of Antalya. Quite often called the pearl of the Turkish Riviera, Alanya has become well known world-wide because of its clean, sandy beaches, and crystal clear, deep blue waters mixed with the excellent climate of the Mediterranean sun. The Villa is in the area of Alanya known as Kargicak. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty and designated national park area. Staying in this area you can enjoy unspoilt countryside yet easily access and enjoy all there is to offer in neighbouring Mahmutlar and Alanya. The city and smaller town are thriving, bustling, cosmopolitan tourist areas with plenty of nightlife, bars, restaurants, clubs and entertainment but when you have had enough you can escape to the peace and tranquility at will.  Because of its picturesque back drop of the Taurus Mountains, and its subtropical climate, many people visit Alanya both as a winter health resort and as a summer seaside resort. It is said that Alanya has more than 300 days of sunshine a year. The winters here are very mild with temperatures on a sunny day between 12c – 15c.With guaranteed sunshine, Alanya has a wealth of amenities to suit every taste. From go-karting, to cave exploring and the incredible bargains found in the various markets. Natural places of interest include i.e. Alanya Castle, Dimcay river , Damlatas Caves, Side, Manavgat Lakes and many, many more, Turkey is an open museum packed full of ancient history..Month by Month GuideJANUARY - Short days, lots of sunshine, great for walking and exploring. Also a good time for photographers. Never usually lower than 12c in nights, use the log fire and snuggle up and read your favourite book.FEBRUARY - Days start lengthening,  lots of sunshine, surprisingly warm in the day and good enough for a tan but still chilly in the shade. Great for exploring, walking, sightseeing. You see many hiking groups making their way through the Kargicak hills to the next valley. All the local businesses start frantically preparing for the new season before it gets too hot to work. Theres a great atmosphere here.MARCH - You start seeing the first signs of Spring, with oranges ripening and wild flowers starting to shoot. Sunny, days start to lengthen and sun is higher in the sky. APRIL.- April is usually warm and sunny but the rising temperature can cause unpredictable weather with occasional storms. The wild flowers and daisies burst through with the most gorgeous colours in the grass. The countryside is green and lush. MAY - Wow - May is a fantastic month. The most incredible, vibrant wild flowers burst into bloom everywhere and it is a photographers dream, the weather becomes less unpredictable and you notice the air temperature rise at night as well as in the day, but it is a comfortable heat with no humidity. You start wondering if the sea and pools are warm enough and - usually - they are! JUNE- Our favourite month. Wall to wall sunshine and very little prospect of rain or storms. Still the air is clear but the sun seems to warm your. bones and make you feel wonderful. The pools are a good temperature and the sea warms a little each day. The wild flowers start to die off  but the gardens are a mass of colours as all the shrubs bloom. JULY- Everyday of July you feel as though someone is turning the dial up so the sun becomes hotter and hotter. By the end of the month it is roasting hot and cool pools, bathing in the sea, ice- creams and cold beers are a month. The salads and fruit in the markets are succulent and juicy. You need no jackets or evening wraps. The last two weeks of July and the first two weeks of August are the hottest months I think, made to feel more so because the air can become quite humid.AUGUST - There's only one thing to do in August - take it easy and relax. Soak up the sun and enjoy everything the villa and its gardens have to offer. Its time to realise you made a mistake not getting a car with air- conditioning and you turn the shower down to cool rather than boiling hot! Everyone slows down a pace in the glorious sizzling heat. Think snorkling, boat trips, hammocks, siesta, beer and BBQ.SEPTEMBER - We love September. The moisture in the air clears through the month making it a hot, sunny but comfortable month. The pools are still warm, the sea remains warm but its a little easier to explore. Great month for sight seeing trips and beach walking. OCTOBER - October is a little like April, you can be lucky and have glorious weather, or the subtle seasonal change can cause storms. They rarely last long but they can be fierce. The sun is still warm and the sea great for swimming. The pools, however, start to get very chilly all of a sudden towards the end of the month.NOVEMBER and DECEMBER - When we first stayed in November and December we were so surprised. The sun was so warm and we enjoyed taking long walks and wandering without the heat taking its toll and exhausting you. We saw many new visitors in the region taking advantage of this hiking, bike riding and exploring the countryside. As you walk you will see farmers harvesting and drying out crops such as olives, oranges, mandarin and apples. As the months went by the sun started to drop in the sky and the days shortened but we still enjoyed the beach until 4 p.m. and swam in the sea up to around 15th December without feeling chilly. The Turkish have started to recognise the interest many people living in Alanya have for Christmas and have started decorating their restaurants and stocking Christmas goods in the shops. Everyone here celebrates New Year. So there you have it - Alanya is an all year resort, it certainly does not hibernate in Winter.
