The Ionian Islands region

The Ionian Islands is an archipelago that sweeps down the west coast of mainland Greece and includes Corfu, Paxi, Lefkada, Ithaca, Kefalonia and Zakynthos. Their unique natural beauty with the never- ending olive groves, traditional fishing or mountain villages and iridiscent waters of the Ionian Sea as well as the distinct local traditions embrace all visitors!

Each island has something special to present in architecture and culture- the remaining influences of the former Venetian, French or British invading forces.

Kefalonia is the largest of the Ionian Islands and is considered as the jewel of the Ionian Sea. The island is generously gifted by nature, a place with rare geological phenomena, mysterious caves, and subterranean water with superb beaches, traditional architecture and rich archaeological finds.

Karavados village is located southwest of Kefalonia, approximately 10km/ 7miles south of the capital, Argostoli. Villa Ianthe itself is built in a beautiful location about 500m inland and in the greater area one will find numerous stunning beaches, some of which are provided with water sports facilities.

The broader Karavados area offers many options for sightseeing as there is a considerable number of attractions both of historical and natural interest. We suggest you visit:

•The Venetian fortress of Saint George, which was built in 1504 and is located on a hill above the village of Peratata, 5 minutes drive away from our estate.

•The Minoan tombs in Mazarakata.

•The National Park of Mount Ainos which was created in 1962 to protect the indigenous specimen of elati and its rich fauna. The Park also shelters the famous Kefalonian Wild Horses.

•The Monastery of Saint Gerasimos, the patron Saint of Kefalonia, located in Omala, 13km away.

•The Archaeological, Historical and Cultural Museums in Argostoli are also worth visiting as they all display interesting exhibits from pre-historic times.

During your stay if you wish to further explore the island we recommend the following outdoor activities:

•Scuba diving

•Off-road safari

•Walking trips

•Horse riding in Ainos

•Private boat hiring

Supplementary information can be provided on request.

The traditional way of fun is characterised by the numerous feasts organised every year for the celebrartion of the local Saints in various villages all over the island. Some of the most important feasts you should not miss out take place in July or August; for example the feast of St. Gerasimos on the 16th August, that of Virgin Mary on the 15th and the Robola Wine festival in mid August.

"Ideal recovery"

We traveled to Kefalonia in the second part of our summer holidays. As the first part involved participating in a very difficult mountain race in Zagori we preferred a relaxing place to stay. Korrali's villas was everything we had anticipated. The location offers both a quite and relaxing place to stay, and a proximity to Argostoli. The also give you a sense of privacy since they are not very close to each other. After a long day driving around Kefalonia we enjoyed the magnificent view of the sea view and Enos mountain from the large verandas. The villas are well equipped with everything one could ask for (the washing machine in particular had been very handy to us). Maria has been the best ravel guide we could hope indicating places to go, beaches, restaurants and taverns. We most enjoyed our staying! Than you both Maria and Panagiotis!

"A very nice holiday !!"

The Villa is very comfortable, clean and well equipped and is placed in a good position for visiting Cefalonia. Maria and Panagiotis are very kind and always ready to give advices. We had a very nice stay in Villa.

Thank you for being such lovely guests! We hope your family thouroughly enjoyed the day trips on the island and your swims in the nearby clear blue beaches. We are looking forward to seeing you again next summer!

Thank you for your opinion about your stay! It was great chatting to you about your day trips in Kefalonia and we were really pleased you followed our advice about all the special places to visit. Thank you for sharing with us a glass of wine in the terrace.

"We recommend it: nice and pleasant stay!"

Very nice place: all the premises are new, fully and well furnished. You miss nothing. The flat gives you a wonderful view on the sea and a really nice and quite sandy beach is nearby, just one kilometer from the house. There is no swimming pool but you don't feel the absence, since there is plenty of wonderful beaches in just 10 minutes drive. Why are you looking for a swimming pool, when seawater is everywhere cristalline and warm? We enjoyed the sea a lot, especially our young daughter. The owners are growing a beautiful mediterranean garden, made of olive and lemon trees, lavanda, rosmary and jasmine: in the evening, when a fresh breeze makes the temperature more pleasant, it's very nice to sit on the terrace drinking some ouzo and passing the time chatting among us. You need a car since the flats are located in a small and quite village: it takes 15' drive for the capital, Argostoli, where you can find restaurants, shops, markets and all the other things you are used to at home. Food is everywhere nice and rather cheap: again, there is plenty of tavernas in all villages, where you can eat from midday to midnight. Maria, the owner, is very nice and always available for whatever you need, especially information on where to go and eat as well as weather forecasts. Moreover, she speaks perfect english. Last but not least, the building has two flats, one above the other, connected by a staircase. You can rent them separately but, if you leave the staircase door open, it becomes like one very large apartment on two floors. Perfect for friends with children who want to play together.

We would like to thank you for your kind words regarding your stay with us last August. It was our pleasure to accommodate you and assist you with the questions you had about the beaches and the restaurants on Kefalonia. We hope to see you and your family again in the near future. www.korallisvillas.gr

"Much better than we expected"

Needless to say that the trip from Romania to Kefalonia by car was a hard one, but we arrived at Korallis Villas around noon. It was my third consecutive holiday on the ionian islands, but the first time with a group af 8 people (4 couples with ages around 30 years old, no children and no pets). We rented a 4 bedroom/ 2 bathroom villa and, to our surprise, our expectations were exceeded when we got there. First of all, whoever chooses to go to this place, don't trust the pictures on the villas' website (at least the ones we'd seen), because they make it seem common and quite dull. We found the villa to be brand new, very clean, with very nice looking furniture and accesories. It was equiped as described on the website: fully equiped kitchens, hair dryers, washing machine, air conditioning (in every room), iron, wi-fi and a safe deposit box (if i forgot something, i stand corrected). This makes a lot of things easier because one does not have to bring his own dryer or iron and maybe even less clothes (to be honest we didn't know what to expect when we left, so we brought even our own detergent, which we didn't get to use because the owners already had suplied some). Secondly, Maria, one of he owners, gave us a very warm welcome, in an outstanding English (which can be really difficult to come across in some parts of Greece even at young people). She also provided some much needed water, coffee, olive oil, wine and a delicious home made orange jam. Not to forget that she also pointed out the best places to visit on the island and gave us some very useful information for our stay (there were also some flyers in the villa which had similar info, but is is much better to hear it from someone). Thirdly, the villa is quite well situated for someone who wants to visit the whole island. Also, it is 10 mins driving from the Argostoli, the capital of the island, which is also a verry nice city to visit and to hang out. We actually spent 3 or 4 evenings there and 2 afternoons for shopping. For those who want to be near a beach, there is a little nice beach called St Thomas about 2 km south of the villa. Also, we had some friends who came by plane for a couple of days and we picked them up from the airport, which is also 5-10 mins away from the villa. We chose to visit as much of the island as we could because it has so many beautiful beaches and the location helped us do that. Don't forget: get a car, because the island is very big and the beaches are far away from eacother. Last but not least, it ws the best values for money i found in all my trips to the Ionian islands. At this time i really can't find anything bad to say about the villa, except maybe the wind that was slamming any windows or doors left open. If you had visited Greece before, you will love this place and if you haven't, it will certainly not dissapoint you.

Thank you for your nice words! It was our pleasure to help you get the most out of your stay on the island. We hope you trully enjoyed snorkling and swimming at the beaches we highly recommended and we would love to accommodate you again soon as there are still quite a few places left for you to discover...

"one the best place to stay if you'll go to Kefalonia"

We have had the pleasure to stay at the Korallis villas ,a small complex situated in Karavados with an amazing view on the mount Enos Our apartment was new ,with a high standard furniture, very well equipped with anything you need like at your own home, maybe better. The owner family has been helpfully, they helped me to discover the hidden treasure of the island. Finally, a great place to spend yours holyday highly recommended

Thank you! We hope you thoroughly enjoyed your relaxing family evenings at the terrace, especially those nights when the reflection of the full-moon on the sea across was simply so very bright... We are looking forward accommodating you and your family again in the near future so that we can exchange more recipes!

"a litle bit of peace"

Exhausted and needing a short private break, this was a wonderful find, perfect. Being so new, it was clean, fresh and inviting. I remember wonderful barbeques, wine and sittting 'til late enjoying unspoilt views where you could hear a pin drop! Especially as we'd roasted all day on the beach. Am hoping next summer, our daughter and 4 grandchildren will join us, we could all have our own space and It's safe for children and the owners have tried to think of everthing you may need, even going so far as to supply upto date info packs and ideas for children activities.

Many thanks for your lovely comments! Looking forward to seeing you and your grandchildren again this July!
