“Excellent apartments, great for couples and famlies - and larger groups”

Reviewed 10 Sep 2015

We stayed at the Nur apartments in August 2015. We were a party of eleven total; four in Daybreak, four in Dawn and three of us in Sunrise. The apartments were very clean and well-appointed and during our fortnight the apartments were recleaned and our bed linen and bath/hand towels were replaced. It is worth noting that beach towels are also provided (and changed) during your stay – saving considerably on your luggage allowance. As does the provision of a washing machine, if you were going for a week you could almost get away with hand baggage – toiletries being cheap enough to buy in the supermarket that’s two minutes’ walk away. We probably split our eating in and eating out pretty evenly. There are lots of good, and good value restaurants in Kalkan but if you want to self-cater then the apartments are well enough equipped that you can without having to compromise; gas hob, microwave, electric oven and all the utensils you would commonly need. Even the cutlery matched…! Although we were eleven, and there were other parties staying at Nur there was never any issue with either sunbeds or space around the pool which is larger than you would expect for ‘just’ apartments. The pool and its surround were always clean and tidy. The apartments are about 10-15 minutes uphill from Kalkan old-town and harbour (downhill is much quicker!) and you would probably be best to avoid a midday return uphill, but in the evenings after dinner it was never an issue and we had a seven year old with us… The arranged transfers to and from Dalaman airport were painless, and between eleven the cost was very reasonable given it is 75-90 minutes. In summary, Kalkan is very pretty, the apartments are value for money, spotless, well-appointed, nicely located, well looked after and have a great pool. We would not hesitate to recommend them to couples, families or indeed larger groups such as ours.

“A Great Holiday in Kalkan”

Reviewed 8 Jul 2013

Just spent two very enjoyable weeks in Kalkan, staying at the Sunrise Apartment. The accomodation was very comfortable, well appointed & clean. It was ideally situated for exploring Kalkan. We were about a 15 minute walk from the beach & harbour area. Kalkan is a beautiful coastal resort with a vast number of good quality restaurants. It is a bit more expensive to eat out, when compared with a lot of other Turkish resorts. It is also hilly. However, this will not deter me from returning.

Thanks guys... you know you will always be welcome.

“Best Apartment ever”

Reviewed 25 Oct 2011

We stayed in Sunrise from October 8th. th October 22nd. It was a wonderful experience. Fiona and Martyn arranged our transfer from the airport and the taxi was waiting as we came out of the airport. Pouring with rain when we got to Kalkan but never mind when we went into the apartment it was truly wonderful. Excellently fitted out everything plus more that you could wish. King size bed very comfortable and excellent shower in bathroom. The terrace was loveley with sun umberella and yes we did get to use it. We have been to Kalkan a number of times and adore it. This was no exception. Omars next door was excellent value for money and his take away pizzas were divine. We didnt hire a car this time but it didnt matter. The town beach was loveley [could have done with a mattress on the sun bed] but for 7lire for 2 sun beds and umbrella what could you expect. Ate at the Olive Garden lovely and at Kaptans which also was excellent. Best fish and chips ever on the harbour at the restaurant attached to the Pirat hotel. Had a lovely trout meal in the mountains. Restaurant fetched us and took us back no need for a taxi. Could go on for ever but would fully recommend Sunrise Apartments as an excellent base for a wonderful holiday. Kalkan I love you!

Thank you for taking the trouble to review Sunrise - so pleased you had a good time (but then again you are a Kalkan regular so you knew what to expect)!

“Conveniently located apartment with the facilities of a hotel”

Reviewed 10 Aug 2011

Our stay in this apartment was a pleasure from start to end. Having visited Kalkan previously and been rather "out on a limb" at the Kalamar Hotel up the hill, we were keen to stay closer to the town. The apartments are well situated as they are away from the bustle but only a five minute walk to the restaurants and shops of Kalkan. There are several grocery stores very close to the apartments and also places to eat. The pool is a good size and private. Food and drinks are available from the adjoining hotel. When our air conditioning unit started leaking, it was fixed very quickly. The cleaners were very pleasant and the hotel staff were friendly. The facilities in the apartment were adequate for what we needed. We had breakfast there a couple of mornings but we never intended to cook much considering there are so many restaurants and cafes in Kalkan! We intend to return to Kalkan and there is a very good chance that we would stay here again. On this occasion we travelled in a group of 3 couples and 2 singles. The singles shared a room in the adjoining hotel and the rest of us rented apartments in the same block. I probably wouldn't recommend the apartments for people who have trouble walking as there are steps up to the pool and again to get to the apartment. That said, I probably wouldn't recommend Kalkan as a resort for someone who struggles to walk due to the steep hills so if you can manage Kalkan generally you should be able to manage these apartments!

Thanks so much for your review. Really appreciate you taking the time to write in :-)

“You won't be disappointed”

The historic town of Kalkan is set on the edge of the Toros mountains and boasts more than 100 fine restaurants, many set at roof top level and all serving excellent food with first class service. This was our second visit to Kalkan but our first stay at Nur apartments. The apartments are ideally situated within about 15 minutes walk of the old town and beach (depending on your fitness levels – Kalkan is quite hilly and very hot in July!) and are handy for supermarkets, banks, good local restaurants and the weekly Thursday bazaar where you can buy a wide range of goods and food. Our apartment, Sunrise, was exceptionally clean and well furnished and provided everything we could possibly have needed during our stay. The staff were friendly and welcoming and it was lovely to have our own private pool (just for the 5 apartments) if you didn’t fancy the walk down to the beach. We found the Nur hotel bar and restaurant to be quite expensive and a little loud for our taste so preferred to frequent the more traditional Turkish bars and restaurants in the town. A particular favourite was Lipsos, overlooking the harbour, for unpretentious food and service, where we whiled away many a happy hour watching the boats drifting in after their daily trips around the coastline and the fishermen unloading and transporting their day’s catch to the local restaurants. We would also recommend Hunkar kebab cafe down the road (follow the locals). We asked for the chef ‘s recommendation and had iskender kebab – one of the tastiest meals we had during our holiday - and just 13 lira. If you’re spending the day at Kalkan beach, the local beach cafe by the lifeguard provides exceptionally good value (the tuna sandwiches are fabulous); it is also handy for ice creams and drinks for the beach – and all profits go towards the provision of sports amenities for the local youngsters. For a romantic evening our favourite was Mussaka Brasserie in the old town (we would recommend booking the balcony table where you can relax and watch the hustle and bustle in the streets below) where they serve the most delicious fillet steaks and also Chops restaurant up by the trout farms in the cooling hills of Islamlar, a short taxi ride away for a real unassuming taste of Turkish cuisine and culture. We have already booked to return next year to Kalkan and the Nur apartments and could not recommend them highly enough. Many thanks to Martyn and Fiona at Kalkan Secrets for such an informative, friendly and straight-forward booking process.

Thanks very much... so pleased you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to welcoming you back next year :-)

“Excellent location, extremely friendly locals, and beautiful scenery.”

Reviewed 27 May 2011

We spent five days in one of the first floor apartments and and had an absolutely lovely holiday. The apartment is very well situated - about a five minute walk down a hill to a harbour which has a stony beack surrounded by local restaurants and shops. The apartment was a good size and had everything we needed. The pool was large and shared only by the other apartments in the block. The scenery was amazing, the harbour was framed by mountains and I think that the sea was the clearest and most bluest water I have ever seen. The local beach was a stony one but there were plenty of sun loungers to rent at a cheap price - we soon realised we had to wear flip flops to get in and out of the sea. The beach was never very busy and there was a huge range of restaurants to choose from, We went to a different restaurant every night and never had a bad experience. The food was all homemade and delicious. The locals are very friendly but not sleazy or pushy and the town had a very traditional feel to it. We got a local mini bus to Patara which is a sandy beach about 20 mins away, this wsa also very beautiful but we felt that kalkan was slightly nicer. Both beaches have little cafes which serve good value food. On our last day we went on a boat trip around Kalkan harbour and surrionding area, this cost about £20, the boat ws luxurious and we had a good meal and snacks included, it was extremely good value. There are several companies in the town which run similar trips which I would highly recommend. In all the trip was great. Very relaxing, lovely friendly people and everywhere was really clean. The food and trips were quite cheap, but alcoholic drinks are about the same price as in England as is petrol. I think we spent around £50 each per day but this included trips and some shopping. I would highly recommend Kalkan, and the apartment, as a holiday destination. We were lucky with the weather which was probably in the early thirties and sunny every day. The sea was extremely cold but I think this is due to cold springs from the mountains. This is an ideal holiday for people who want to relax and have a more traditional holiday, there are no nightclubs which suited us but may not be for everyone.

Thank you for the positive review... please come again!

“A quiet location but still close to the centre of Kalkan”

Reviewed 23 May 2011

A lovely apartment will all the facilities you need for a great holiday. We have stayed in Sunrise three times now and been visiting Kalkan since 1989 so we really do love it! We especially like the central but quiet location of Sunrise with it's private pool and friendly atmosphere. It's a short walk to shops, bars, restaurants, the bus station, the weekly market, the beach and no car is necessary. We hope to visit again this summer.

Thanks... we love our regulars! You are always welcome :-)
