Location description from manager

The Turkish Mediterranean Coast region

Ancient Lycia in south western Turkey runs from Ekincik to Antalya in a semi-circle of some of the most mountainous and dramatic landscape anywhere in Turkey. The Taurus Mountains rise to over ten thousand feet and the highest peaks are snow covered right into early summer. It's magnificent scenery with it's lakes, woods and forests, it's stunning coast line and superb ruins of two dozen cities make Lycia a place to explore and enjoy.

Lycia's coast line runs for several hundred kilometres, borders the Mediterranean and attracts yachtsmen to the crystal clear waters and near perfect climate. The many islands, coves and beautiful beaches such as Patara, one of the top ten in the world ( Sunday Times 2005) and Kaputus, within 15 minutes of Kalkan and Olu Deniz, 45 minutes away, add to Lycia 's unique historic and scenic appeal to visitors.

At a latitude of 36 degrees, Kalkan is one of the most southerly points of Turkey's Mediterranean coast and enjoys sunny, warm days most of the year. Spring and autumn are popular times to visit with temperatures into the 70's not unusual right through to December.

The UNESCO world heritage site of Xanthos was Lycia's capital city for much of it's history and the ruins of the principal cities of Tlos, Myra, Pinara and Partara, all close to Kalkan attract visitors from all over the world to look at the ancient ruins dating back over 2000 years. The British museum also has an extensive collection of Lycian artefacts.

Kalkan

Villa Lagun is located in the he LaVanta resort, located just above Kalkan and Kalamar Bay's offers some of the finest holiday home accommodation in Kalkan, combining high standards of design and build, a stunning location, breath-taking views of the Mediterranean and excellent amenities.

The LaVanta resort comprises a selection of three and four bedroom villas with private swimming pools, two bedroom town houses, and duplex apartments with either one of two bedrooms. They offer not only an excellent choice of accommodation, but exceptional quality and a beautiful location. Perched atop the thick wooded hillside overlooking historic Kalkan on Turkey's elegant Turquoise Coast, the development itself is simply stunning and Lavanta's holiday homes have been built to reflect the unique character of the area, with varying roof heights and designs.

The historic harbour town of Kalkan is an enchanting place in one of the most beautiful locations on Turkey's gorgeous Mediterranean coast. Kalkan bay will take your breath away. It's crystal clear Turquoise water, and mountains that rise steeply behind it provide a dramatic and beautiful backdrop in which to enjoy your stay. Strict building codes ensure Kalkan town's historic preservation, and the many fine restaurants contribute to the special atmosphere that brings back visitors time and time again. Narrow cobbled streets that wind away from the harbour with bougainvillea covered wooden ottoman balconies and historic architecture are typical of the old town, and the warm Turkish hospitality will stay with you long after your holiday is over.

A very popular trip is to the ancient sunken city of Simena in the area of Kekova, one of the most beautiful areas of the Lycian coast.A terrible earthquake in the 2nd century AD caused a downward shift of land and the submerged ancient houses can be viewed through glass bottom boats. Boat trips can be booked direct at the harbour or through the tour companies in Kalkan.

It was an important commercial centre and harbour during the 5th century. A day trip to Patara can include beautiful Patara beach, one of the best in Turkey and a perfect place to relax after a bit if sightseeing.
