The Turkish Mediterranean Coast region
Kalkan is located in the Turquoise Coast on the Mediterranean Sea. Kalkan enjoys nearly year round sunshine with the months of May, September and October having daytime temperatures of between 20 - 30 degrees Celsius... rising up to the mid 40 degrees during the hotter summer months.
The Turquoise Coast was once home to the Lycian civilization and within an hour's drive of Kalkan there are some fascinating historical sites to visit including Patara, Pinara, Letoon and Xanthos.
For guests who do not want to hire a car to visit some of these sights, there are many tour operators located within Kalkan who can offer daily guided tours of most of the historic and interesting areas of this beautiful part of Turkey.
This picturesque town used to be a fishing village 100 years ago... but is now a very popular holiday destination which boasts over 130 restaurants with many having roof terraces offering superb views across the town and Kalkan Bay.
One of the most popular ways to spend a day in Kalkan is to have a boat trip around the surrounding bays and have the opportunity to swim in the clear, turquoise waters of the Mediterranean.
Boats can be privately chartered or shared. Lunch is prepared, cooked and served on board and is included in the price of the trip. A wonderfully relaxing way to spend a day.
