St. John's

The capital of Antigua is a bustling city with an impressive Anglican cathedral. Originally constructed in 1683, it has since been rebuilt and survived the rigours of nature. The Friday and Saturday markets are certainly worth a visit and offer a wide range of tropical food and drink and local folk crafts.

English Harbour

Headquarters to the British Navy fleet of the Leeward Islands, English Harbourtown was a strategically important port and known as the 'gateway to the Caribbean'. Horatio Nelson's arrival in 1784 heralded the development of the area, in particular Nelson's Dockyard, which has been completely restored and is the only surviving example of a Georgian dockyard in the world.

Shirley Heights

Providing breath-taking views overlooking English Harbour, Shirley Heights is today the remains of a garrison named after General Shirley, Governor of the Leeward Islands in the late 1700s. On a Sunday afternoon, enjoy the view with a rum punch and a barbeque, accompanied by a steel band.Sea View Farm VillageAntiguan pottery is still being made in the traditional way today at Sea View Farm. Clay is brought from the local pits and fashioned into pots which are sold across the Island.

Barbuda

For a truly relaxing time, take a trip to Antigua's sister Island, Barbuda. The Island has only 1,500 inhabitants but is home to over 5,000 frigate birds. Beach combing is a favourite activity here with beaches all around the coastline. Barbuda is also known for its many shipwrecks which can be accessed by experienced divers with a local guide.

“Fantastic week in the sun”

Reviewed 12 Oct 2015

I travelled to Harbour Lights in October as a small group of 4. The communication with Ben prior to booking was so easy and he came back to any questions I had really quickly - it really made the whole process super smooth and simple. We were met at the villa by Bart who showed us round and described everything we might ever want or need during our stay (including how to use the TV!) He was also on hand during the week and sorted out a few queries and problems we had. It was great to have someone 'on the ground' who we could go to for help, as well as Ben in the UK. The property was great and had everything we needed. Highlights were the aircon (!) and the welcome pack on arrival was fantastic (we arrived late on the Sunday evening so made ourselves a feast out of this). The pool was such a welcome addition and made cooling off that much easier but be careful of the wind which will blow even the sturdiest of parasols into the marina! We travelled in off-peak season which meant the whole resort was quite quiet aside from the residents. It meant that we pretty much had South Beach to ourselves which was fantastic but Castaways - the bar on the beach was shut which was a shame as I had heard great things about it. We found some fab places to eat but I would really recommend heading to West Point bar for happy hour (4-7pm) where they serve great cocktails with VERY generous measures and then eating at 'West Point Grill' - it's a really basic set up of a tent and BBQ in the corner of the bar deck but the lady who runs it serves fantastic fresh fish and meat at a great price (the rest of the resort is fairly pricey). I had 'grilled fish' which turned out to be a whole grilled red snapper, salad and veg for the equivalent of £7. We rented a beach buggy which we would highly recommend as without one the walk to the main resort is quite far and in the heat would be really difficult. Ben sorted that out for us as well and it was waiting for us at the villa. Overall, it was a fantastic stay and I would recommend the villa to anyone who is keen to visit Antigua.

“Brilliant holiday will definitely do it again”

Reviewed 29 Jun 2015

Had a fantastic trip travelling with my girlfriend for a week staying in Antigua Harbour Lights. This modern, comfy house was located in a prime spot overlooking the harbour with a pool which was truly magnificent. We loved the location with the beach, restaurants, supermarket and larger pool just a few minutes ride away in the golf buggy. The house was spotless and there was air con in every room in the house which was a huge bonus. If we didn't go out for dinner, we put the barbecue to good use which was a personal highlight. The locals and other holidaymakers were very friendly. It was certainly the most relaxing holiday I've ever been on and we will definitely be coming again!

“Our second stay at this villa, saving for the third !”

Fantastic villa, swimming pool a great bonus, clean and airy, well equipped. Bart the manager on call for any advice or assistance, and Ira for taxi rides, lovely friendly people. Jolly Harbour has great bars, restaurants, excellent supermarket and fab beach. We hired a golf buggy to get around the complex which was fun. The whole experience of booking this lovely villa from initial inquiry through to being met at the airport and then greeted by Bart at the villa was superb, well organised and a stress free. I am delighted to recommend Harbour Lights as a first class holiday villa in a stunning location.

“Very relaxing place to stay”

Property provides a great base for a relaxing stay and has everything you need for a great holiday. Bart the property manager welcomed us in and waved us good bye and I'm sure would have been available if needed during the stay.cleaners come in and do a great job. South beach around castaways was brilliant for us and a helicopter ride over the volcano in Montserrat a real treat during the stay.

“Everything we wanted”

Reviewed 5 Mar 2014

This villa was everything we hoped for. It was spacious for 4 of us (2 couples) with 2 upstairs bedrooms and a third downstairs that didn't even get used. It also has 3 bathrooms, 2 ensuites connected to the bedrooms upstairs and another on the main floor that was very handy. The main bedroom upstairs has a nice deck that gives a picturesque view to wake up to each morning. Both upstairs bedrooms had large closets with hangers and dressers for all of your clothes. The villa was clean, comfy and airy. The private deck and pool outside are the highlight of this villa, perfect for cooling off and lounging around in the sun! We felt spoiled when we looked around at all the other villas with small outside areas. We appreciated having a safe to keep our valuables locked away. Area felt very safe and everyone was super friendly! Loved having the BBQ for cooking dinners and the kitchen had everything we needed except a blender. My only disappointment was forgetting to write in the guest book before we left! A few shout-outs… To Ben (villa owner) who answered countless questions we had before the trip and helped to make our stay wonderful. To Bart (villa manager) who was available to us anytime we needed and went beyond to help us out a few times. To the cleaner (I believe her name was Anita) who was very thorough when cleaning the villa and friendly. To Denroy, who was a chef that we mistook for the driver, yet he still had no problem driving us all over the island on more than one occasion! Denroy - if you are reading this we would’ve had you over to cook had we known! All in all we had a wonderful vacation and I would recommend this villa to anyone looking to stay in Jolly Harbour. I really hope we make it back for a vacation again one day! ABOUT JOLLY HARBOUR First I would like to say that Jolly Harbour is a great area to stay in, we thoroughly enjoyed it as a home base. It has all the amenities that you need and I will comment on some first hand experience of each below: Supermarket - very handy, located in the main end of Jolly Harbour, many brands we were familiar with and an area to buy liquor as well. Pharmacy - probably not what you are used to but has basic things that we ended up needing such as bug spray, sunscreen and advil. Restaurants - a big variety in the area. Castaways on Jolly Beach is great for a drink and watching the sun set. Al Porto had delicious stone grilled pizzas. Heard great things about the food on D•Boat as well. Sugar Ridge up the road from Jolly Harbour was nice although fancy and expensive. Beach - Jolly Beach in the south end was one of the best beaches we saw on our trip. There is also a north beach 5 minute walk away from the villa that is a sea shellers dream. Getting Around - from the north area I would recommend renting a golf cart as the walk is about 45 minutes from the villa to the main end. We left Jolly Harbour area a few times and negotiated a price with the driver before hand, it was always reasonable and the driver would pick us up promptly when called (keep in mind this was actuality the chef that we mistook for the driver :) Hope this review helps others make the decision to stay at Harbour Lights Villa and to visit Jolly Harbour in Antigua - you won’t be disappointed!

“Fantastic trip in the idyliic Antigua Harbour Lights!”

We got back a couple of weeks ago after having a fantastic time staying at Antigua Harbour Lights. We loved the homely villa, the sunshine and the island atmosphere. The pool and buggy were definitely major pluses!! We managed to see and do most of the things that we wanted on the island with everything easily accessible from Jolly Harbour. Thank you so much for letting us use your villa and Bart, the villa manager, was great in helping us with anything we needed. The booking process was made very easy and informative. We can't wait to return....!! Many Thanks, Hannah & Jason

“A private and peaceful experience”

Reviewed 6 Jan 2014

Particularly excellent getaway for those whose prime purpose is to relax, yet with sufficient restaurants/bars/beaches within walking distance. We tend to stock up on arrival at the excellent local supermarket and spend our days relaxing by the pool. In the evening, sun downers and the BBQ make this an excellent spot to lie back and look at the beautiful starry sky uncluttered by light pollution. There are also lively restaurants and bars within the complex (circa 1 kilometre stroll) although of particular note is the beautiful North Beach. Less than 5 minutes walk, we tended to have it all to ourselves when we walked (5 minutes) clutching nothing more than a towel and bottle of cold fizz.
