Description

Exactly one mile from the centre of Jed (as Jedburgh is locally known), this is a beautifully refurbished 3 bedroom semi-detached cottage with 1/2 acre of garden overlooking open countryside, perched above the Royal Burgh of Jedburgh. Tastefully renovated and decorated throughout, this Jedburgh cottage is an ideal base for relaxing in the spacious south facing garden, or exploring this historic and unspoilt holiday haven.

Hop on the train at Tweedbank a mere 16 miles away for a direct link to the magnificent festival city of Edinburgh. The cottage is surrounded by golf courses and some of the finest stretches of river fishing in Britain. It's also great for walking and cycling along the quiet country lanes that are a throwback to a bygone rural age

Location description from owner

The Scotland region

The Borders town of Jedburgh, with its dominant 12th century Augustinian abbey, is a great base for exploring an area blessed with stunning countryside as well as a rich past. The countryside around this Jedburgh cottage is famed for its beauty and there are many walks and drives that allow you to explore the area. The nearby towns of Melrose and Peebles are charming and you can easily spend a day discovering the shops, restaurants and cafes. With Scotland’s capital Edinburgh only just over an hour’s drive, there really is something for everyone here. The area became prosperous in the 12th century through wool and its mighty abbeys were built on the back of this. The weather - as in much of Britain - is variable. But when it is good, the Borders is beautiful. When the sun shines, there are few nicer places to be.

Jedburgh

As well as walking, cycling, fishing, shooting and sightseeing there are plenty of activities for the children: there's the Harestanes Visitors Centre two miles away with all manner of games and outside actiivities; the Jedforest Deer Park, Mary Queen of Scots house in Jedburgh, plus a creepy tour of Jedburgh's Castle Jail and museum. Plus some stocked trout lakes and river activities on the Tweed and Teviot. Every summer there is a season of 'ride outs' from each of the Borders towns during June and July, when locals on horseback mark the bounds with flags and celebration.
