Location description from owner

The Valencian Country region

With it's rugged coastline and mountainous backdrop Javea is a spectacular place. It is also quite close to a number of other places of interest such as the splendid city of Valencia, home to the America's Cup in 2010. Valencia really is a 'must see' city. For those who do not wish to travel that far we are only 40 minutes from the theme parks of Benidorm. If you take a trip to Denia, some fifteen minutes by car (or you could go by boat) you can catch a ferry to the islands of Ibiza and Majorca- indeed on a clear day there are wonderful views to Ibiza from many parts of Javea. A 20 minute drive takes you into the Jalon valley with it's wondrous scenery, bodegas and rural restaurants.

Javea

With around 320 days of sunshine each year the Javea area has a very appealing climate. Classified as 'near perfect' by the World Health Organisation the microclimate has proven very beneficial to many people with ailments. Javea, with it's three parts, the Casco Urbano (Old Town), Port and Arenal has something for everybody. The locals call it ' Amanecer de Espana, the ' dawn of Spain' because it occupies the most easterly point overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Javea is a working Port and is where people from many parts of northern Europe come to make their home. Javea's history includes the defeat of the Moors by King Jaime in 1244 and San Bartolome Church has an inner wall dating from this time. Javea has many fiestas starting with Los Reyes ( Three Kings) on the night of 5th January , through the Hogueras de San Juan in June, the Moors and Christians in July and the Port Fiesta in September. Besides these main fiestas a number of others take place and if you are here in Javea in the Summer months you will almost certainly see part of one of our fiestas.

“As good a holiday as we have ever had!”

Reviewed 11 Jul 2016

My gorgeous wife and I stayed here for 10 nights from 26 June 2016. Having picked up a car from Alicante Airport the 1 hour journey to Javea / Xabia was very straightforward and Bob’s directions were spot on. We arrived at the apartment at 1.30pm and Bob was there to welcome us and provide an informative tour of the facilities, as well as providing much needed directions to the only nearby supermarket that was open (it being a Sunday). And so to the penthouse. First impressions were very good. Basically there’s one long hallway with each of the rooms (lounge, kitchen, 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms) all leading off it. And from 4 of those there are Patio doors leading out to the huge long, L-shaped balcony. Loads of room on this outside terrace which was drenched in warm sunshine from first thing in the morning to around 8pm. Beds were comfortable, loads of cupboard space and drawers. Kitchen was well equipped, main shower was great (and always hot). There was an ensuite and a bathroom so no fighting over who got in first! We also felt very secure – a key to get into the grounds then into the block itself with a further key for the apartment. We were on the 3rd floor, accessed by the stairs or the lift. The aircon worked perfectly as did the WiFi. The outside terrace is so huge that I sometimes couldn’t quite get the WiFi signal at the far end but that was only a very minor inconvenience. And more than compensated for the fact that you could turn the main TV round to face out of the balcony, and watch the Euro 2016 games whilst still sitting out in the evening sunshine! We had a car throughout our visit. The beach at the port area was where we tended to spend our mornings. It’s only a 10 minute stroll. But having a car meant that we could take down the fold-up sunbeds provided with the apartment, rather than trying to get comfortable on the pebble beach. The start of the main sandy beach at Arenal was about 1.6 miles away and the end of it about another half mile. I only know that as I ran there and back a few times during our stay! Swimming in the sea at either of these 2 locations was great although on some occasions it was a bit too wavy for us old codgers. There are a number of supermarkets within 10 – 15 minutes’ walk of the apartment. But the nearest (a Lidl) is less than 5 minutes’ walk away. One of the main benefits of the location of the apartment is it is within easy reach of both the old town and the port area. We tended to have our evening meals there. Most of the restaurants we tried were really good but particular praise must go to La Tasca Robotica and Imperial (in the old town), Sofia’s (behind Lidl), Pepe y Estrella (on the main sea front road as you leave the port area and La Siesta (on the beach). Of them all, Sofia’s was the most wonderful, despite all of the tables being inside – 4” thick fillet steak cooked to perfection! During the day, for food and/or cocktails I’d recommend Jabadabada(Arenal) and La Siesta (free use of big comfy sofas and beds after 5pm. It was our first time staying in Javea but almost certainly not our last. And we would have no hesitation in returning to this most magnificent penthouse. Our 10 days passed far too quickly and we could have quite happily done double that!

Thank you very much for taking the time to write this review which will hopefully help prospective guests make a more informed choice about their holiday destination. We hope to welcome you back to Javea in the not too distant future.
