Location description from owner

The Andalucia region

Iznalloz is a typical Spanish village with approx 6500 inhabitants.attraction - .The local mountain range of Sierra Arana is particularly picturesque and boasts a large number of caves. Of these the deepest is La Cueva del Agua (Cave of water). There are prehistoric paintings and tools in the caves surrounding the village.
The village sits on the banks of the River Cubillas and what was once on an important Roman road to Tarraco (ancient Roman name for Tarragona) traversing via the south eastern coastline of the Iberian peninsula.
The people of Iznalloz attribute their origins to the Romans and call themselves Acatuccitanos, after Acatucci, the Roman name for the village. Roman imperial soldiers built a garrison, on the hill in what is now the old quarter of the village, and constructed a bridge over the river which remains in use. The origin of the modern name, Iznalloz, has its roots in the Arabic Hisn Allauz which means Castle of Almond trees. Only the ruins of the castle remain, but it formed part of the front line of Muslim defense during the latter days of the reconquest of Spain. The village fell into Christian hands in 1486, after which Iznalloz and its neighbouring villages aided in the siege of Granada. As payment for their services the people of Iznalloz were exempt from various taxes.
16th century church of Ntra. Sra. de los Remedios (16th century), designed by Diego de Silo and the ruins of an ancient Moorish castle.
Places of interest.
Roma Bridge over the Cubillas river
Castillo de los almendros, remains, including two towers, of a Moorish fortress
Cueva del agua, a group of Jurassic caves where numerous findings from the Stone Age have been found.

Agriculture is and has always been Iznalloz's major source of income and the cultivation of olives is by far the most common agricultural activity in the municipality. Some of the best olive oil in Spain is produced in this region.

Iznalloz

Situated in the lovely Andalucia region, only 20 minutes from Granada, the most visited city in Spain, this new development at Iznalloz offers an unequalled opportunity to sample all that Spain has to offer. Whether it be skiing in the snow covered Sierra Nevada or relaxing in the warmth of the tropical coast, not many places in the world can offer this diversity.

Ideally situated to explore Granada, Malaga, Seville, Cordoba, Marbella, Costa Tropical, Costa del Sol, or skiing in the Sierra Nevada. Iznalloz has its own bus and train service and restaurants, golf course and lakes are only 10 minutes from the site.

If you only have a short time to visit the area there are a number of attractions it would be unforgivable to miss. The city of Granada is host to the Alhambra, the second most visited tourist site in Europe and the exquisite collections of Islamic art in the museums and gardens of the Generalife. The Alhambra is often referred to as the eighth wonder of the world quite deservedly, with its mighty fortress and palace complex dating from the 14c.

You will need a whole day to explore the Alhambra and don’t forget to book tickets in advance

“A lovely welcoming home from home”

Reviewed 2 Jul 2016

I stayed here for 4 nights in June 2016 with my partner and young child, we would have loved to have stayed for longer. The house is spacious, bright and airy. It was very clean and well equipped and we immediately felt at home there. The views from the large roof terrace are beautiful and we had a very happy stay, exploring nearby Granada, the friendly town of Iznalloz which is five minutes walk away and enjoying the lovely swimming pool which includes a childrens paddling pool. It was very good value for money and I highly recommend a stay here.

So happy to hear you enjoyed your stay. Hope to see you in Iznalloz again soon. Best Wishes
