Description

The house is located in the historic bastide village of Issigeac, close to Bergerac in the south Dordogne. It comprises of a large living/dining room and a kitchen, door to the courtyard downstairs and three large bedrooms with bathrooms upstairs. Built in the seventeenth century, it is tucked into a quiet corner, in the heart of the village, close to the main square, and a short stroll to pavement cafes, shops, the chateau and the medieval church. It looks out over the beautiful stained glass windows of the Medieval church at the back, while at the front, it has French doors which open onto a charming, secluded, private courtyard. A quiet, peaceful, suntrap. The second floor loft studio apartment is quite stunning. Light, very spacious (65m2), with high ceilings, still supported by its original oak beams, it has four large windows which offer a lovely view over the village rooftops. At one end, there is a living area and an open plan kitchen. At the other, a bedroom that is very stylish

Light, very spacious (65m2), with high ceilings, still supported by its original oak beams, it has four large windows which offer a lovely view over the village rooftops. At one end, there is a living area and an open plan kitchen. At the other, a bedroom that is very stylish and comfortable, with an en suite bathroom that accommodates a large Italian shower. It is very well insulated, making it cosy and warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It has been recently renovated, with great attention to detail, so that it now offers all modern comforts while, architecturally, still retaining its old character, its medieval charm. Two further bedrooms are on the first floor. Very light and spacious, each with its owh bathroom. There is a large communal area on the ground floor, including a large living room, a fully equipped kitchen and a sunny, secluded courtyard.Issigeac is defined by its architecture but it's not a museum. It's a vibrant, busy village with an atractive sunday market which should not be missed on any account. There are five restaurants and three pavement cafes, art galleries and interesting shops. There are also two small supermarkets, a post office, 2 chemists, 3 boulangeries and a fine wine merchant. It somehow manages to be both a tourist attraction and a living village.Around, there is a string of beautiful old villages with ancient churches and other historic monuments. For lovers of French wine - the wine trail with extravagant chateaux and mansions, such as Chateau Monbazilliac. For nature lovers - beautiful countryside with sunflowers, wineyards, village markets, rivers and walks. Protected nature reserve - the impressive Bay of Arcachon on the Atlantic coast is only just over 2 hours drive away.
