The England region

Large studiostyle self catering cottage close to Portland Bill and Jurassic Coast pet friendly sleeps 2 with Wifi safe enclosed garden and offroad parking

Portland Hideaway is a modern, self contained, non-smoking apartment which, although described by Visit England as “studio style”, is very spacious, with seating and dining capacity for four plus and the big living area can be separated from the sleeping area by a portable screen to provide additional privacy. Visit England Quality in Tourism has rated the Portland Hideaway Four Star – Excellent Standard throughout and it has been carefully equipped to the comfort level you would expect to make it as relaxing and stress-free as possible

Relaxing in the Portland Hideaway couldn't be easier in the spacious lounge/bedroom area. Two cream, leather settees with reclining seats can seat up to five in comfort if you have friends around, or provide room to stretch out if it's just the two of you. The 32” flat screen Satellite television provides over 140 channels including movies, or you can choose from the library of DVDs, books and games that are provided. The patio area can be accessed directly from the lounge to take advantage of the pleasant evenings or sunny lunch time. Double-glazed windows on three sides ensure that the Hideaway has a light and airy feel and for those really hot, sultry days, a portable air-conditioning unit is provided for your added comfort. When the sun goes down the interior lighting from 2 wall-mounted spotlights and 3 lamps, provides a snug ambience that is complemented by a dedicated full-size gas central heating system that keeps it cosy on chilly evenings.

The Portland Hideaway is extremely well appointed as befitting its 4 Star rating. If you want to eat-in, you have the choice of using the full-size gas cooker with grill for conventional cooking, the slow cooker if you want something cooking while you are out, the microwave for quick cooking when you come in, or the barbeque in the patio area for al fresco dining.

Of course, for many being on holiday means not cooking at all and you are well served by places to eat out on your doorstep. There is the Cliff Restaurant some 250 metres away and L 'n' O's Bistro in Weston is an easy 800 metre walk. Then of course there are a number of pubs that serve food also within walking distance and a revitalising walk to Portland Bill on a Sunday morning will allow you to sample one of the two great carveries at the Pulpit Inn or the Lobster Pot Café looking across to the lighthouse and the Portland race. The view from the restaurant at the Heights Hotel, particularly at sunset, is unforgettable as is the fresh seafood at the Crab House Café at ferry Bridge.

One of the advantages of the Portland Hideaway is that everything is on the one level, which is great for those of us who aren't as agile as they would like. There is nothing worse than having to struggle in and out of a bath for a meagre trickle from an electric shower and this is where the Portland Hideaway's shower room is a winner. A new shower cubicle reveals a powerful shower that, together with the gas combination boiler that was designed to cater for all the heating and hot water needs of a 4 bedroom house, will bring you back to life in the morning, or sooth away effects of a long day of activity.

Bed linen is supplied free of charge and, if you are there for a longer stay, will be changed weekly and the apartment will be fully cleaned. Towels can be hired for a small extra charge.

Portland and Weymouth has the sunniest climate in the United Kingdom, with sunshine 32 % above the United Kingdom average, so you will probably want to spend as much time outside as you can. Portland is a walker's paradise, with coastal routes over every part of it and tons of history. There is every form of water sport on your doorstep: swimming, surfing, paragliding, waterskiing, windsurfing, diving, fishing, kayaking, as well as kiting and hang gliding. For the less strenuous, there are a wealth of lovely open air cafes and pubs and seafood is fantastic and fresh almost everywhere. The Portland Hideaway is a great base for wider exploration. A leisurely drive along the coastal road further West will take you through Abbotsbury, with its chocolate box look and famed Dorset Tea Shops serving Dorset Apple Cake. Lyme Regis, with its quaint streets and famous Cobb and chance to hunt for fossils along the cliff edges that offer awesome sea views, forests, rolling green valleys and meadows. East of Portland will take you to the perfect seaside village of Swanage, with its steam railway, passing through Bovington where Princes William and Harry learned to drive tanks. Just a little further west brings you to the famed Studland Bay, with the most expensive area in Britain at Sandbanks, before arriving at Bournemouth which has the best nightlife in the area.

Available all year round a week's stay at the Portland Hideaway costs as little as £239 low season and only £369 in the high season with short breaks of at least 3 nights from £147.
