“Quirky Little Find”

Reviewed 25 Aug 2016

We stayed at Bakers Dozen for a week whilst visiting family that live on Portland, so we know the area well. A brilliant quirky little find much bigger than you think. A real peaceful suntrap in the back garden, with amazing views. Definitely looking to arrange another visit next year.

“EXCELLENT”

Reviewed 6 Sep 2012

We stayed at 'Bakers Dozen' for a week in the summer holidays with our 2 children. We absolutely loved Weymouth and Portland and found this house to be in a very quiet area of Portland with Portland Bill Lighthouse at the end of the road (although it would be a long walk). I would recommend a car as walking anywhere would be hard. The actual house was lovely, a very old cottage with lots of character but has been modernised with decor etc. The loft room (double bedroom) was lovely and comfortable although the stairs are quite steep! The other bedroom on the 1st floor was also as lovely, the children slept very well in this room and was a good size. The bathroom has lovely views of the sea too. We found the downstairs of the house to be quite cold and damp though (although I'm sure this is due to the age of the property) but the owner did advise us to use the de-humidifier in the lounge room which did help a great deal. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything you could need including a washing machine. We did have a problem with the oven tripping the electric during our stay but we contacted the owner and she was with us within 10 minutes (she was lovely too) and she arranged for a new oven to be fitted within 48 hours, so didn't really cause us any problems. As for the area, we found a number of shops locally to get all your groceries etc (although you would need to drive) and the drive to Weymouth was direct and took appx 15 minutes. Weymouth itself was lovely, the beach was sandy and we were lucky enough to have good weather most days, so this is where we spent most of our time. I would recommend a trip to the Sealife centre, we loved it there and found a great place called Osmington Mills for Rock Pooling with a beautiful pub that does great food. We drove to Bournemouth one day as the air show was on during our stay which only took 1 hour and Poole was a little closer. A visit to Portland Bill Lighthouse is well worth it, although we didn't actually go up the lighthouse we spent a few hours there flying kites on the grass area and climbing the rocks round the lighthouse, you get great views on a clear day! Overall I would recommend this holiday rental either for a quite break or a family holiday - we didn't want to leave!! Were hoping to go back again next summer.
