“Location, location, location”

Reviewed 10 Apr 2017

Beautiful spot to stay. Car was useful to visit Portland Bill and the fascinating little villages around, but could easily just walk down to the sea instead or along the cliff paths which have amazing views. The studio is stylishly decorated and furnished with everything you need and is very peaceful, warm and calming. The little patio garden a joy both morning and evening for coffee or wine. Highly recommended.

“A lovely location”

Reviewed 1 Mar 2017

Just returned from a very pleasant eleven day stay at Church Ope Studio. The location is a comfortable base for exploring the historic Portland Island and places further afield. The welcome gift in the fridge was lovely. Thank you Sheila and Douglas, we will certainly be back.

“Just Perfect”

Reviewed 3 Jan 2017

We have just returned from a lovely week at Church Ope spending Christmas there has been perfect, a beautiful spot, quiet and very relaxing with lots of lovely walks for us and the dog (he loved it). The studio has everything needed spotlessly clean and very comfortable (i loved the bed)! Treats were awaiting such a lovely touch. The owners Sheila and Douglas are lovely and we were made to feel very welcome. We definitely will be back. Thank you just what we needed.

“Lovely homely place & great location”

Reviewed 20 Jun 2016

The studio has all the things you need for a short break, we took Ruby our West highland terrier and she loved it just as much as we did. The location is great and as you leave the studio to the left is the lane that leads to the coastal path and Ope cove beach which are both dog friendly. We walked the coastal path to Portland Bill where we found the Pull pit inn which is dog friendly and had a lovely Sunday carvery. We also went to the Crab house cafe where we tried the house specials 'Crab' where you get given a board a hammer and nut crackers to tuck into the very tasty crab. I was desperate for a haircut as my own hairdressers had recently left the salon and like most ladies i was a little dubious about going somewhere else. However i went to Elite in Chiswell Portland and Cassie was very very helpful and cut my hair beautifully and as i had been due a colour she recommend a toner to help until i found a hairdressers back home. So if you need your hair doing pop into see her as i high recommend her. Just along from the hairdressers up the hill is a little cafe that overlooks the sea and is at the start of chisel beach, we arrived just after 3pm when they had stopped serving lunch however they were very kind and made us sandwiches. Being gluten free i was really happy that they had some gluten free bread. We had a very enjoyable, relaxed week and i would recommend Church Ope Studio for anyone who wants to get away to a lovely friendly place.

“Wonderful place to stay, couldn't be better.”

The studio was everything I expected it to be from the website. Everything has been provided for your comfort. The hosts are very helpful but never intrusive. The coastal path is right outside your gate, you can see the sea from your armchair. Lots of historical interest in the area. The local people are very friendly, they like visitors. One thing to note, the "all round the island" bus doesn't start running until July, so it's a tidy walk up to the local bus stop, but saying that they run every seven minutes, even on Sundays. I'll definitely be going back again next year.

“A Hidden Treasure”

Reviewed 11 Nov 2012

We stayed at the studio for one week and found it to be a perfect base from which to explore the island. The location of the studio is perfect for the many walks that you can enjoy on Portland, and is just a short path away from the beautiful Church Ope Cove. The studio itself was very comfortable, cosy and spotlessly clean. It had everything we needed and was a lovely place to relax after our days out. We were also able to take our little dog with us, which was wonderful, and he was very comfortable there too. The owners are lovely and friendly, and it is nice to know that they are only next door if you need them. This place really is a hidden treasure and we hope to visit again soon.

“warm, comfortable and well equipped”

Reviewed 4 Nov 2012

you have done a great job with this small place enjoyed th ewifi and dvds. only negatives- found the cooker idfficult as no temperature numbers on the dials! Also shower a bit cold! otherwise very relaxing and cosy

Owner's reply: Thank-you for your review - A few October/ November guests have experienced end of season glitches this year we think! Plumber has been in this week to optimise the new boiler serving the shower. Electricians have moved sockets around to make best use of kitchenette. New fridge/freezer, microwave, kettle,TV.... do come again and enjoy the unique location in another season - lovely in Springtime. Sheila and Douglas

“VERY COMFORTABLE FOR SLEEPING BUT .........................”

Reviewed 15 Oct 2012

Probably the most comfortable bed we have slept in with an excellent wet room and in a peaceful and convenient location but the studio has some shortcomings:- - it isn't as big as the photos would indicate and the views are not to be seen from the studio or its 'garden' which is overshadowed by surrounding trees - the cooking facilities are very limited (nb no oven) and not very well laid out, in particular the shortage of electrical sockets meant you were constantly having plug in and unplug items - microscopic TV & small not very comfortable settee - the parking is very difficult to access and depart from even for our smallish car

Owner's reply: Thank-you for a detailed review. The new TV is now 26." The kitchenette has been redesigned and includes an oven as well as the microwave oven. The sea view is described on Church Ope Studio website as 'glimpsed through trees until leaf fall' The room dimensions are given too. The leather sofa is good quality and deep cushioned but it is a two seater so not that roomy. The bed as you say makes up for it! The Studio is designed as a comfy small retreat, with a large wet room to clean up after all those wild walks - It is right on the coast path.

“Cosy and comfortable studio in a great location”

Reviewed 23 Jun 2012

If you’re visiting Portland this is a wonderful place to stay. The bed was so comfortable we wanted to bring it home with us! The shower room was really modern and the log burner ensured we were toasty on cold evenings. It’s very close to the coastal path and local amenities. Would highly recommend!

“Cozy and very comfortable, nice location, friendly owner”

Reviewed 10 May 2012

We really enjoyed our stay in Church Ope Studio. The owners are very friendly and helpful yet not intrusive. The accommodation is cozy yet not too small, nice furnishings, comfortable and warm. Ideal location for coastal walks. Off the main road so had a countryside feel but walking distance to local shops and eateries. Short drive to mainland. Would love to go back one day, we have recommended this accommodation to family.
