Description from owner

Description

Stronacroibh is a cosy farmhouse on the Isle of Lismore, in a spectacular setting with beautiful views across Loch Linnhe to North Lorn in the East and Islay and Jura in the South. The farmhouse (really a cottage) nestles at the junction of two single track roads and lies 100m from the sea, which is accessed through a farm gate on the other side of the road.

Lismore is a fertile limestone island (Lis Mor means large garden) lying in Loch Linnhe between Oban and Port Appin, which is served by two ferries – a car ferry from Oban at the south end of the island and a passenger ferry from Port Appin at the north end.

The cottage has two bedrooms, one small double and a large family room with a double and a single bed plus a pull-out guest bed - the cottage will sleep 5-6 people comfortably. Both the living room and large bedroom are double aspect and are very light and airy; all rooms have fantastic views and are comfortable with clean and modern furniture. The living room

The living room is comfortably but minimally furnished with a large leather chaise longue corner sofa, coffee table and smart TV / TV stand – ideal for putting your feet up and watching TV or admiring the views – or doing both at the same time! WIFI is provided.

The well- appointed kitchen has a wooden farmhouse table, chairs and stools. There is an oil fuelled Stanley range for both cooking and heating, although water can be heated by an immersion heater when the central heating is switched off. Washing machine, dish washer, fridge freezer, George Forman grill, toasted sandwich maker, electric toaster, kettle and microwave. Iron and ironing board also provided. As with the living room, the kitchen has fantastic views of the sea, so you can sit and watch the wildlife as you eat your breakfast. The bathroom has a bath with over-bath electric shower.

There is a large enclosed front garden with mature shrubs on the seaward side and a large stone built shed at the junction boundary, as well as a small enclosed garden to the rear. Both gardens have lawns, which are ideal for children playing or simply sunbathing as well as family barbecues - garden furniture and barbecue are provided. Why not relax with a glass of wine and watch boats going by, seals in the water or otters on the shore. There is a huge array of wildlife on the doorstep, including swallows nesting in the barn, sea eagles flying overhead and snipe and woodcock in the wetland nearby. Plants such as orchids, ragged robin and flag iris grow all around.

Lismore has a well - stocked shop open six days a week and a café and heritage centre open all summer and for much of the spring and autumn. The shop on the mainland in Port Appin opens on Sunday morning and can be reached via the short (7 minute) sea crossing on the passenger ferry followed by a five minute walk from the ferry slip to the shop. Port Appin boasts two Hotels with excellent restaurants – why not hop on the ferry to Port Appin for lunch or evening meal and walk your meal off with a stroll home – only a mile from the passenger ferry. Have the best of both worlds and leave your car in Port Appin for part of your stay (there is safe parking), which will give you freedom to visit places of interest on the mainland – Oban, Fort William, Lochawe and Ardnamurchan are all within easy reach.
