“not to be missed”

Reviewed 26 May 2015

Lovely cottage, arrived on a very cold day into very warm comfortable accommodation, endless supply of logs was a big bonus, faultless, everything just as described. lovely views- wonderful scenery- excellent walks and Lock Ness on the doorstep.

“Absolutely ideally situated and welcoming and comfortable.”

The cottage is really lovely and we loved having an open fire every evening. It suited all of our needs and was very comfortable and cosy. It is ideally situated in a fantastic location, with awesome views overlooking Lochness, and nice walks from the cottage. The conservatory is perfect for watching the sun come up and go down every day; the scenery is simply stunning. The weather was also ideal, predictably changeable every day; we were all in our element. We highly recommend this place and will be going again next year. The property is as advertised, and more.

“Stunning views of Loch Ness in great comfort...”

We have just returned from a wonderful week at Mor Carraig overlooking Loch Ness. The views are truly stunning, and we enjoyed spending time in the large comfortable conservatory admiring the breath taking views. Whatever the weather it is beautiful. If slightly warmer, the garden also is a great place to relax. The house is beautifully decorated and with great comforts throughout. The window seat on the first floor landing, again with lovely views, is a great place to relax. The house is so welcoming it is difficult to leave; but it is also a great place to explore for exploring the Loch Ness and Caledonian Canal region. Also directly from the house it is possible to do some excellent walks in either direction along the Great Glen Way. There is also very good Mountain Biking directly from the house. We heartily reccommend this house and this part of Scotland. Thank you for a wonderful introduction to the Scottish Highlands.

“Fantastic!”

I stayed in Mor Carraig along with 3 other adults for 4 nights. Renting this cottage was like having your cake & eating it. Even after reading the other positive reviews, I was still pleasantly surprised. It is more than the fact that the house is well maintained, well equipped & clean. It is also interesting, comfortable, full of character & just has a lovely feel to it! The cherry of the cake was the wonderful views from both inside & outside the cottage. We used Mor Carraig as a base for exploring the area & found it well placed for this. Both sides of the Loch were easily accessible as was Inverness itself. Although we have rented properties throughout the UK, this was our first visit to this area & when it came time for leaving, we were very reluctant to go. It almost goes without saying that we hope to return to both the area (so much more to see & do) and to Mor Carraig itself.

“"Mor Carraig" - welcoming and comfortable, fantastic views”

Reviewed 26 Oct 2013

We stayed at "Mor Carraig" for a long weekend. The house is very spacious and we were really surprised at all the available amenities. The view of Loch Ness is fabulous. We were surprised to find that as well as Freeview you also have Freesat with recording facilities so we were able to watch something which was on TV while we were out. The conservatory is very light and the views tremendous. The view of the sky at night is incredible. It is so hard to see the milky way with light pollution at home but it was really clear! The drive up from the main road alongside Loch Ness is very steep and takes some getting used to. I would recommend anyone staying here to follow the route virtually via Google Street View. I did this and avoided a long detour indicated by my GPS because I recognised the junction where you need to turn. Overall we really appreciated staying at the house, felt very welcomed and comfortable!

“Never wanted to leave”

My husband and I had a clear expectation of what we wanted from our trip to Scotland and spent some time trawling through cottages and hotels online planning our 17 day tour to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We searched through what seemed like hundreds of self catering properties looking for that special place that ticked all the boxes. Mor Carraig was one of the first to appear on the search results and we were instantly blown away. We respectfully looked at many other properties and even shortlisted a few but we knew we had found our winner. We wanted a period property with mod cons but still be full of character. A log fire was the one thing that we would not compromise on and Mor Carraig did not let us down. The pictures online are but a glimpse of the charm and warmth you can expect. We fell in love with the place from the moment we arrived at the driveway gate. If you want modern living and clean cut lines then look elsewhere. But if you are looking for a place that's rustic, embraces its location, its heritage and begs you to forget about the rest of the world for just a little while then look no further. We will say all the usual like the beds were comfy, we had everything we needed in the kitchen, the property was clean and tidy as that too is important as an expectation, and all get a big bold tick. Communication with Paul the owner was excellent and support was on hand nearby if required. Basically nothing disappointed us regarding amenities and maintenance. The views are fantastic especially over Loch Ness and although you are in a remote rural location its easy enough to pick up supplies in Drumnadrochit which even has a small Co-op (We did our main shop at Morrisons in Inverness on the way to the cottage). What is hard to see from the photos and hard to express in writing is the sheer hold this place had on us. My husband summed it up one night sitting by the fire with a glass of wine, looking around at the decor. "This place just works". It’s a great base to tour the Highlands from and of course Loch Ness. We had some great days out but always looked forward to coming home to the cottage. We are already planning our next stay but still feeling the pain of having to tear ourselves away.

“Tranquil...”

A truly stunning setting for people travelling in large groups who want to get away to somewhere quiet. Landscaped beautifully with views to Loch Ness and the surrounding land, Mor Carraig was the perfect setting for our holiday. The house is deceptively large with everything you would want for a holiday to the North of Scotland, a large conservatory with a great view, massive kitchen, beautiful garden, a bit of history and our favourite, the log fire in the lounge/library. We were made to feel like we were home from the moment we arrived, and we will definitely be coming back!

“Perfect”

We have been holidaying at Mor Carraig for many years , it is without doubt the best of all of the many locations we have holidayed in, it offers fabulous views, a super conservatory to sit in if the weather is too bad to step outside, it is well equipped , homely ,welcoming and is a real gem , if you want peace and quiet, and still be close enough to civilisation then look no further.
