From the owner

On the edge of the North York Moors, in the National Park, BARMOORS lies half a mile north of the picturesque village of Hutton-le-Hole, between the market towns of Helmsley and Pickering. Walking and bicycling straight from the front door in every direction – The Cleveland Way and The Coast to Coast Path cross 6 miles to the north at Blakey Ridge. Farndale, famous for it's daffodils, Bransdale (National Trust) and Rosedale Abbey are all within a stones throw or a 5 minute drive.
BARMOORS was built in 1783 as a shooting lodge and retains many of its 18th Century features with wonderful views that have not changed in more than 200 years. We have two guest rooms. One double and one twin each with its own bathroom, a few steps away. Traditional English Breakfast, in the pretty dining room with an open fire. Home made bread, marmalade and jams, local bacon, sausages and eggs, home grown tomatoes and soft fruit when in season.
Well behaved dogs are welcome. We have two terriers, Dart and Musket, 3 geese and a flock of sheep with lambs (Spring 2015). The garden is a symphony of bird song. On the moor the curlew whistle and wheel with the sky larks and lapwing. We are surrounded by heather in August, and in the spring the moor is alive with small animals, including many ground nesting birds; grouse among them – dogs on leads please or the keeper will be after you (or, more likely, me!).

There are several pubs nearby. All serve food. The Crown in Hutton-le-Hole (10 minutes over the fields/half a mile), The Blacksmith's Arms at Lastingham (3 miles), The something or other at Gillamoor (2 miles) The Moors Inn at Appleton-le-Moors (4 miles), The Lion Inn at Blakey (6 miles) The Feversham Arms, Farndale, (6 miles), The White Horse and The Coach Inn, Rosedale, (4 miles) The Pheasant, Harome, (5 miles) The Star, (Michelin star) Harome (5 miles), The Hare at Scawton (14 miles) and The Black Swan at Oldstead (15 miles), another Michelin star.
THINGS TO DO There is no shortage and you can walk or cycle to many of them straight from the front door
Architecture : Lastingham Church, Rievaulx Abbey, Castle Howard are the most obvious. Among the less well known but worth a visit are St. Mary's Church, Appleton-le-Moors, the frescoes in the Parish Church at Pickering and the castles at Helmsley and Pickering. We are not far from the Sykes Church Trail either. More than 20 village churches restored between 1880 and 1914 using the best architects and craftsmen of the day. If you love the Arts and Crafts movment this is a real WOW!

We stayed 3 nights and felt very welcomed by Alice. The bed was comfortable and breakfast of a high standard with home made jams and locally resourced produce. Would love to return some day.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

If Alice (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
