The cottage was a tumble-down Silver Smith's workshop and stable dating from the early 1800s. It has just had a total renovation and is now the ideal location for a peaceful retreat. It is situated at the end of a private lane that leads into open countryside between the hamlet of Hunton and Yalding village. It is silent at night with only the odd tractor during the warm summer days. Yet the village of Yalding has excellent pubs, a Thai restaurant, a cafe (for great coffee), monthly Farmers' Market, the excellent Yalding Organic Gardens, a village shop, post office, access to the river Medway (canoeing etc) and many historic buildings and features.
On entering the front door there is a cloakroom to the right with a large walk-in shower. The next room is a twin bedroom with plenty of built-in storage. Most of the ground floor is taken up by the kitchen / diner and sitting room. The kitchen is large and has a dishwasher, washing machine and fridge. The dining table seats six and there are two sofas, a TV, stereo and a fabulous wood-burning stove. Under-floor heating is fitted throughout the ground floor. The main bedroom is upstairs and has a generous en-suite bathroom with roll-top bath.
The cottage has its own private garden and terrace, use of the adjoining field, private parking, use of the owners' tennis court and large barbecue.
The cottage would suit a family looking for a quiet, rural, summer holiday or those looking for a cosy winter break, snuggled inside with the wood-burning stove. The building has been insulated with modern products and holds the heat in winter and is cool in the summer.

The Kent region
The local area has two main towns; Maidstone, the County town of Kent, and Tunbridge Wells with its picturesque Pantiles quarter. Both towns are a fifteen minute drive from the property. The southeast of England is typically hot and dry in the summer months and cold in the winter. It receives less rainfall throughout the year than the western part of the British Isles. The train station to London Charing Cross is fifteen minutes' drive away at Paddock Wood and the train journey is 40 minutes. Traffic permitting it is possible to drive to the cottage from central London in one to one and a half hours.
There are several good local pubs and restaurants in the area and there are an array of varied, local footpaths from the cottage. The Hop Farm is ten minutes away and this has several good events throughout the year, including the summer Rock festival and the War and Peace show. Leeds Castle is twenty minutes drive away and is an idyllic spot around which to roam. Henry VIII built Leeds Castle to impress his various women folk and it seemed to work. Hever Castle is also close, childhood home of Anne Boleyn, and the great city of Canterbury is an easy hour's drive. Don't forget the chic coastal town of Whitstable which is 45 minutes away and is definitely worth a trip. The 'Sportsman' restaurant is just down the beach from Whitstable and has one Michelin star; best lunch I have had in years. The fish market is also a gem and the locally farmed oysters are dreamy.
Yalding - a quinessential, pretty, Kent village - is a leisurely 20 minute walk on the footpath across the fields. It has a monthly Farmers Market, extensive Organic Gardens with cafe, several pubs, a village cafe, a village shop (including fresh bread and newspapers), a library, post office and a successful Thai restaurant.
Bedgebury Pinetum has huge local appeal and is 20 minutes away. It has miles of bike trails through the forrest, from childrens' easy standard to technical mountain bike tracks. It has a large, comfortabe cafe akin to an alpine lodge and it has several good concerts in the summer.
THE OLYMPIC STADIUM IS ONLY 45 MINUTES DOOR TO DOOR VIA TRAIN (10 mins) AND CAR (30 mins)

"Perfectly placed to explore the Weald of Kent"
We really liked the Silversmith's Cottage. It's light, comfortable and well-equipped. The big bed upstairs was very comfortable, and the shower downstairs was excellent, although there is a lovely bathroom attached to the bedroom. Be aware that the second, two single beds, bedroom is downstairs. We were lucky enough to have good weather while we were there, and it was lovely to be able to sit out at the back of the cottage in peace and quiet, and have an evening drink. The chickens occasionally came to say hallo, and we could watch the rabbits and birds across the fields. The cottage is well-placed to visit the many National Trust properties in the area; a trip to Whitstable and the sea was an easy journey. We also walked across the fields to the next village of Yalding, a lovely walk of about 25 minutes, where there's a shop, a post office, and some good pubs. We had a good meal at the Walnut Tree. Maidstone is not the prettiest of towns, but has excellent shopping facilities. All in all, we had a great time. The Goddards were very welcoming and helpful, so we hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

"Modern & comfortable hideaway in the heart of Kent"
This little cottage was everything we could have wished for: with en suite facilities upstairs hubby and I were very comfortable (great bath!) and the downstairs room was ideal for my 90-year old Mum. Well equipped kitchen and cosy lounge. Nice quiet location with green outlook but was ideally located for visiting Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells as well as Rochester and Chatham for those interested in Dickens.

"Everything was perfection"
Newly and beautifully renovated, this cozy, clean and comfy cottage was a pure delight. We had a rental car, which is fairly important, although the public walking path (literally outside the door) makes an easy 20 minute walk to the village of Yalding. With car, groceries, etc a 15 minute drive. We visited Dover, Canterbury, Deal (world's best Fish & Chips!) strolled locally along the River Medway (nice playground there) and visited nearby friends, and made some new ones. The fresh eggs from the adjacent owner's house were a real plus as well. A small playground very close by on walking path (15 minute walk with little toddler legs), Picturesque at every turn, quiet and welcoming. Kids enjoyed castle visits, Canterbury tales exhibit and Roman Village (both in Canterbury) Mom & Dad enjoyed evensong in Canterbury cathedral. Dover castle was fascinating as well. Can't say enough!

This was our second stay in august. This one was a really last call cottage. I booked it on our holliday in England. Very modern an everything you need was in the cottage. Especially the environment was beautiful.
