The Cottage has recently been beautifully renovated and adjoins an historic 15th century courtyard surrounded by organic grassland, it is set in undulating open countryside with stunning views. Exceptionally quiet location with medieval terraced lakes (fishing available) yet only 5 mins drive from the historic market town of Bury St Edmunds. The property has 2 bedrooms upstairs along with a large bathroom with bath and separate power shower. Downstairs is a fully fitted kitchen, a large sitting room with a woodburner, a cloakroom and a further sitting room/3rd bedroom. Outside a terraced area for alfresco dining and a lawn. Further details indoors

We have tried to make the accommodation as flexible as possible whilst not compromising the taste with which we have decorated and furnished. The bathroom upstairs has been finished to a very high standard as has the kitchen. The wood burner in the sitting room adds wonderful atmosphere although the central heating will keep the place warm and cosy on its own. There is plenty of parking area and a private garden.

“location, location, location”

Reviewed 10 Oct 2015

In itself the location is 5-star. Absolute peace and quiet. Okay, some noise during the day, but not really disturbing. No traffic, a few buildings huddled together on a hill amidst undulating farmland, offering great views. Starry nights (weather permitting of course), And from this pastoral picture you are in buslting Bury St. Edmunds in just a few minutes. Area is great for cycling and visiting all those gorgeous ancient churches. Bury can be reached by bike via quiet country lane. Cottage is great too: soak your tired limbs in the bath, comfy beds, well equipped kicthen, cosy lounge with wood burner. The owner, Rupert, very friendly and accommodating. Far too much praise already, since we would love to keep this place a secret.

“Wonderful cottage in truly beautiful surroundings.”

Reviewed 21 Apr 2013

I stayed at Forge cottage for just over two weeks with my husband and baby. We live in Hong Kong and wanted a complete break from city life whilst in the UK introducing our baby to our family! The cottage was everything we wanted, well equipped and cosy, very close to Bury st Edmunds whilst also being in very rural countryside. We had relatives staying with us for a few days and the cottage has a very comfortable second bedroom and a sofa bed downstairs and thwas more than adequate for 6 of us (and a baby) during this time and yet did not feel too big when it was just the 3 of us. Perfect, we will be back!

“You need a place to relax? Forge cottage is the place to be.”

We found this cottage on the internet and decided very quickly to rent it for twelve days. It proved to be a first class choice, value for money. The information on the website is 100% correct. It was easy to contact the owner and he provided us with the information needed to get to the cottage. The cottage is very well equipped. We were only with three but there is certainly enough room for six persons. The bedrooms are very good with comfortable beds. The kitchen is very nice. Well equipped for those who like to cook. TV is provided, WiFi is available. (Do you want WiFi on holidays?) The cottage is located in a very, very quiet area in beautifull surounding. Beautifull dark nights, no street lights, with stars only and complete silence. Bury St. Edmunds is very near. Nice place for shopping and visiting. Even some good restaurants too. We visited many places like Cambridge, Ely, Newmarket, Blakeney Point,Ickworth House, Wimpole Estate ,Melford Hall,Oxburgh Hall, Lavenham, Anglesey Abbey, Duxfort IWM.... It was the first time we visited East Anglia. It's a beautifull countryside with many interesting places to visit. We had very nice weather and it was a fantastic holiday which was only too short...

“Beautiful cottage”

Reviewed 16 Jul 2012

We stayed at the Forge Cottage for a long weekend whilst at a friends wedding and it was absolutely perfect for the small group of us, far better than a hotel. The cottage is in a lovely country location and is beautifully decorated and fully equipped. It is located within a short drive to local shops and pubs. The owners were very helpful in making my reservation and during our stay....they even brought us freshly laid eggs from the farm which were delicious! I highly recommend this cottage.

“A beautiful, tranquil and comfortable place to stay.”

Reviewed 28 May 2012

This was my second time staying at The Forge and I plan on going back. My brother lives in Bury St Edmunds, so my Mother and I needed a place to stay and visit. It is a beautiful cottage, well equipped, very clean and comfortable. The farmlands are lovely and you feel well away from any hustle and bustle. Bury is only 10 minutes away and the cottage is a great place as a base to explore the area.

“Happy Family”

Reviewed 9 May 2012

We have enjoyed our stay in this very well equipped cottage. The cottage is located in a very nice area with a lot of things to do in the surroundings: nice walks in the area, visiting Cambridge and Lavenham or spending a day on the beach. Bury st Edmunds is very close buy and is a good place for shopping or having .dinner. It was a vacation that made the whole family happy. Thanks Laurens.

“Tranquil, farm based wonderful cottage stay”

Reviewed 8 May 2012

The house is perfectly situated for peace and quiet with some nice walks through the surrounding countryside. Also being only 5 minutes drive from Bury St Edmunds there is also plenty to see and do (and eat!). Very much enjoyed our stay.

“Have a Lovely Time”

Reviewed 8 May 2012

It was a lovely place to stay, with beautiful views over quiet surroundings. We just had a lovely time and enjoyed the fishing and walking in the adjacent area.
