Location description from owner

The East Anglia region

Norfolk is renowned for its tranquillity, attracting birdwatchers and those seeking solitude. The Norfolk Broads are an expansive area of navigable waterways, lakes, marshes and nature reserves. Some of the villages in Suffolk have changed little since the area was a medieval trade centre, adding to the picture book feel to the landscape.

Horning

The riverside village of Horning offers restaurants, pubs and tearooms, a delicatessen, post office, gift shops, butchers shop, Chinese takeaway and newsagent/general store to name but a few. There is a heated, indoor, swimming pool within walking distance and Bewilderwood the Treehouse Adventure Park is just up the road. The village green is a lovely spot to sit with an ice cream and watch the boats go by and the 3 pubs all have lovely riverside gardens in which to relax and have a drink and a meal.

Horning is on the River Bure and just 10 miles away from the City of Norwich (shop 'til you drop or visit the Castle and Cathedral) 2 miles from Wroxham (Roys department store, you can't miss it) and 15 miles from Great Yarmouth (sandy beaches, slot machines, the Pleasure Beach and lots more) and if you like walking or cycling there are some lovely trails.

“Perfect perfect perfect”

Reviewed 30 Jun 2016

When I read previous reviews saying how lovely Coot Cottage and Jane were I decided to reserve judgement until I had been. Well I'm just back from a week there, the Cottage is beautiful, The pics do it no justice at all. Everything that you need for a chilled out week was there, as other people have said a home from home. It's lovely and peaceful. Harry the Heron, yes the one people spoke about made his visits along with a multitude of other wild fowl. My favourite the Swan who brought her 5 babies along for breakfast. Jane is absolutely lovely too

Thank you for your lovely review, it makes it all worthwhile to know our guests so enjoy the peace and tranquility that Coot Cottage has to offer. You are very welcome to come back anytime, I look forward to seeing you again sometime.

“A very relaxing holiday.”

Reviewed 8 Jul 2013

We really enjoyed our week at Coote Cottage. Myself, Husband and Sister along with her husband, enjoyed a most relaxing week. The facilities are first class, everything you need for self catering. The bungalow is modern and being just off the main river, nice and quiet. We fished the main river from a private piece of land belonging to the owners and caught quite a few fish including several large pike. Its a great base for touring Norfolk and just a short walk into Horning itself. Added bonus is 3 car parking spaces.Highly Recommended!!!

Thank you so much for your positive review. We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay and would love to have you back again.

“So much wildlife, so little food!!!”

Reviewed 22 May 2013

Coot cottage was an ideal base for our holiday. It was well equipped and extremely clean and tidy. It had everything you could wish for and things you wouldnt think of having! It mainly had solitude and fantastic scenery, which changed every time a boat went by. The sailboats were amazing. The wildlife was unbelievable. Being from a cityish type environment, I got to see different species of ducks etc. Those you only ever hear or read about. Harry the heron. Tony and Cleo, the Egyptian geese (sometimes renamed as Onefoot and Christmas dinner) Mr & Mrs Mallard and The Mallard boys, to name but a few. I managed to hand feed several visitors. My elderly aunt was with us and having a bungalow was ideal. We spent quite a lot of time in the conservatory. Just having a major relax. Watching and feeding our feathered friends. It was just the break we needed. Many thanks. For future reference, stock up on sardines for Harry and bread/duck food to the others.

We are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay in Coot Cottage and enjoyed the peace and quiet and the wildlife that comes to visit. Thank you very much for your kind review and we hope to see you again.

“Superior Accommodation in lovely surroundings”

Reviewed 26 Apr 2013

Our third visit in 4 years ( missed one did not 'book' early , lesson learnt) another excellent week at Coot Cottage. Nice and relaxed in comfortable and warm cottage with a beautiful outlook with wild life visitors ( do not forget tins of sardines for the Herons)

It is a pleasure to have you in Coot Cottage. Oh, and the heron is still calling by each day looking for you! Thank you for your lovely review.

“Excellent in all respects, the perfect base for a Broadlands holiday”

Reviewed 12 Mar 2013

Coot cottage was immaculate, spotless and well equipped. As a base for our winter break it was perfect. Central to all the Broadland places we wanted to visit, with more than enough local amentities if we didn't want to use the car. We "tested" several local hosteleries, within walking distance and they all passed with flying colours. Our hosts were very helpful and made us very welcome. The main river fishing was a bit hard going but the private area at the rear of the cottage was full of roach and great fun. My daughters day was made when she got to feed a Heron in the garden, plus we watched Kingfishers, Geese, and various other birds of the Broads close up. A lovely venue, highly recommended.

Thank you very much for your kind review of Coot Cottage. We are so pleased you had a lovely stay and that your daughter got to feed the Heron in the garden and enjoyed seeing the other wildlife.

“Perfect little gem”

Reviewed 20 Jun 2012

A really lovely place to stay and the owner Jane is so lovely too. It really is a home from home and so comfortable and relaxing. We are already planning our 3rd & 4th visit! It is well furnished, well maintained and spotlessly clean and all done with care and attention.. It is very peaceful and private and the wildlife is great to watch - we even got quite a few glimpses of the kingfisher.

Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are really pleased you enjoy your stay in Coot Cottage and look forward to seeing you again.

“Never want to leave”

Reviewed 8 May 2012

We have been back to this lovely cottage several times because of its lovely outlook onto the broads and for the wildlife.  We often hire a boat and moor it in the garden.  The garden is very private.  The cottage itself is beautifully presented with really comfy beds.  Will be back again in August .

We always look forward to your visits to Coot Cottage. Thank you for your kind words. See you soon.

Conservatory for when the weather is inclement Suited our party this our second stay in three years ( missed one year late trying already reserved for others) Will reserve now for 2013 Well Worthy of Recommendation

Thank you for your kind words. We look forward to seeing you again next year in Coot cottage.

“heavenly holiday cottage, beautifully presented, perfectly placed in horning”

Reviewed 5 Apr 2012

Coot cottage is perfectly placed in the village of horning to guarantee all visitors a heavenly holiday, peaceful nights with just the sound of the owls to send you to sleep what bliss. The cottage has many vistors during the day, ducks, geese, coots and not forgetting the Heron, and during the fishing season the garden offers a really good deck area to set up your rods and have some fun, but of cause relaxing on a sunny day in the garden is simply perfect, watching in privacy the Bure River busy with boats is very entertaining. Book this cottage, but be prepared to have your heart stolen. as you will simply not want to leave.

Thank you for your kind feedback, you were a pleasure to have as guests in Coot cottage and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
