Description

Coco House is a beautiful house in a great location, it's on the exclusive Sugar Hill Estate, a private 60 acre estate with great views, beautiful swimming pools, flood lit tennis courts, yoga, gym, a really helpful club reception and a great house manager who ensures your stay at the house runs smoothy. We love Coco house – it’s a great space for entertaining or just chilling out.

There are two large bedrooms (with en suite marble bathrooms - a shower and bath in the main bathroom, a walk in marble floored shower ensuite to the second bedroom) with French doors that both lead onto the terrace, the plunge pool and private garden with mango and lime trees, and a great sized cottage in the garden that has a double bed, marble bathroom (with shower) and kitchenette (fridge, kettle).

The house can be rented with or without the cottage. Liinen is European and the furniture is a mix of Asian, dark wood and white furnishings.

The house can be rented with or without the cottage. Liinen is European and the furniture is a mix of Asian, dark wood and white furnishings.

Architecturally, it’s a lovely house. The high vaulted ceilings, plantation shutters and use of local coral stone and marble make it aesthetically a real pleasure to be in and to look at.

The wide balcony juts out and looks out over a 180 degree view of the Caribbean Sea and sky – and because you’re up, not directly on the beach, you really get an incredible panoramic view of the ocean and stunning sunsets. We're really fortunate having this uninterrupted view, as often houses in Barbados are built in front of other houses to take their view! There's also a balmy breeze that keeps mosquitoes at bay and is welcome on hot, humid days.

The beach plus watersports is a two minute drive down the hill, or if you feel more energetic a fifteen minute walk. I'd almost go as far to say it's a must to rent a car in Barbados as the pubic transport system isn't as direct as it could be and there are a huge variety of things to do and see all over the island. There is never a problem parking, it's all very relaxed.

Being on the Sugar Hill Estate means you have all the advantages of a hotel, without actually being in one. Sugar Hill is private estate which only really gets press when one of its higher profile owners is in town, apart from that it doesn’t self promote and it’s a very laid back place, with wonderful land and gardens. The gardeners will happily cut down some coconuts for you if our coconuts are ripe and security staff and gatemen mean if you have children, will really feel at ease letting them wander off to their tennis or swimming lessons by themselves. The staff are incredibly friendly – the ladies at reception at the club house will happily help arrange a babysitter or taxis and can point you in the right direction for golf, turtle watching boat trips, riding, surfing, sailing lessons or zip wiring over the tree tops.

There are two gorgeous pools - one is the waterfall pool, the other is the clubhouse pool, an infinity pool, both a two minute walk from the house. Next to the Club house pool is the newly renovated club restaurant open for lunch and supper,

There are four floodlit championship tennis courts in the grounds, a fully equipped gym and yoga and pilates classes at the clubhouse.

Sugar Hill is close to the hustle of Holetown (5 mins drive) and the boho chic of Speightstown (10 mins drive). Holetown, apart from all the normal amenities you need, has the celeb hangout Second Street where you can party the night away and the fab Limegrove cinema and lifestyle mall for glitzy, duty-free shopping, cafes, v good restaurants and the cool Lime cocktail bar which is buzzing on a Friday night. Fish markets are close by at Paynes Bay and Speightstown.

Sports wise, the grande dame, The Sandy Lane is a five to ten minute drive away. The golf course is one of the best (Sugar Hill can arrange for you to play there, Westmoreland or Apes Hill where there is an golfing dues arrangement with Sugar Hill ). The polo fields are also close by where you can have lessons.

Sailing, scuba diving, zip wiring and riding are all close by.

If you feel like visiting the other coasts, it’s a easy trip to the wilder, Atlantic side (you go over the highlands from Sugar Hill), it takes about fourty minutes to the surfer’s paradise of Bathseba. Boogie boarding at The Crane is again, down the Highway, about 40 mins away. FYI all beaches are public in Barbados.

Our house manager can arrange groceries for you before your arrival and offer advice on car rental, airport transfers etc and will oversee the house running smoothly for you. Housekeeping comes in once per week.

Location description from owner

The Barbados region

Sugar Hill is a private estate, set within fifty acres of gardens. We love it here as it's easy to get down to the beach/ go to Hometown/ visit other coasts as Sugar Hill is in a central position of the island. We have rented on the beach, but we prefer it here as the breeze is great on hot days, the mosquitoes don't like it so much and the view is pretty special.

While the crime rate is relatively low in Barbados, the 24/7 security is reassuring, so our children wander up to the tennis courts etc without us worrying and the club house where the concierge book restaurants, trips etc is really useful. Sugar Hill's restaurant is great if you don't feel like going out, but equally don't feel like cooking.
