Northern Ireland region

The towns and villages of Mourne country are exciting destinations in their own right, also good bases for discovering the magic of the mountains. Popular resort Newcastle, where Slieve Donard really does 'sweep down to the sea' offers family fun, plus the bonus of mountains and championship golf (Royal County Down) on your doorstep.

Nearby Bryansford and Tollymore are centres for outdoor adventure - from the sublime to the extreme. There is pony-trekking, bouldering, canoeing, abseiling, hillwalking and even Ireland's only mountainboarding facility! Both Tollymore and Castlewellan have outstanding forest parks. Silent Valley, inland from restored harbour hamlet, Annalong, is another gem. Big plans are afoot for the Mourne area - soon to be designated a National Park.
Round the rocky coast, past busy fishing port Kilkeel, to Victorian Rostrevor. Its park begins as manicured lawns, but as you climb it becomes an arboretum, river walk and finally a mountain trail offering views across Carlingford Lough. Blue Flag Cranfield Beach is also nearby.

Hillsborough

The local village of Hillsborough is a small historic village boasting its own lake, courthouse and castle. With an abundance of quality eateries and coffee houses, it is also home to the annual Oyster Festival, Garden Show Ireland and Sunflowerfest Music Festival.

“Wonderful stay in this high spec. eco-friendly accommodation.”

Reviewed 2 Jan 2013

For Christmas 2012 my husband and I stayed for a week in "Croob View" , using the cottage as a base from which to visit family and friends. Glenn was there to meet us when we arrived, and he had thoughtfully lit the wood-burning stove to add to the cosy ambiance. There was also a plate of delicious home made biscuits, a bottle of Bucks Fizz and some further basic provisions which were all very much appreciated. The semi-detached house is newly built to a very high specification, and has additional green credentials such as a heat exchange system, rain water harvesting and solar panels to heat the water (with a back up immersion heater if necessary). The house is very comfortable indeed, with all appliances and furniture being of a high standard, and the ground floor has been thoughtfully laid out in such a way as to be easily accessible by guests for whom mobility is limited. There are lovely views over the surrounding countryside from all the windows. Children too are catered for with a separate games room, (for the use of the guests of both rental properties) with table-tennis, mini pool table, and mini table football. A nearby sunken trampoline also looked very tempting! We thoroughly enjoyed our week in this cottage and would recommend it unreservedly.

Glad you enjoyed your stay. Thanks for taking time to review.
